It's fun to read these GDTs. Wings win and it is all about how great Holland is. Lose and it is all about how Holland should have added someone to keep the Wings from letting in 5 goals.

I think you are obsessed with telling him he is obsessed with telling you you're obsessed with fighting. Anywho, not a big deal. If the guy is as scrappy as they say I look forward to seeing more of him.

Do we want Ponikarovsky for a defenseman and a promising prospect? Especially when it is possible that the Wings won't make the playoffs this year? Does anyone even want Lebda? Kenny could have offered him up and gotten no deal from Toronto.

Ok stop using Afinogenov as an example because he was a horrible free agent to pick up. Horrible. The previous two years he played 56 and 48 games and scored 28 and 20 points respectively. That is 16 goals between those two seasons. (Williams had 17 in 08-09 playing for the Thrashers and Bluejackets) He was not a good choice before the season started, and it amazes me he is brought up as someone who Holland should have pursued.

If it is incidental why should it be a penalty?

And how do you plan on getting a consistent winger, plus player, who stacks up points? If you can't provide a solution then just don't try the armchair GM bit.

I really don't see how he could have done much better. Sammy was gone. Holland picked Franzen over Hossa for less money and Hossa had to walk for being a UFA. Hudler bolted for another league. You can't magically trade free agent's rights away for assets. People act like it was such a big deal because of the fact that Detroit lost so many goals. Well for starters Hossa was going to be out for half the year (how many goals has he scored this year? 17), Franzen wasn't expected to be out (and he would have had more than 17 at this point), Hudler wasn't expected to bail (Holland had no choice because of salary cap restrictions and he retains his rights when he comes back to the NHL. Sammy was simply a casulty of the salary cap because he was asking way more than Holland could offer. The injuries came at the worst time, and there is no way Holland could have known. Datsyuk and Zetterberg's fall from grace also weren't exactly predictable (however they have been playing much better). Lidstrom was useless offensively for half the year. This year is a result of s***ty s***ty luck. The injuries, the no-goal calls, and the vets just losing their touch for a good part of the year. Holland didn't do a "great" job (Williams) but he didn't do so bad that it will be looked back as the offseason that will live in infamy either.

To the above: Wasn't there a big controversy with the media acting like the two skiers hated each other, when in reality they had the utmost respect for one another? I remember a female Olympian talking about how the media was making up a conflict between her and another US athlete.

I really don't see how much of a difference there is. You have Crosby and Ovechkin getting the main attention when there is a game. Then lower tier stars (check out the NHL network commercials. Jordan Staal, Zach Parise, Ryan Getzlaf, Michael Cammeleri, Patrick Kane, Steven Stamkos, and Tim Thomas all get little spots during breaks in the action). Then you have teams like San Jose, Detroit, and New Jersey who have had very good teams for some time. Then teams with young talent (Colorado, Tampa Bay, NYI) And the more hockey you watch/listen to, the more attention everyone gets. Crosby and Ovechkin may get the most, but they aren't the ONLY ones who are getting media attention (Remember how much of the limelight was on Hossa last year?).

And we lost a fringe top 4 defenseman who specializes on the power play. Stop the presses! (not directed towards you but towards the people who always like to bring up the Quincey debacle) Honestly people cling on to that "blunder" as much as possible, but how much did the Wings lose?

You could always ignore the thread. Cause you know that if each side keeps going back and forth with "I disagree" then it isn't going to matter who "gets it".

Cujo was the only good player on the Wings roster when he was here. The entire debacle dealt with coaching and management when he WAS here. Also Hasek helped the Wings in 08 by splitting time with Osgood during the regular season. He also wasn't terrible in the 07 playoffs either.

I don't blame Todd for the Sharks going out early, I blame him for the Sharks going out a whole round earlier than they are supposed to. Thornton was with the Sharks when Wilson was coach. They lost in the second round. Wilson was fired and McClellan was hired. They lost in the first round.

I'm fine with that. The only question I really have leading up to this point is the goaltending come playoff time, because we all know that Howard is going to be starting between the pipes for Detroit. Will he falter? Will he rise to the occasion? Will he be of no consequence to the Wings' chances? No need to acquire a goaltender when you have a rookie playing great and a two-time Stanley Cup winning vet backing him up.

Thornton was with a team of superstars to offset his fail. Not so much with the Sharks.

From many visits here you will notice just about any critique of a Red Wing not named Rafalski, Draper, Osgood, Maltby, May, or Ericsson will automatically make you the antichrist of LGW. Never question the coaching. No matter what it is, it is all the players. They probably didn't need a coach.
