It's actually a lot less of a chance than that. Just because 7 out of 25 teams since its induction have won the President's Trophy have also won the Stanley Cup has nothing to do with the actual percentage that that particular team would win the playoffs that year. Since it's a lot of math and since each series has a number of different outcomes in terms of probability, I won't explain it all, but just trust me when I say that it is definitely not a little more than a 1 in 4 chance that a team is going to win the Stanley Cup just based on history of who has won both in a single season. Sorry, nerd moment for the night. I get where you are coming from though. Based on history, it does indicate that a little over 25% of the teams that won the President's Trophy have also won the Cup that season, but it's not a cause and effect thing in terms of the playoff format.

All the more reason to push for Shea Weber or Ryan Suter and a very high caliber forward. Stuart's going to be missed and we'll have more than enough cap room to do both.

My 2 cents: My girlfriend of almost 3 years got a job in Boston and I started graduate school in Ohio. Aside from my Spring Break, part of my Winter Break, and me hopefully getting an internship there in the summer, I don't see her. We decided to do long distance, which on a relationship between two people really, really sucks to not be able to see each other that much. Comparing my situation to Stuart's makes mine look like a ******* cakewalk, and I assure you, it isn't easy. The dude is married and has children and has to deal with essentially a full time job with a short amount of leisure in the Summers in the off season. I'm sure it's pretty psychologically draining and I can totally understand his reasons for likely wanting to sign somewhere a lot closer to home. He'd at least have a home to go back to for 41 games out of the year.

Wait, did I just have a stroke or did we just pull within one?!

I hope Holland takes this game as a hint that he needs to do something before Monday. Otherwise we're not going to get very far with this kind of effort.

Make up call after that weak penalty on Miller...I'll take it.

Thanks for being able to do it for at least a while. Because of your streams, I was able to watch a couple of games I couldn't otherwise, and that includes the game against Anaheim recently with the crazy OT and the SO win. Good luck to you!

I'm going to apologize in advance for this, but it had to be done: -
Oh man...if we can convert on this power play...

FINALLY

If we play tomorrow night's game offensively and defensively like we did last night, I have absolutely nothing to worry about. The problem is, we played against the Canucks and we played damn well. We never seem to take that level of intensity towards bad teams (Islanders, Habs last week), and that's the only thing that worries me.

This. It's scary to see that there are fans of this team that still aren't satisfied even though we're in 1st place overall in a "rebuilding" season.

Alright, let's shake off this Power Play rust to go up by 2 early. We're looking pretty good so far and I love the pressure. The breakaways don't hurt either Just wish we could have scored on one of them.

Who the hell does Dan Cleary think he is?! And why can't he play like that every game?!

I'd be willing to bet this is a relatively difficult task unless you were able to contact the right people (or figure out for yourself) where the visiting team enters the building and when. All players are different, though, and especially after watching NHL36 with Lidstrom, they seem like they all show up on a bus from the hotel they're staying in, so they'll likely pass through a gate that public likely won't be able to get in, and go right into the arena. I wouldn't really condone the following, nor do I think the hotel would be willing to give you the information if they had it, but there's a very slim possibility that if you called around and found out where they were staying, you might be able to hang around their hotel several hours before the game and try to run into a few players. Like I said though, this is kind of stalker-ish, but it might score you an autograph or two if you're okay with that. This is all my guesswork though, because I've never done anything of the sort. I used to be able to hang around with my dad when I was younger after games and the players would drive out of the private JLA parking lot and some would stop and sign some autographs for the fans, but I don't think they really let people hang around like that anymore. The only way you're really guaranteed to get autographs is if you have some sort of connection somehow. Let us know how it ends up working out!

I can agree with this. He can't buy a freaking goal out there, and honestly, I think it has a lot to do with players being afraid of his potential play, thus, they put a ton more pressure on him, which leaves Hudler and Filppula open more often, leading to them scoring a lot more than expected. I can't say I hate his playmaking ability, but I really want to see him score more often again.

America's anus? Either way, I'm excited because I'll be in Ohio next year for my final year of grad school. I'll try to get tickets for sure.

The SuperSkills competition is an embarrassment

Looks like all the players are having fun and I'm having fun watching it. Except for the constant reminders that Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin aren't there. And Pierre McGuire and Jeremy Roenick. They need to get some different commentators on the NBC family of networks. -
While I know that they're trying to dump his salary, I would expect them to want a top 6 at the very least (that has much less of a cap hit) so they can remain in contention. The only way I'd say they'd want just draft picks or prospects is if they were completely out of the race, like last year. I've read some things about NYR fans wanting Parise, and they have the room to do it at the moment as far as I know, but does anyone have any knowledge on any contracts they'd need to sign for next year? I feel like at least one of their contracts is due to expire and they certainly wouldn't be able to afford everyone they have without dumping someone of worth.

Wow...5-0... I need a cigarette. I don't even smoke.
