I think you might be overreacting.

Second seed will keep us away from Vancouver until the conference finals, assuming they don't get bumped off by a Cinderella team. St. Louis just needs to stop winning.

Source of Gaustad to anywhere? -
And this relates to Gomez, how? Goal scorers have slumps. Franzen has shown to have more irritating slumps than most goal scorers, but still can put the biscuit in the basket a good number of times over the course of the season. Gomez has proven to be relatively useless in every single facet of the game. And is paid a ton more. Not comparable.

Datsyuk is one player, and the team has been having issues without him. With Crosby out, Malkin has been tearing it up. Not to mention they have Neal and Staal to help out. Chicago has Hossa (inb4 Hossa/Franzen debate) and Kane (theoretically) to help, but with Kane crapping the bed they haven't done well. Detroit needs some help at the top 6, because Franzen plays much better as a complimentary piece and without Datsyuk that can't happen. I don't care if that is similar to other teams. Detroit wants to be the best, so they have to put themselves in a better position than other teams. -

If his potential was to be a 40 per year player, they wouldn't have paid they guy 3.9 per year. It's not about needing someone who can finish. It is about needing more than one person who can finish. While Hudler is surpassing expectations, Detroit has shown this season they lack enough top end forward depth to compete at a high level when their top players get injured. -
Seems strange that you would make that statement about our leading goal scorer, who is paid half as much.

Nashville is offering 1st+Laasko+Wilson+Ellis+Lindback for Nash. Talk about becoming a big spender. https://twitter.com/#!/DennisTFP/status/174146467659923456 -
Quite a bold prediction considering the lack of reality involved in it. 18 points in 12 games in 2010. 23 points in 23 games in 2009. His one off year since 2008? The same year he was nursing an injury sustained during the playoffs. Remind me why he will be expected to be a non-factor, again?

I would love Holland to make any kind of trade just to shut you up. -
And would have made a long term commitment to a player who was not only a one year rental, but who had issues scoring in the playoffs (something that Chicago didn't have to worry about in 2010) and would not only missed half the 2010 season due to rehab, but would also be a potential risk due to other injuries. It isn't like Hossa was an easy choice.

You aren't being serious, are you?

Wind got knocked out of him.

Franzen, no matter the work ethic, is not a 50 goal scorer. He has the shot, but not the other talents to pull it off.
-
For starters, it is NEIL. Not Neal. Second, that hit made me hurt.
-
I'll be waiting while you figure out a way to replicate his production with him out of the lineup, lack of effort or not.

Wolski to the Panthers for what looks like a third round pick at the moment. They are pushing for Nash big time. -

Put Franzen in. He needs more things to be bashed for.

Because he is overrated offensive garbage. No idea why people assume he is so valuable despite his play. He has been a terrible disappointment for the Kings. -

I think people are overvaluing Detroit's first round pick, here. Quincey is a young defenseman who can help Detroit this season, fetch a low price during the offseason, and possibly get us a couple picks in compensation if someone else decides to throw an offer sheet. Not to mention Stuart may not be here next season and Lidstrom will either be getting marginally worse or retire. Doesn't hurt to have options. -
