That is the problem right there: Dan Cleary was our #2 goal scorer last year. Cleary should be a depth player, not someone we rely on to score goals......
-
F*** YOU Filppula: seriously, how many times does the coaching staff have to tell you to shoot before you actually start shooting? you may be the most frustrating player on this team because of your reluctance to use your talent. (1 shot against Calgary) F*** YOU Hudler: see above. you're upset you keep getting scratched? do what the coaches have told you to do since you showed up in the league......SHOOT (1 shot against CGY) F*** YOU Franzen: you're a six foot monster who plays like a 5 foot nothin little girl. you have no excuse for not getting at least 10 shots per game. (00000000 shots against CGY) F*** YOU Bertuzzi: we aren't impressed by your video game bull crap anymore. shoot the puck or get out. (2 shots against CGY) F*** YOU Datsyuk (but only a little): there are still times when you don't shoot and i can't figure out why. you are on par in this league with players like Ovechkin and Crosby......but they wouldn't be caught dead with only 2 shots on net in a game. (2 shots against CGY) Abdelkader: 4 shots Cleary: 5 shots White: 4 shots Some guys get it....just not the right ones.....
-
I agree about the forwards, especially last night: they seemed to just skate with the puck until the lost it. There was no flow to speak of.
-
We haven't given up, we're just pissed. Our top guys don't shoot the puck anymore (Fil and Huds never shot anyway) and although i've liked his play so far, Ian White is NOT a top pair D-man and he shouldn't be for us.

F*** YOU DOLPHIN!!! F*** YOU WHALE!!!!
-
There are two bona fide forwards on this team. You don't know what you will get on any given night from the other 10...
-
agreed, i succumbed to frustration. but filppula and hudler in particular, they just....don't....get it. When Babs predicted 60-70 points for these two he was probably assuming that they would do what he wanted them to do.
-
no, but really....how do you win when your best players don't shoot and all they want to do is pass?

Datsyuk & Zetterberg have been split up

Yes, Bertuzzi's free pass to one of the top two lines has been confusing and unwarranted. BUT, why is Cleary getting the same treatment? I want someone who can do more than just gain center ice and dump the puck in. Give his spot to Homer, who skates hard on every shift and does more stick handling than we give him credit for. Cleary should be getting the same amount of criticism as Bert. -
Before the game tonight, I just had a feeling that we were gonna lose. Conklin starting, Columbus hadn't won yet, Wiszniewski's first game, CBJ were hyped to play Detroit, and above all, it has seemed the last couple of years that the Wings don't just have one flat game but multiple flat games in a row before they straighten it out. I wasn't surprised that we lost tonight......

How much of a steal was James Neal for Pitt?

impressive stat pull -
No, it's not a misprint: The Detroit Red Wings have cap room, and lots of it. The Red Wings, who have long walked a fine line near the cap's upper limit as one of the NHL's top spenders, are in a strangely unfamiliar position early this season, ranking just 18th in the league in projected cap spending around $59 million. In large part, the Red Wings' change in cap fortune is the result of Brian Rafalski's unexpected retirement, which shaved $6 million off their payroll. General manager Ken Holland opted not to replace Rafalski's big ticket in full, perhaps because of the underwhelming nature of last summer's unrestricted free-agent market. The Red Wings' cap payroll sits roughly $5.3 million below the $64.3 million upper limit. If they don't spend those dollars until February, that figure will translate into as much as $24 million in acquirable cap hits at the trade deadline. It's a drastic contrast to last season, when the Red Wings had enough cap room to add only a league-minimum salary of $525,000 at the deadline. And it leaves Holland virtually without restrictions if he wants to load up his roster for the playoffs. As it turns out, the Red Wings aren't the only team sitting pretty. A healthy $4.9 million increase in the limit has meant that teams simply aren't as tight to the cap as they were last season, when 12 teams were estimated to have exhausted almost every dollar of cap space. Although more than half the league projects to spend upward of $60 million, most of those teams are comfortably below the limit of $64.3 million. ohhhhhhhhhhhh boyyyyyyyyy

I'm biased towards Neal i think because obviously I've seen more of him. He always seemed to play pretty damn well against us....or maybe it was Benn....I get those two mixed up. -

ESPN insider article re: Wing's deadline cap space

I agree that we look good right now (obviously, we are 4-0). But i still think we need a sniper, because if you remember in the playoffs, when we needed a goal the only guys we could rely on were Pav and Z. Sans Franzen (in the playoffs), you can't really rely on Cleary, Huds, Fil, Homer, etc. to score on demand in the playoffs. But i do realize it is VERY early in the season, so we'll see....... -

Based on the way Kenny has played the deadline since the lockout, i completely agree with you. But going into this deadline....this is pre-lockout free spending kind of money, so let's see how Kenny handles it. Let's just cheer against Nashville all season and hope Mr. I-like-to-shoot-the-puck-through-the-net is being dangled in front of our face! -

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/adrian_dater/10/18/power.rankings/index.html?sct=nhl_t12_a1 1 Detroit Red Wings Last Week: 1 Detroit Red Wings (4-0-0) Probably not enough has been written about this fact: the Wings have had 11 straight 100 points-or-more seasons. That is simply astonishing. When will this team ever slip? It hasn't yet, and Detroit rumbled into the week still unbeaten, 4-0 for the first time since its repeat Cup season of 1997-98. This team arguably has more of an intimidating aura than any in pro sports. You can still feel a sort of fear factor at work on every opponent, and with good reason. Last week: 2-0-0 im referring mostly to the last part. I love how my favorite team has been the best franchise in pro sports for the last 20 years

Nice bit on Wings in SI Power Rankings

totally agree, NO other fan base has it better than us! -
haha, ANYWAY, i think i'm just nostalgic for what i grew up with with this team

That's my point: I think Chicago started the trend of playing obscure/pop songs for goal songs.

They play rock n roll part 2 after Hank scores. The crowd is supposed to say "Hank" instead of "Hey"
