ECQF - (8) NY Islanders vs. (1) Penguins

Haven't read through...but...my god Fleury. The guy can look like one of the best goalies in the world and then look like a complete amateur. I don't think there has ever been another goalie who has been at both sides of the spectrum like he has been.

Need to break Anaheim's 3-man forecheck.

Ducks' forecheck continued to give the Wings issues. Everytime Kindl or Quincey were in behind the net, I held my breath. Break the forecheck by quick outlets which requires your D to be able to recognize and make quick and correct decisions. Anaheim has been able to keep this strategy up due to our lack of overall team speed I think. We can't get up the ice quick enough to really make them pay for being so agressive. On the flip side, we don't offer up much of a forecheck. Again, due to lack of overall team speed to be able to get back into the play.

Totally agree. There were a bunch of times this season where Abby would be the recipient of a stretch pass and, god bless him, he couldn't control it (because that isn't the type of player he is).

Need to break Anaheim's 3-man forecheck.

I've thought about that as well. I think the Blues can afford to do that as they have a more stable D at this point. Those long stretch passes are a huge part of breaking a forecheck. For us, it is a matter of can our guys execute that play? I was at the game last night and Quincey in particular, when he had the puck it was almost as if Anaheim smelled blood and sent two guys at him everytime to force him into a mistake. I don't personally think we've had a lot of odd man rushes in this series. That's part of what I was talking about with overall team speed.
  5. For a fanbase that gave birth to "OZZIE...OZZIE!" you would think we could chant "JIMMY...JIMMY!"

Samuelsson on the top line tonight - god help us all !

LOL, you just described 95% of the lineup....

Samuelsson on the top line tonight - god help us all !

This all day. At least this guy will actually shoot the damn puck.

Someone needs to change "JIMMY HOWARD!" to "JIMMY...JI

The "JIMMY JIMMY" chant was pretty strong last night. Those scoreboards in the four corners up near the suites were even promoting the chant.

Creepy but Hopeful Pattern between 2007 and 2013

Another key difference: I don't think our guys in 2007 would accept a pass, wait a day and a half, and THEN shoot the puck. Brunner plays too slow and no one on this team can execute a one timer.

    Players who showboat after scoring

In general I can't stand it. I understand that guys should be happy when they score, so I understand that I may be viewed as a sour puss for this. I just saw Pascal Dupuis (20 goals this year) score, skate away, go to one knee, and scream as if he had just scored his first career goal. He made it 2-0 in game 1. I thought he may pull a Tyler Kennedy/Evgeni Malkin and jump into the boards. As a Wings fan, I think I may have a little bias since I don't think we've ever really had a guy who acts like that after a goal. Hossa was close to being that, but he never really went over the top. I think a lot of the young guys in the league (my generation) are to "blame" for this. Let's face it: Generation Y loves the spotlight and loves the attention.

Danny DeKeyser suffers broken thumb, out for playoffs

I BELIEVE he was on the ice when Palmieri scored. However that goes against what Ken and Mick have said.

Brian Lashoff to take Dekeyser's place in game 3

Babs mentioned Cola and Lashoff after the game to John Keating. Him not mentioning White should be a sign.

This is what I was thinking of when I started this thread. Thiss too.

    Players who showboat after scoring

Right, like I said, I had a feeling there was going to be a lot of people who view it from the other side. Let me be clear that I am excluding OT winners, first goals, stuff like that. It is guys like Patrick Kane (who was mentioned) and Tyler Kennedy who make a spectacle out of it every time they score. You don't really see guys like Crosby, Toews, or Datsyuk celebrate like a maniac everytime they score. Act like you've done it before and you expect to do it again. But is this a valid point: you see the younger generation of players doing this more so than the older generation?

    Lol, yeah I guess.

    Wings finished 5th in GA

That is their highest finish since 07-08. Everything considered (losing big time players, youth of our D), that is very impressive. Jimmy has something to do with that as well.

Jim Nill to be named Dallas Stars GM

Jim Nill will be the Stars GM because Joe Nieuwendyk got his pants pulled down by Ray Shero.....twice.....

    LOL, that is Franzen.

    Franzen's a Bargain

What seperates guys like Franzen from guys like Datsyuk/Zetterberg/other elite forwards is their DRIVE. Like it has been saide, if the Mule could just harnass an energy or drive level from game to game the way he has recently, he could be an elite player. As far as shot goes, let's face it: he has the best shot on the team and it isn't close. If we could only have that all the time.
  22. He has gone through goal droughts of 11, 9, and 10 games. He has scored in 6 of 43 games this year He has 4 goals since February 2nd, 34 games played Shooting a career low 5.9% (he hasn't been at least 10% since 08-09) He has never been a "goal scorer", but we need better than that from the captain.

    4/24 GDT: Kings 1 @ Red Wings 3

I feel like Nyquist took some advice from Tatar on what he needs to do to stay in the NHL because his drive and intensity mirrors what Tatar showed this year.

    Rebuilding Thoughts..

We also haven't had consistent offense or defense since 09 (offense) and 08 (defense-McLellan leaving).
