The Official NHL Suspension Thread
Bring Back The Bruise Bros replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
The suspensions he has handed out so far were for the hits we're looking to get rid of. I haven't had a problem with any of the suspensions, yet. A little harsh? Yeah, but he's trying to make a statement. If Neil is suspended for this, wow.. -

When Neil hit him, Grabovski was facing him. No blindside or hit from behind. I think a minor for interference is enough. -

No way he gets suspended. Its a s***show at HFBoards right now. More than 20 pages on the Neil "blindside hit to the head". -

I don't mind seeing guys suspended for hits like the one Shelley threw. What i'm scared of is the overreaction of every single hard hit. I don't want the good, hard-hitting physicality of the game eliminated. I do want the hits from behind, especially, gone. I agree with you on the instigator part, many injuries could have potentially been avoided, and you wouldn't have the surplus of mega-agitators (Cooke, Kaleta, Avery, Clutterbuck, Ott, Tootoo, etc.). Sure, there were agitators in the pre-instigator era. As for Heaten's comment, "goons" being eliminated has nothing to do with the crackdown on blindside hits. Not sure where he got that from. Fact is, as long as the agitators can still contribute to the team in other ways, GMs will still give them contracts. -

Sestito from Philly will be on the list soon, as well. -
Does this give Ryan Johnson a chance to crack a spot?

We all know Cooke is the biggest s*** head coward in the league, but that didn't look very bad. I'd be VERY surprised and upset if Cooke is suspended for that hit, not because I admire his play at all, but because I don't want the league overreacting and suspending every hard hit.

9/23 Exhibition GDT: Philadelphia Flyers 3 at Red Wings 1

I don't think any punches landed. I'd hardly consider it a fight. The video is up on youtube. Unfortunately, I didnt watch the game at all -
Shelley Suspended 10 games for hit from behind
Bring Back The Bruise Bros replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
I like the communication, as well. Shanny's first 2 suspensions were "repeat offenders", so I guess the real test will be when someone like Ovechkin throws a questionable hit. -
Shelley Suspended 10 games for hit from behind
Bring Back The Bruise Bros replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
Both hits were clearly illegal, but I think both suspensions were a bit much, but taking into consideration Shelley and Leblond have a history of suspensions, that probably played a role in determining the length of each suspension. -
9/21 Exhibition GDT: Red Wings 2 at Penguins 3

Those Pittsburgh announcers are the NHLs worst. I hate to acknowlege that the Detroit Red Wings once employed Bob Errey. What an annoying dickwad. -
Mike Modano announces retirement
Bring Back The Bruise Bros replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
What a career. Modano is 22nd all-time in points with 1,374. To be honest, I wish he could have retired with Dallas. -
I know what you mean. As much as I respect what McCarty has done for the organization, I will never purchase a picture of Lemieux turtling that is signed by both Lemieux and McCarty. What a joke that co-signing thing was.

Tampa Bay to have no fighting policy in training camp
Bring Back The Bruise Bros replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Matt Barnaby and Martin Lapointe (Iirc) got into a heated scrap in practice a few years back when both played for Chicago. Sean Avery and Michael Sauer scrapped in Rangers practice last season. -
Didn't see the Phaneuf hit/fight at all. Damn stream was so choppy all game.

Good deal for Winnipeg. The Jets should look something like: Burmistrov-Ladd-E.Kane Wheeler-Antropov-Little Fehr-Slater-X Glass-X-Thorburn -X Plenty of competition for open bottom 6 spots. Candidates include: Patrice Cormier Tim Stapleton Troy Bodie (Tryout) Spencer Machachek Ben Maxwell Kyle Wellwood David Koci (Tryout) I think Wellwood will get the 3rd line spot. Enstrom-Byfuglien Oduya-Bogosian M.Stuart-Hainsey -R.Jones Obviously lines and defensive pairings will change throughout the year.
-
Since the RFA/UFA thread is gone: *Petr Sykora, Steve Bernier, and Anton Strahlman will attend Devils camp on tryouts. *Chris Clark accepts training camp invite from Boston. *Adam Mair will attend Flyers camp on a tryout.

Selänne signs a one-year deal with Ducks
Bring Back The Bruise Bros replied to P. Marlowe's topic in General
Good to see him back for another year. He's currently 27th all-time in regular season points. 9 behind Mats Sundin, and 13 behind Guy Lafleur. Good company. -
Fighting is yucky and rude. So is hitting and swearing. Dress a team of finesse players and see how far they get. Dress a team of goons and see how far they get. Dress a team with a good blend of finesse and grit and you're on the right track. How many times do we need to go over this?
