Those "guady numbers" allow the team to make the playoffs. You also fail to mention Datsyuk's playoff runs in 06, 07, 08. But I forgot.. choke artist.
-
Yzerman never won on a team without an all star lineup either.
-
Three games vs the rest of the season. I seem to recall Zetterberg being "off" all season and the endless excuses that followed.

Datsyuk had the best season of his career last year statistically, won a Selke, finished third in Pearson and MVP voting. Now hes playing with two fourth liners and isn't on pace for 80 points. I think its safe to say that linemates affect every player. But of course it doesn't apply because player speed has nothing to do with their ability.
-
Zetterberg didn't shutdown Getzlaf.. he out scored him. Datsyuk plays against the other teams top defenseman and shutdown unit. Zetterberg plays with Lidstrom and faces the other teams top line. And no, Datsyuk injuries prevented him from scoring in the playoffs. What prevented Zetterberg scoring over 90 points in the regular season?
-
This team is full of bottom six defensive forwards. You can trap teams to death, if you're not scoring you're not winning. Having Datsyuk and Zetterberg split is completely unecessary.
-
Zetterberg credit for what? Being a PPG player while playing with top six wingers? Because it doesn't seem like any credit is being given to Datsyuk, who is playing with two anchors and still playing Selke hockey.
-
Draper, Helm, Cleary, Abdelkader and call take faceoffs just fine. And like I said above, you can roll three lines instead of four. The only thing holding back a D-Z-H line is Babcock. If they were winning and in the playoffs fine but they're not. Babcock doesn't like change, his record speaks for that.
-
If an excuse is good for Zetterberg or Lidstrom then it should be fine for Datsyuk. But since it never is and Datsyuk is always held to a higher standard you're going to make this a Datsyuk vs Zetterberg argument to discredit it. Zetterberg slumped all last season and nearly every thread was filled with excuses ranging from linemates to the fact that he was a "Shut down center".
-
Its actually the reverse, im using the same excuse that was used for Zetterberg last season for Datsyuk. Except Zetterberg was playing with more talented wingers last season and didn't even hit 80 points.
-
Can't complain about one guy and give the other a pass.
-
People treat Datsyuk with kid gloves? Thats laughable in comparison to the golden Swede.
-
Thread has nothing to do with Zetterberg and everything to do with a hypocritical fan base.
-
Zetterberg is on pace for around 82 points. Thats not "Elite" level numbers. Hes not producing at the level hes hyped on this site. Datsyuk is playing with the two worst forwards 5 on 5 on this team. If the roles were reveresed, Zetterberg's linemates would absolutely be to blame. As they were all last season, even when he was playing with Hossa.
-
Search for threads regarding Datsyuk in 06-07. Datsyuk was once offered up for Olesz and picks. Lang was too high of a return for the greedy russian.
-
Only better GM in sports history is Brian Cashman. Doing so much with soo little talent..
-
The problem is people are expecting 100 points when hes playing with two fourth liners. Its a little unrealistic. Zetterberg was given a pass because of linemates last season but Datsyuk cannot.
-
Steve Yzerman and Ken Holland have nothing to do with that... Best coach ever
-
This is Babcock's first experience with true adversity in regards to the Salary cap and major injury issues. Yes we had issues in regards to injured defenseman in 2007 but we had stacked forwards also. This is Babcock's first true test and its not going well.
-
Id wager that Carlyle has changed his lineup more than once in an attempt to get things going. You know.. thats what good coaches do, they don't blame injuries they produce with what they got.
-
Datsyuk is the top line center on this team. I think it would be appropriate to have him on a line with at least one player with NHL caliber speed before saying that hes not playing up to his potential.
-
Anahiem is five points behind Detroit.. So four line certainly isn't benefiting Detroit not at the expense of our best player.
-
Datsyuk is playing 20 minutes a game on average. Adding a two minutes to the other three lines will not kill them. But oh wait, theres no middle ground between a four line team and team Getzlaf.
