3/27 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Predators 0 (SO)

GO wings! On another note, I am pretty soured that politics has made its way into the league and is screwing these guys. I don't care if they are making a lot of money compared to other people. They wouldnt be making it if we didnt pay for it. The fact remains that this is unconstitutional, BIG TIME. Drew Miller is just one person who will be in the hole after leaving the game tomorrow. How many others are in the same boat? The Blue Jackets, the Blues, the Blackhawks. They are wings rivals, but they are people like you and me, plain and simple. They are just going out there to make their living like I will be on Monday. I would be furious if I had to go to another town to work for my company and had to pay out of pocket to do so. I have researched this revenue generating law for the state of Tennessee and have found that Reagan Farr is the commissioner of revenue for Tennessee. His number is 6`5-741-2461. I know I will be calling him to inquire to the legality of this, and how the NFL would have power over a state of the union to be exempt from a law that should clearly apply to them as well. Revenue Administration Commissioner Reagan Farr: (615) 741-2461 Deputy Commissioner (Operations and Support Services) Sam Chessor: (615) 741-2461 Deputy Commissioner (Tax Administration) Glen Page: (615) 741-2461 Chief Financial Officer: Ed Eldridge (615) 741-5884 Communications: Sara Jo Houghland (615) 741-2461 E-mail: sara.houghland@tn.gov http://www.state.tn.us/revenue/contactus.htm If they can tax people from out of state, then they can take complaints from people out of state.

    Pierre McGuire scares Rob Ray

Ok after seeing that second video, I am pretty sure Pierre is ***. Cuz you see how Ray reacted to him touching him. I think he knows hes ***. (And yes Rob Ray got way out of shape). That him standing all close to that guy on trade center like that and getting all excited when that guy said big stick, only a ***** would do that. Wow, NBC needs to get rid of that guy. I don't even know how he has any credibility in hockey anyway.

    USA Jersey Shortage

I have to admit when the US team roster was announced at the Classic I didn't think they had a chance. Then the first game against Canada came and I don't think I was ever more proud of team USA. I really wanted the damn icebacks to lose. Especially the likes of perry, crosby, getzlaf and weber. So in my search for the 2010 team USA jerseys I have found everyone to be out of them. The Vancouver olympic store is out, nhl.com is out, even the USAhockey store is out except one white jersey that doesn't allow for customization, because I want one for Rafalski, the man was a beast. But no such luck, what is the deal with that? Did they not make enough or did everyone eat them up after the first win against the eh-holes?

    USA Jersey Shortage

Not bad, but they only have size M and XXL. XL is my size. They also want $80 for customization and will not be available for 3-6 weeks if you do.

Patrice Cormier with shocking hit on Mikael Tam

I'm sorry, but I am just completely ill after seeing that. Literally sick to my stomach. I could not be more repulsed by another person right now. I know people on here are saying lifetime ban from the game is too steep, and criminal charges can be iffy because of hits similar to this by other players. Seriously though, that hit someone mentioned by Bure, the guy was up and alert shortly after that, its no excuse, and I would have been the first teammate to demolish that f***** for it, this instance is way over the line, so far the line is now a dot. When I read something about someone like "The shock was so big that the diagnostic places him between a severe concussion and a brain death." I'm sorry but another human being could have been extremely close to dead on the ice, his life ended. And for what? to what end? Because some punk kid who thinks he is bigger than the game, than his team, the league, that he needs to let his out of control ego go after someone? There is no possible way to even suggest that this doesn't warrant a criminal investigation and charges being filed. He didn't even attempt to check him, the video tells the tale. This in no way can be condoned, a 2 year ban doesn't even fit this. That was as close to premeditated murder in a sport as you can get. He cannot be allowed to hide behind the fact that he was playing an organized sport in a major sports league, from the appropriate punishment for his crime. I guarantee you Tam does not play another game of hockey again for a long long time, and that he will have lifetime brain damage of some sort. All because the hockey world lets people continue to play after they do something like this. The boy should see the inside of a jail for a while, and never play a game of hockey again other than pickup games in his backyard. There is nothing anyone can say to justify any other outcome. NOTHING

No he did not if you look at the post times...

Zetterberg & Cleary will play vs LA!

Red Wings' Henrik Zetterberg, Dan Cleary will return Thursday Good news for the Detroit Red Wings: Both Henrik Zetterberg and Dan Cleary gave thumbs up to returning for Thursday’s game at Los Angeles. Zetterberg has been out since Dec. 17 because of a shoulder injury and Cleary since Dec. 9, also with a sore shoulder. “I feel ready to go,†Zetterberg said after today's practice at the Honda Center. Zetterberg skated on the wing with Pavel Datsyuk at center and Tomas Holmstromon the other wing today. Cleary was on the second line, with Valtteri Filppula at center and Todd Bertuzzi on the other wing. This is huge for the Wings, to finally have two legitimate lines again. It also should help their lethargic power play.

    I'm a big fan

Plain and simple - we suck with all these injuries and old people. flat out. Holland spent too much on rafalski, Z, and franzen. Thats why we didnt keep any of the other guys. With the competition in the division and the league, this will be a really bad year.

    I'm a big fan

Look, the Z franzen remark wasn't to say they aren't that good. I just don't think you can pay those guys that much and have the depth you need in this league, I would say a mil or so less for them and rafalski, and boom you keep hossa, or samuelson and hudler. instead you sink to picking up the leftovers. and they are leftovers for a reason. Bertuzzi and williams, i think going into the season we were all optimistic that those two would be good, but they proved their salary. neither has done much, i dont care if we are paying them a 100k a season, winning is the goal, not just filling roster spots and throwing the scoring on the shoulders of three or four guys. this is a team sport. look at teams like anaheim, they double shift their top line the whole game because they know they don't have four lines that can play. that type of strategy doesn't work. you need 16 forwards playing at a high level for 60 minutes that produce. bertuzzi and williams were not doing that. I even question the miler pickup. he is decent, but the guys in ahl would have been better. they have prospects down there that can contribute better than the players passing around the league. they get passed around because they aren't that good. the magician holland just missed getting it done this year. he is trying to hard to make it work. but keeping some of the other guys from last year needed to be done, otherwise you end up with a season like this. no, you certainly couldnt predict the injuries. but if the depth had been there, you wouldnt be losing to the thrasher 2-0 or the panthers only scoring one goal. it is flat out inexcusable. you have to win those games. those are the ones that bite you in the end. if they do make the playoffs a 6-8 seed, they wont go far because it would be an exhausting effort to make it. they will be drained by the time they make it. Basically, all I am saying is this will be a bad year, as well as an early playoff exit like the one against the oilers a few seasons back.

    The "No-Goal" discussion

From the explanation on nhl.com from dum dum mike murphy, he is pretty much telling me the ref blew the whistle and it was already dead because of the intent. which means he must have intended to blow it while may was in the middle of the shot. if thst is the case, it is a horrible call. the only other case is that he lost sight of it going in the goal. we all know that would be because the goalie stopped it with his foot in the net. so you are telling me he stopped the play and called it a dead puck because he saved it behind the goal line. I swear if I saw that man in public I would stab him. that call was worse than the tuck rule they pulled on the raiders back in 2001. whats even worse is the NHL will not admit it was a blown call and they should have reviewed in toronto. I don't care what call was made on the ice. I know damn well the guys in toronto saw that replay and should have said in this case you are wrong, brad may just shot the puck in the net past the goalie. It is a goal. I can't believe babcock didn't come uncunted all over that guy. UNBELIEVABLE

    Bertuzzi, Lilja

So, yes this is my first post after visiting letsgowings for some time. Im a HUGE wings fan and can't believe I have to say this about one the players, but DAMN Ken please trade Bertuzzi at some point this season. That guy has no emotion, has terrible handling skills and cant hit the broad side of a barn. I have seen so many of his passes off target for turnovers that turn into scoring chances and shots that completely miss or ring off the post of the goal. He constantly fumbles passes to him that end up being poor entrances into the zone or turnovers altogether. Come on, please get rid of this guy for the love of hockey. He is horrible and should by all rights be in jail for his thuggery on Moore. I sure hope others are with me on this. On a positive note, Lilja is being reported as not having a headache since visiting a chiropractor and is practicing with the team. This could be great for the D as the wings will sure need depth there with the style of game being played now. And Ericsson can always use a couple games off here and there, since he pops back in the lineup and is the cause of a goal being scored.

    What now Kenny?

So what does Ken do now? first off that loss last night can be attributed to a lack of offense and the third and fourth lines doing a bad job on defense. look at the +/- ratings from the game. We certainly need to hope those reports about lilja are true, so we can bring him in to get lebda out of there. As for replacing williams, does he get a FA, pick someone up off waivers? Or do we call up the young guys? I know Babs does not care for bringing up young guys who haven't proven themselves. He should also note the play of some of the guys putting up numbers now, especially on colorado and phoenix. It doesn't matter if they are young and inexperienced. Put them on a third or fourth line with no pressure and they can contribute. More speed and athleticism is preferred over older and experienced and slower and prone to injury. Tatar, McGrath, any of those guys can come up. So what does Ken do? there is no way from seeing the replay that williams is back in december. No way. that is a long term deal and almost certain to need surgery. I would drop Howard and bring up McCollum. Howard gives up way too many rebounds. That guy will not make it in the NHL. As good as Osgood has been, he cant play 75% of the games. It just isnt feasible. Decisions, decisions.

    Bertuzzi, Lilja

Again, I won't deny the hard work, but the skill isn't there. This would not be so glaring to me if Franzen were not hurt. Without Johan, someone needs to step up and put points on the board, and you can't do that when one of your top lines has a guy screwing the pooch on the rush. like it has been said, he takes bad shots, he just needs to feed datsyuk and whoever the other linemate is at the time and make sure it gets on their stick and not at the feet or behind them or bouncing to them. So irritating. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt coming to a new system, but it has been over a month, still off target more than on. If he doesn't do anything against even the poor showing leafs tomorrow, he will just be fail.

    Bertuzzi, Lilja

I will agree he has been a hard worker on D. Then he gets the pick on his stick and tries to pass it off to exit the zone and turns it over. Example last night, I believe it was the first peeriod and he gets it in the zone, tries to make a soft touch pass to the guy rotating behind him and it goes right to the shark in front just waiting for it. could have easily been a goal if ozzie weren't standing on his head like he has been. then he completely misses the net like 4 times, and on a powerplay he slaps it right to the guy that dives in front of him. I see this type of play every game. yes the work ethic is there. the skill is not. his game doesn't fit in with this team. if it were samuelson out there, the rush up the ice would be so much more refined and smooth and there would be so many more quality chances. Datsyuk has got to be pulling his hair out with this guy fumbling passes right on his stick. the assist he got tuesday against boston would not have happened if that pass were to someone besides pavel or hank. only those two could have gotten that wild pass to the ice, under control and right on the stick to holmer for the tip in. berts play is just so unrefined and sporadic. its like hes having a seizure when the puck is on his stick. it just drives me nuts.
