DiPietros contract isnt really a fair comparison. The money he makes never drops a cent in any year of the contract so their is no "garbage years".

The point in the cap was to basically prevent big money teams from buying up all the top end talent with fat paying contracts and leave the small market teams in the dust. We are starting to see teams do just that by using loop holes to circumvent the cap. It really doesn't matter to me i hate the NHL hard cap anyways...

And im sure a lot of Wings fans never imagined Lenio would go on to put up a Conn Smythe type playoff run and reach the cup finals when he was traded to Philly. You never know. BTW Leino actually was a bigger contributor than Gagne in their playoff run.

Other than those 3 seasons with 20+ its really not that bad. Around average.
