how can people say Osgood isn't playing badly? 2.75 GAA (27th) .896 save % (40th) I know GAA is as much a team stat as anything, but save percentage is not. he's got to get that up.

Planning a trip to detroit, don't know the area, help

I highly recommend renting a car. public transportation in Detroit is abysmal, and depending upon how long you're there you'll probably want to venture over to Windsor or out to the suburbs. as far as bad neighborhoods, that means pretty much anything between downtown and the 'burbs. as long as you're in the downtown area you should be fine. the Pontchartrain hotel in Detroit is nice and is very close to JLA - upscale though and I don't know your budget. -
they are teetering on the edge of not making the playoffs, and it seems a lot of people don't want to admit it to themselves.

four games seems excessive. however, I do think a suspension is warranted. was Bradley preparing to fight? yes. but he barely got his gloves off when Carcillo blasted him in the face. fighting in hockey has an element of respect and honor that needs to be upheld, and Carcillo did not. I wouldn't call it a sucker punch necessarily, but he didn't give Bradley a chance to protect himself or fight back. the league doesn't want to see this kind of thing become commonplace (and it could very easily) so they came down hard on Carcillo. oh, and the cross check? barely a love tap. how that has anything to do with it I have no idea.

that's a 1.176 points-per-game average. based on what I just posted, that's barely 8th-seed performance. so at that point they won't be in a playoff spot, most likely...so it won't be about IMPROVING their seed...it'll be about EARNING one.

and don't forget, with the Olympics affecting this season, the Wings cannot afford to play the "catch up later" game. with how many of the Wings will be expending physical and mental effort playing in the Olympics, the travel, potential injuries, and the compressed schedule afterward, they need to make up some considerable ground NOW. if they have to bust their humps just to make the playoffs, it makes a long playoff run that much more difficult due to fatigue and injuries. is it time to panic? no. but it is definitely time to be concerned.

the longer they go playing like that, the worse it gets. fast. this is from someone else at Abel to Yzerman:

10 game funk? they've played almost 30 games and the funk has been there since day 1. the season is nearing the halfway point. in 2-3 months the playoffs will be a month away and it'll be too late to make up as many points as they'll need if they continue their current pace.
-
if the Wings are .500 until those players come back, they'll probably miss the playoffs.

I'll send you a roll of tape if you'll use it to tape your hands together so you can't type any more.

I'm new to this forum, so maybe some of the other members can answer a question for me. I've noticed in a couple other threads that Carman seems to be either the resident hockey-ignorant dope...or he just likes to stir up trouble (troll). Which is it?

we need him to come around BEFORE the playoffs. NOW would be a good time. that's the point of the article. the team itself isn't playing well enough that Osgood can slack off like last season. we need him to step it up NOW, or the playoffs won't matter because the Wings won't be playing in them.

not sure where you read "stats are meaningless" in my posts. and sorry for bumping a NINE PAGE thread. seems like a popular discussion, and after last night's game I think it was worth bringing up again. the guy is a turd. he touches the puck and the other team ends up with it more often than not - and it's usually when they're trying to get some pressure in the offensive zone. the guy is like a relief valve for the other team. how can someone that big get pushed around on the boards so much?
-
how ridiculous - comparing a forward's giveaways to the team's defensemen. derrrrrr now look at WHY Datsyuk has so many giveaways. he's a dangler. he makes offense happen. the way he controls the puck along the boards in the offensive zone is beyond amazing. he does it all game every game, but that kind of play results in turnovers - and so do his attempts at centering the puck for scoring opportunities. Datsyuk's giveaways are a result of his aggressive (and productive) playing style. Bertuzzi's giveaways are a result of him being a turd, getting knocked off the puck by much smaller players, and poor decision-making. I'd rather see Bertuzzi just dump the puck into the zone and then go chase it, crushing someone in the process, than actually try to carry the puck.
