So the consensus on Shanny's #14 is a no?

So is it safe to say that the "high bar" aspect works against him the most? -

LOL I'm not saying that Shanahan deserves to be up there as much as Delvechhio does, but you came in here with one weak argument as to why he shouldn't have his number retired and you felt that was sufficient enough. You implied that simple because he didn't have any personal hardware he shouldn't be considered? K..... There are plenty of arguments against him, but to use one weak one is short sighted... -

I agree with both of you, and again, it sounds like we're talking about the prestigiousness of Red Wings' retired numbers. I just feel like the impact he had from day 1 was very significant. I mean, he was given the "A" before he stepped into the lockerroom and he left only to allow the organization to move forward. -
97.1 was talking about this today. The consenus is that the Lions and Tigers are (much) higher on the food chain than the Wings. I completely agree, but I hate it. What does it say about the state of Michigan where the majority of us support arguably the worst run franchise in sports with bumbling idiots running around and yet we take for granted arguably the best run franchise in sports. Factors that I understand to be true: Winning has made Michigan sports fans lethargic ESPN tells people to love the NFL and pay no attention to the NHL, so people love the NFL and ignore the NHL Unfortunately I can't make everyone think logically...

Red Wings popularity in Detroit/Michigan

I absolutely agree with this sentiment. Regardless of whether or not it makes sense, I don't think people can fully embrace the best players on this team for the simple fact that they aren't North Americans. And for the 97.1 argument, I'm not gonna say that they are hockey gurus, but they can make intelligent conversation. They know the team, they know the identity, they have been saying they want to see Kenny do a lot of the things we mention on here. Unfortunately, idiots out there would rather voice their useless opinion on who the Lions should draft or who the Tigers should pursue via trade. Let's face it: when you lose, there is more to talk about. -
Red Wings popularity in Detroit/Michigan

I think that is a great point. You could even take that a step further and suggest that a part of the reason that hockey is so disrespected is because NHL players don't make negative headlines. Obviously, that is a very backwards statement. I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm not, what does that say about us as a society in general? Again though, point the finger at ESPN who likes to talk about talk more than anything. They will take a controversial subject and beat it to death. -

No I was talking about just the Lions. -

I agree, but that is my biggest problem. The Michigan public drools over a bunch of L-O-S-E-R-S!!! -
For whatever it is worth, I believe Duchesne was confirmed with the first set of names released.

It's getting a little weird in here with all of this "manhandling" that has been going on...
-
L....O....L Don't be so modest...

$4million per for Stephen Weiss is too much.

Does anyone recall him like, crying or something, just being really disappointed when the Wings drafted him?!?!? I remember him being quoted saying something to that effect...
-
I can really only remember Kovalchuk doing that.
-
Good riddance. But you know what needed to be stopped from day 1?!?!?! "That goal brought to you by DTE Engery: where scoring means saving!!" "(something) Light The Lamp Goal, scored by..."

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 2h Montreal, Detroit and Anaheim inquired on Alex Edler. Wings made an offer. Habs may circle back. But nothing close at this point

Jonathan Ericsson - should we consider trading him?
unsaddleddonald replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I somewhat disagree with pretty much everyone. IF IF IF IF......Big E could fetch us a scorer the way Goligowski fetched Pittsburgh James Neal, then I would definitely consider it. It all depends on what we get in return. -
This. It is better for them that he didn't accept. That would have absolutely handcuffed them.

Dan Rosen @drosennhl 7m RT @BrianHedger: Bowman said they will use compliance buyouts on Montador and Olesz. #Blackhawks
-
Completely forgot about Olesz.

Ugh, delete this thread. It makes me sad...

Right, he hasn't had enough success to command big dollars.......but he's going to. That's why signing him is a pretty decent risk.

drew miller signing a mistake - who are we gonna get rid of?
unsaddleddonald replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
This. The Miller signing is inconsequential. Not signing him wouldn't have solved our roster issue. Drew Miller only makes us better. You can't ask for more from a 4th liner than what he gives.
