Honestly, I've never considered him overrated because apart from his Norris-nomination in 08, I haven't seen anyone rate him very high. Perhaps Toronto, but this is the same media that ran Larry Murphy out of town and overrates all of their players. I wouldn't think of them as a source of information more than a band of bumbling idiots trying to pimp their sorry franchise.

That's because they consistently make stupid plays. Myers does not, and if he won the Calder it would be well deserved. You act like Myers is only being considered because of some unknown hype machine and Howard is the only one close to deserving of the award with your attitude. Howard has had 10 games (as shown by Lidstromboli) where he has had under a .900 sv%. You act like he has been perfect since his first good game here, and that has not been the case at all. He has chinks in the armor just like Myers does.

Not too long. About half an hour? I can't fall asleep and I'm listening to "DON'T STOP ME NAO" by Queen so I'm keeping busy. Plus I have a bunch of work I'm trying to catch up on regarding a site in Troy so I got plenty of time to kill for myself.

Should the Wings part ways with Osgood?
Doc Holliday replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
In short: no. In long (actually list form): 1. He is on the cap next year regardless unless there is a buyout which ain't happenin. 2. It is possible someone would want a trade for him (veteran backup with 2 cup rings as a starter says hello) but it isn't likely considering his age. 3. Howard has explicitly stated how much Osgood has helped his development, and he will still need it next year if he doesn't want to end up like a Mason or Ellis. 4. Osgood has been dedicated to the Winged Wheel since he got here, and moving Osgood before allowing him to get his 400th win here would be a serious blemish on Detroit's almost perfect reputation of loyalty within the franchise. Players like that. -
In all of Howard's starts: (for the sake of clarity I'm just going to use the "record" used before instead of listing every start and how he did. 18-11-12-12-2-1-1-2 So he was scored on within the first 10 minutes 18/58 times. To compare: Osgood's "f*** I got scored on early!" percentage: 42% Howard's FIGSOE percentage: 31% Not factoring in first shots (or shots within 5 minutes of the game) allowed for either goaltender. Also Osgood's record in his last 10 starts was 2-6-2 before the Philly game.

In all of Osgood's starts: Philadelphia: First shot Minnesota: First shot Washington: 18 minutes into the second period Chicago: 7 minutes into the first, 7th shot on net Nashville: 14 minutes into the second New Jersey: 15 minutes into the first Calgary: First shot Nashville: 10 minutes into the first Florida: 8 minutes into the third Toronto: 10 minutes into the first San Jose: 14 minutes into the second Boston: Shut out Calgary: 14 minutes into the second Vancouver: Less than a minute into the first Phoenix: 16 minutes into the first Colorado: 9 minutes into the third LA: 5 minutes into the first Buffalo: 12 minutes into the first Washington: 4 minutes into the first Chicago: 1 minute into the second St. Louis: 7 minutes into the first So: (<10 into the first/<0 into the second/<10 into the second/<0 into the third/<10 into the third/>10 into the third/overtime/none against) 9-4-1-4-2-0-0-1 9/21 times Osgood has been scored on within 10 minutes of play. 4 of 21 on the first shot. Numbers could be off but that should be just about correct. I'll do Howard later (that's what she said).

And I suppose Hudler being Wings' property when he comes back has no bearing on your opinion of the arbitration then.
-
Can we thank Samuelsson and Hossa for not taking lower salaries to play for the Wings? Are players always at fault when the teams they recently played for cannot pay them the money they believe they deserve?
-
Once again, if the team was healthy they wouldn't have needed it. Franzen, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Rafalski, Filpulla, and Kronwall should be plenty of offense for a team to be competitive. Hudler is not to blame for half the team being injured this season.
-
Everyone knows this is about Osgood's performance tonight. If he had done fine today there would not have been a thread about how Osgood is 2-6-2 in his last ten. No ******* chance.
-
That would not have been the case if the team was healthy.
-
Yes. Howard is as good as his stats indicate. I don't understand how you could possibly think otherwise if you watched the team this year.
-
That's right. Instead of argue the post, go after the poster. That brings an intellectual, civil discussion to the table.
-
Who is honestly asserting that Osgood has played at the level Howard has? Those who are "defending" Osgood are defending the fact that Osgood isn't some s*** goaltender all of a sudden and that he still has a place on this team as a backup and mentor to Howard.
-
Did Osgood punch your mother or something? Because you seriously seem to have a lot of vitriol toward the guy and anyone who isn't ready to throw Osgood to the wolves.
-
OH NOES WE MIGHT NOT GET FIFTH WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO!?!? Stop bitching about the demise of the Wings, already.
-
At least it was a virtually meaningless game, right guys?
-
I'm not shocked. It was a nothing game for Detroit. The Flyers are battling for a playoff spot and they showed it. I am glad Howard got some rest and will be glad if the Flyers make the playoffs so they can make things hell in the Eastern Conference for once. And the good news is Osgood didn't get pulled or let in 6+ goals. It was still a close game even with the softies and poor play of the team.
-
Why would Osgood play the shot on a 2 on 1 when there is a good amount of space to make the pass and not on a 4 on 2 where there is less space to make passes?
-
Who played after Osgood won in Nashville?
-
HE'S A WITCH!! BURRNNN HIMMM!!!

And Downie is what? A potential Selke candidate? And Downie isn't? And Downie doesn't? How many pressure situations has the great Steve Downie been in? How many game winning Stanley Cup Final goals does Steve Downie have? Unsubstantiated bologna. So you think Hudler doesn't try out there, and that he doesn't have as much heart as Downie? Based on? Yup, no heart. No drive. No willpower. Newfy: One good season doesn't define consistent at all (not to mention the fact he is playing with STAMKOS AND ST. LOUIS). And no, Downie doesn't have as many goals as Hudler.
-
Did I not make myself clear when I explained why Hudler is a better option than Downie? A player who has been CONSISTENTLY getting better with 3rd line minutes (and 3rd line teammates) over a player who gets to line up with a 40+ goal scorer and a 90+ pt Hart/Pearson winner (and hasn't even matched the point totals of Hudler's 08-09 season yet)?

Lighten up.
