Its obvious that its going to happen and its obvious that Kovalchuk is just the player that this team and Datsyuk needs. So who would you move? Its not going to happen for scraps or Maltby +. Think Kronwall or Franzen or Flip + a prospect + picks. And for those of you who say that we don't have enough assets to get it done, Detroit has a decent pipeline of redundant prospects. Salary cap problems? What problems? If Lidstrom wants to play again next season, make him do so at a severely discounted rate.

Please continue reading the various responses suggestioning that the team doesn't have enough depth to make the trade, that the salary hit will be too much and that people would rather have Franzen and Kronwall over Kovalchuk. Its a mental delusion that will be forgotton the day they see Kovalchuk and Holland at a press conference.

Hes a playmaking center. He isn't Ilya Kovalchuk or Alexander Ovechkin. Hes one of the top three passers in the game. Apparently this news hasn't made it to you guys yet. Put Zetterberg on a line with two pylons and see how well he produces. Oh wait, speaking of Zetterberg, hes on pace for 32 goals. No threads? No complaints? Oh right, Datsyuk is "disinterested". So much so that he literally stole the puck from Bertuzzi twice in the Calgary game to actually get something going. This fan base in unbelievable at times.

Nope, Lidstrom is the best player in history and Datsyuk is disinterested and should be traded for a 7th rounder.

Apparently you haven't been a Red Wings fan long. Everyones play is a result of Yzerman being in the building and Lidstrom's leadership and Zetterberg's extra gear. Datsyuk is a lazy Russian, only in it for the money and is Charmin soft in the playoffs.

How does a 100 point, Selke winner and MVP finalist raise his game any more for the playoffs? If anything, Zetterberg leaves something to be desired during the regular season.

Let Lidstrom walk, sign Kovalchuk. Speak to the Devils about taking back Rafalski. Play a Kindl/Datsyuk defensive pairing 38 minutes a night.

How so? You're saying that Zetterberg is a better player in the playoffs because he "Turns it on". Yet Datsyuk is the superior player over the entire regular season and is very good in the playoffs when not injured. You're saying that an 82 game season means nothing in comparison to 24 games in the playoffs.

People can say whatever they want but don't use one excuse for Zetterberg underperforming and discredit the same excuse in regards to Datsyuk.

What is Zetterberg great? Playing better over 24 games instead of 106? Based on sample size, Datsyuk is the superior player. Zetterberg "saves it" so he doesn't get injured.

I put a C on my Datsyuk jersey three seasons ago. Looks fine.

Its as ridiculous an argument as suggesting that Yzerman ever wins without Fedorov. No Datsyuk, no cup. No Fedorov, no cups. Zetterberg didn't win anything by himself and as a matter of fact has never been a superstar without playing with Datsyuk.

Lets discuss just how overrated and over paid Nicklas Lidstrom is.
