Because the point is to score with the stick. End of story. Why do you think players aren't allowed to bat the puck in with their arms or legs?
-
Of course they are.
-
Lidstrom and nobody else. The rafters are for the legendary players. Nobody else other than Lidstrom (currently) is at that level.
-
Ah brass bonanza. Very nice.

But the team can't afford to waste any games to see if Osgood is still rusty and can be put out there as cold as a polar bear.
-
-
So you don't think this rule will work?
-
Well for starters I am agreeing that the Wings can't fall back to Osgood at this point. Secondly Osgood was getting consistent starts (and wins) and started playing better when the playoffs came to play (and Conklin faltered). Completely different year.

Why is there so much love for Filppula on this board?

I always thought he was overpaid. -
It's going to be fun to see Osgood come in rusty, likely let in a softie, then have three threads started talking about how washed up he is...again. I think at this point is the season it is too late to get Osgood going in any capacity. It is Howard or bust. Good luck, Babcock.

He'll always have a beard to me.

I changed my account name from one L to two. Also thank you for the inspiration.

Helm, Eaves. Two players to your two. I'm sure it is a lack of desire. Euro players just don't have the same drive for hockey as North American players do. Right?
-
This guy never seems to die. Good for you, Cheli.

That Kesler and Raymond line is still better than most of the Wings lines. Kesler has been having a great year and Raymond hasn't been doing too bad himself either.

My mistake. Even that is ridiculous. He was the best defenseman on the ice last night and because of him not only did Ignila not get a good chance on a breakaway but it caused Datsyuk to score. He is a quite defenseman out there and he has been getting better. Considering he is a +19 on a team that is -5 (don't forget the next two guys from him are his defensive partner and selke winner who are +16 and +11 respectively), has 41 points on a nothing offense (and is steadily getting more and more each game), and has stopped players like Kane and Igninla (save last night) for most of the season I think he has been one of the better defensemen most nights.

1. You are once again overvaluing the roles of guys like Drake and Mac, considering there are plenty of guys on the roster who have their same attitude yet nothing is getting done. 2. Who has been playing better than Lidstrom? Can't be Rafalski. Can't be Stuart. Can't be Kronwall. Can't be Ericsson. Is it Lilja? Maybe Lebda?

Chris Osgood Johan Franzen Nicklas Lidstrom Andreas Lilja Pavel Datsyuk Steve Yzerman Vladamir Konstantinov Slava Kozlov Aaron Ward Jiri Fischer (was favorite current Wing until injury)

That's a relief because I was worried I would have to keep arguing with everyone about Osgood for the next year. -

In that lineup the paycuts are already given. Lidstrom with his 4.00 mil and Holmstrom with 1.50 mil. Why he mentioned Bertuzzi would be taking a paycut when he doesn't add one is beyond me. Perhaps he meant that it would be a cut compared to offers he would get in free agency?
-
You said "take a pay cut AT 1.5 mil". And I answered that it is perfectly plausible for him to take that salary considering how much he likes it here. The interpretation is irrelevant because 1.5 was the number you put up. And what do you mean allegiance? He showed a lot of loyalty by keeping a contract with the Red Wings and going to an international company (in business terms) to do his work and most likely come back within two years instead of sign with another rival company (once again in business terms) and be lost for good. “In Detroit there wasn’t place for me and I didn’t want to go to another club. So I didn’t ask for a trade,” Hudler said. “Then came Dynamo with their offer. I started thinking about it and decided to go to Russia. It was tough but this is not a question of life or death. It is only hockey.”
