I was holding my breath watching him fall to the ice. His helmet was not on and he was out cold so he couldn't protect his head. Gutless play by Wiz. If you want to pay a guy back for making a borderline hit on your player do it within the rules. Horrible play.

I'm not completely disregarding them, I just consider it a strange stat to reaffirm what everyone already knows. Especially considering there are many better statistics to compare the two with.

I'm aware of what the blogger points out, but is anyone surprised that statistically the team is better in front of Howard than Osgood because Howard has been playing better? Like I said before, it is like saying the Wings have a better record with Howard than Osgood. It is unnecessary redundancy and brings no new information to the table. If there was a heated discussion about which goaltender is better this would be very interesting information. But it isn't. Howard is the #1 netminder for Detroit by a landslide and this is only once facet that shows it. WingsfaninMA: You really going to try and say that the Wings players are somehow playing better in front of Howard than Osgood? Statistically they are performing better when it comes to goals against but that is in direct relation to the goaltender behind them. The Wings don't magically play better with Howard than Osgood. They have fewer goals to worry about with Howard than Osgood. And it is natural to have outliers in these statistical comparisons. Fil, Miller, and Drapes are good candidates for that.

If the roles were switched Howard would still have better numbers when it comes to the graph. But I still think it is misleading considering the injuries, line changes, and other issues when it comes to this team. Howard is playing great and it is shown by watching him play. I consider this to be unnecessarily redundant (like comparing Howard's GAA and SV% to Osgood as a way to show Howard is playing much better this year. We already know that he is doing better).

It's really hard to compare +/- with players in front of their respective goalies when the goaltenders have started the way they have. Osgood has started two games since December and Franzen was out for most of the year. Also considering the team has been so much better the past 9 games (Howard starting all of them) hasn't hurt his case either. Though I don't need these little +/- details to know Howard has been playing great.

There are not vertical stripes in the jerseys I mentioned. I do like the angular stripes because they are more original than the standard horizontal, but I hate vertical stripes. And we can agree to disagree on how "sad" the jerseys are.

Old logo was owned by Disney so they were unable to use it. I agree with you about the old design and colors. "Sharks - Should have kept their original jerseys, but instead opted for those added black and white stripes as well as some orange to go with it. Before that, they added grey to it, which was also bad. The original was more plain, and much better to look at." "Stars - I wish they somehow kept the North Stars color scheme. Also, that uterus-like 3rd jersey logo needs to be canned." No on the North Stars (horrible colors) and that 3rd hasn't been used for a couple years now. "Coyotes - The old logo was terrible (what the hell was it!), but at least the colors were better with purple, green, black and burgundy being there. Now they just have red and white jerseys like everyone else. Also, that greyhound bus jersey is plain ugly." The colors were pretty awesome. This is my personal opinion on what the designs should look like: "Kings - Should have kept the black and white jerseys they wore during the Gretzky era." Agreed. "Blues - Don't know why they added those yellow stripes a few years ago, because it was perfect up until that point." Also agreed. I believe the blue red jerseys were one of the best. "Flames - They should always wear the jerseys they wore in the 80's. Now it's their 3rd jersey I believe, but it should be the primary ones." Blech. I prefer the late 90s for some reason. Draper sure has been playing a helluva lot better than last year. He's been a pretty reliable defensive forward (who doesn't know how to shoot the puck).

You find me a backup with Osgood's resume and mental focus in the post-season (who will take 500k), including a team that will take Osgood, also without tarnishing the loyal reputation the Wings have and I will say "bring him in!" Otherwise Holland is keeping him for next year. Considering Howard is making roughly 750k (2.1 mil between them), I don't think that is too much money invested in goaltending.

What do you mean injuries were not an excuse? The team has played completely different healthy than injured.

1. Osgood is not frustrated. He has been a great mentor to Howard and the team has been taking note. 2. Osgood commented on the fact that both him and Howard didn't have a chance to start for a good month (Howard in November, Osgood in February) and it seems like that has been dealt with fine 3. Osgood will get more playing time next year because the team will most likely be healthy the majority of the year and wins won't be as hard to get as this year. Considering the team is 7-2 since the Olympic break (with Howard not playing like he did in February) I think they will be in good shape next year. 4. Howard still needs a mentor to get him through his sophomore year so he doesn't become the next Steve Mason or Dan Ellis. Plus he is a clutch playoff goaltender, and if Howard does bad this post-season or next Osgood would be the best backup available. In short, he stays.

Something is seriously wrong with Cleary. He is such a better skater than Holmstrom (at least skating straight) but can't provide half the offense he can. And all he did this game was skate straight into a Calgary defenseman, turn the puck over, and on some occasions fall down.

That and Helm just let his man stand right next to the net for the goal. He looked lost out there.
