This board is starting to get ridiculous with the amount of overreacting regarding that signing.
-
Florida took Campbell's contract. And he was actually overpaid.
-
Yeah, no idea why Babcock wasted a game with Nyquist on the fourth line. He has earned his ice time.
-
Blame Howard for being injured.
-
Stop playing White with anyone but Lidstrom please.
-
Look at Nyquist go!
-
Kronwall with a terrible two plays. Gives it away on the first and then tries to make some stupid ticky tack play on the second. Wake up.

How can you be a dark horse as the #1 seed? They are in the perfect position to be upset.
-
They have been horrible the past 15 or so games, so what makes you think they should be in the upper tier of power-ranked teams? It is a ranking system based on recent performance. That's it.

Smith being sent down???

I can understand pessimism as long as the discussion is rational and level-headed. I can personally understand a lot of the questions about this team and its ability to capture a twelfth title this year. Calling the team a bunch of ******* is just ridiculous. Be negative if you want, but don't be an ass about your own negative opinions of the team.

Nashville does not scare me. They haven't beaten a legitimate playoff team yet, and if Detroit wants to win the cup, they have to prove they are a legitimate playoff team.
-
1. By giving up on home ice advantage in the playoffs, you are immediately looking for the harder path. 2. If you take any seed lower than 5th, you aren't winning the cup. No team has done it. No team will likely do it. 3. You are asking for a lot of upsets for that plan to even work out. Detroit needs to take 4th, beat Nashville (look at how Detroit of 08 and Chicago of 10 did after a hard fought series against them) and use that adversity to take the next three.
-
I would not want to take the risk of playing against the Sharks in the first round and give up any home ice advantage during the playoffs. Plus, no team lower than a 5th seed has won the cup before. Not sure I want to give up on the Cup just because the team is underachieving right now.

Not Zetterberg's fault Crosby has been injured since.

The Official NHL Suspension Thread
Doc Holliday replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
Keth has a history of targeted shots to the head, while Doan has a history of just being reckless. Makes sense to me. -
Nyquist? Mursak? Though I do believe that the "over-ripening" aspect might have been legitimate when we didn't have much room (2008) to fit those younger guys into the system. Now, if they have legitimate NHL talent they should be up on the 3rd or 4th line.

Because it is an undisputed fact (except around here I suppose) that Yzerman was never at the same level as Howe, Gretzky, Orr, or Lemieux. Only a Wings fan will imply that Yzerman was at their level. Yet strangely enough played more PK time than Datsyuk. What did that say about Datsyuk's role on the PK that year? I'm not saying Crosby is up to Datsyuk's level defensively. I'm saying that the gap between their defensive games isn't as wide as the gap between their offensive games. And the excuse "because he dedicates time to defense" is ridiculous because as centers they BOTH have to play a full 200 foot game for their team to be successful. We aren't talking about Datsyuk vs. Ovechkin here. But if Datsyuk's defensive game is so amazing in comparison to his peers, he should be out there. Especially when Detroit's PK has been terribad for the last few years.
-
I thought everyone except Datsyuk had a good game tonight.
-
They signed an agreement to make sure these events wouldn't happen again 4 days after he bolted. I hate it, but the spirit of the rule doesn't really apply in Radulov's case.
-
Gretzky and Lemieux are two of the top 3 players of all time. Yzerman isn't even top 10. There is a reason for that. He never had the offensive skills in any point in his career that Lemieux and Gretz had in their primes. That isn't even arguable. Lidstrom was a -2 and won the Norris. Next. Also, if you don't want a snarky answer, don't act like just by watching Crosby a few times you know for a fact how often he plays in a certain situation. The NHL website has all that information right there. Everyone knows that the Selke is a primarily reputation based award. The fact that Datsyuk has won it over players (Zetterberg included) who over the past few years have had greater defensive responsibilities (PK time is a huge reason why him winning 3 in a row is suspect to me) and defensive performance makes me wonder why people decide to use it as an indicator of who is truly the best defensive forward.

How much of a steal was James Neal for Pitt?
Doc Holliday replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
Everyone knows James Neal is a good scoring forward. But do you think that his production would have increased to this degree if he was still in Dallas? Scorers score more when they have great playmakers centering them. -
I did mean the 2009 2010 stats and the entire premise was simply to dispel the notion that Crosby can't hold Datsyuk's jock defensively. He is a center and to be successful at the position he has to have some amount of defensive awareness and ability. He wouldn't, because even with abandoning defensive play he couldn't touch either of their single season records in points. There is a reason nobody has. Points aren't everything, but they do mean a lot. I came up with them by looking at the stats.
-
Yzerman is not better than either Lemieux or Gretzky, so now you are just looking like a gigantic homer. Secondly, if Crosby beat Datsyuk by 40 points during any season, there is no chance in hell that Datsyuk changing his game would lead to that many more points. Especially since he gets a good portion of his offense now from his defensive game. The funny thing is that Crosby can play defense (in 2010 he had more shorthanded time on ice than Datsyuk *GASP*), yet people act like he is terrible in his own end.
