Ryan Miller, Steve Ott traded to St. Louis Blues

Ok, I guess you guys need to set me straight because I am seeing a large overpayment from the Blues.... Miller (age 33) is an upgrade over Halak (age 28) but I think their value is quite close. Stewart is a top 6 forward and has more value than Ott who is a bottom 6 forward. Prospect and two draft picks (one being a 1st rounder) What am I missing here?

    So what do we call the 26 - 15 - 21 line?

2/2 GDT: Red Wings 5 at Capitals 6 (OT)

I didn't see much of the game, but if this offense as constructed scores 5 goals, then Jimmy needs to play well enough to win. Am I off base for today or was he average?

    1/28 GDT: Red Wings 0 @ Flyers 5

I totally disagree. I expected this outcome. Because: 1. They way the lost on Sunday 2. The fact that they don't win in Philadelphia 3. Philly has talent and they've been underachievers the last two years 4. We don't have a top 2 line center on this team right now 5. Gus is still a backup

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Vanek is the guy I want. But I feel if Kenny were to get away with saying that Nyquist and Tatar are untouchable, the conversation turns into either Sheahan or Jurco with 2 other pieces. Probably one of the D in Grand Rapids and a 1st. Am I in the ballpark with that? Hell, if we're talking rentals? Jaromir Jagr, come on down...

    Babcock's comments on playing time

Well, the blame is passed from one to the other in different circumstances. It is on Babcock when he can pick and choose who he wants to play and he picks incorrectly. It is on Holland when everyone is healthy, and we have to send down guys who make the team better because he kept signing a bunch of guys we didn't need.

    Babcock's comments on playing time

Babcock is responsible for icing inferior lineups in the beginning of the season by sitting Tatar and playing Cleary.
  8. They can kick Boston's ass out of the building and win 2 out of 3 against them, but they lose 2 straight to a team who doesn't beat anyone, they get manhandled by a bad Ottawa team at home, all the issues with Columbus and Calgary last year, etc. We were riding high after winning 5 of 6 (and should have beat Philly) until we ran into Tomas Kopecky and the big bad Florida Panthers. Valuable points being flushed down the toilet. ***The Red Wing teams that competed for Cups in 2000s would take the bad Central Division teams behind the woodshed.

    Andersson v. Sheahan

Like others have said, Sheahan will be sent down because of waivers, but it is pretty simple: Andersson will always be a bottom 6 forward. Sheahan has top 6 potential.

Why does this team sleepwalk against bottom feeders?

Exactly, and what compounds the issue is that they surrendered an extra point and now have to go to Philly without their two best players. Even if they are slumping, the Flyers have a lot of talent and Philly is a tough place to win for Detroit.

    1/26 GDT: Panthers 5 @ Red Wings 4 (SO)

It will be a cold day in Hell when Mike Babcock and Ken Holland decide to waive Dan Cleary.

    1/26 GDT: Panthers 5 @ Red Wings 4 (SO)

This. It takes a choke job to lose with a 2 goal lead that late in a period.

Why does this team sleepwalk against bottom feeders?

Consistency separates this team from the best teams in the league. Win streak snapped....

    StubHub ticket on my phone?

Do you guys know if the guys at The Joe can scan a StubHub ticket on my phone?

So when would you make a move and what type?

I believe this thread is full of wishful thinking. Especially when the players involved are current roster players. I don't know why, but the salary cap has absolutely nurtured Ken Holland when it comes to trades of any kind really. If I'm not mistaken, not considering the Brad Stuart trade, he has traded TWO roster players since the beginning of the 2005-2006 season. Jason Williams for Kyle Calder Ville Leino for whatever Philly would give us. Here is a list of our trades: http://www.nhltradetracker.com/user/trade_list_by_team/Detroit_Red_Wings/1

    Turning point!?!?!

Fair points. And I agree that we have played well in January aside from the two games especially when you consider who isn't playing. But to continue this "trending upwards" track, they need to win these next 2 games in my opinion. You can't be capable of playing like that against Chicago, then lose to Montreal and Florida. Montreal is a decent team, but they need to be beaten at The Joe. Tomas Kopecky and friends need to stop, inexplicably, having our number. That doesn't make sense and is inexcusable.

    Turning point!?!?!

    This. And this.
  19. unsaddleddonald

    Turning point!?!?!

My point is, if we can play like that against Chicago, we have no business losing to Montreal or Florida. This team needs to stop playing to the level of it's competition and start to take care of business.

1/22 GDT : Blackhawks 4 at Red Wings 5 (SO)

Negative Nancy time. This win doesn't mean a DAMN thing if we don't beat Montreal and Florida in these next two games. If we can play like that against Chicago, we have no business losing to those two teams.
  21. unsaddleddonald

    Turning point!?!?!

NO NO NO NO!!!! .....Not until they follow this up with a win against a beatable Montreal team. .....not until they beat the Florida Panthers at home. A win like this isn't much of a surprise with this team. They can beat GOOD teams. It is the BAD teams that we have trouble with...

So when would you make a move and what type?

What type of move? A move for a goal scorer. Something that has been needed for 5 years....

    Blessing in disguise?

LOL, I'm embarrassed to say that I've thought about this as well. Pav was having seemingly a career year and he goes down, but Cleary has stayed healthy all year? Mule was starting to heat up then gets hurt, but Quincey has been available to lead the team in penalties and play every game? Cool.... Ok, I'm done being an insensitive jerk...
  24. unsaddleddonald

    Blessing in disguise?

Like it has been mentioned, I'll have to believe it when I see it. I'll be at full optimism mode when Bertuzzi, Cleary, Samuelsson, Quincey, etc. are no longer on the team. We have been scorned by the Holland/Babcock duo enough to lead us to not be sure what to expect. I thought there wasn't a chance in hell that Cleary would be back. And then the season started, and Tatar was sitting while Cleary was falling over his own feet. They do a lot of head scratching things, so I dunno...

Has anyone noticed this trend? 3 years now

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/01/with_millions_and_millions_of.html Ken Holland: “We all expect groin injuries and hip flexors in September, at the start of training camp. Internally, we’re talking about why we’re having groin injuries in December and January. “I’m not sure what we can do about it this year, but it’s something we’ll look at in the summer.” Piet Van Zant is outta here!!!!!
