So a guy like Corey Perry should be deterred because May is fighting one of the other team's tough guys? How many people have ran Detroit's goaltender when Franzen is on the ice in relation to when Brad May is on the ice? Do you have any statistics to bring to the table? So the deterrent is having the fourth line guys fight other fourth line guys. Okay. I guess Detroit got some momentum against Tampa with that fight? Or did Tampa? Or maybe it was equal momentum? There is a difference between telling some random fourth liner "hey wanna go?" during a game and getting into a bout with a guy who ran your player or is giving you cheap shots. Sure maybe even if your team is down and you want to stick up for yourself. Not in a tie game in the first ******* period.

No. That has history. They are number one.

What a new and interesting thread! Also I don't care if there are goons in the lineup provided they don't do staged bulls*** fights like May was involved in last game. Completely worthless fight.

Wings on pace for 105 points with a $33 million roster...
Doc Holliday replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
The point is it is silly to say "I feel more comfortable with Howard in net than Osgood" when that SHOULD be the case considering the teams each of them play. Osgood hasn't looked great but he has been trusted to play against the best teams. Howard has looked solid, and is the man to play against the lower tier teams. -

Nashville is ahead of us in the Central race (tied with Chicago in points), New Jersey is sitting on top of the Atlantic Division (ahead of Pittsburgh), Calgary is leading the Northwest, etc. etc. etc. Don't forget Osgood started against Washington and Chicago in the beginning of the season. -

Look at the teams they have both played for. It is a lot easier to be confident in your goaltender when he is facing weaker competition. I think Howard has been doing great as a backup, but it isn't like he is Terry Sawchucking the league's best teams. -

Doesn't hurt that Howard is playing against all of the sub-500 teams while Osgood has been starting against the playoff teams. -
The Wild are on FIREEEE!!!

I doubt that Babs cares. This was not Detroit's regular season considering the rash of injuries the team has sustained. -
Probably as good a chance as Osgood has to make team Canada.
-
Bingo. There is a difference between a PROJECT and a PROSPECT.

How many games has he played so far? I think he has as much confidence as he is gonna get playing against the weaker teams in the NHL.

Gordie, Mac hauled his man down to the ice. Bertuzzi grabbed his man, punched him in the side of the head, then used his other arm to push his head into the ice. "Honor" is irrelevant because that is not what is meant to be compared. The only comparison is how they did it, and Bert's was much more vicious and dangerous than Mac's was. Also who even started the conversation about the Claude incident anyways? It has no bearing on the original discussion.

I would really appreciate it if Babcock gave Howard some starts against good (even great) teams for once. I think he has earned it.

Excellent Borat reference. -
They were punches. The same kind of punches Datsyuk threw on Gary Roberts in the 08 finals. Weak and with the gloves still on, but punches nonetheless. Dildos? Come on, you are a married man. Lets tone down that kind of language. Sorry that I chose to respond to your comment instead? Not everyone is going to respond to everyone else. It happens on a message board with a reasonable amount of activity.

The context was quite clear. You believe that Downey's hits are more punishing than Kronwalls, and that players would be more afraid of Aaron Downey when it comes to getting hit than Nicklas Kronwall. Personally I would think they would be more afraid of Brad Stuart, but I digress. Kronwall has the reputation for throwing big body checks on players. Crushing open ice body checks. Whether you as a fan thinks they hit or not is irrelevant. That is going to affect a player much more than the guy who is bigger but doesn't necessarily have the reputation for hits, and plays fourth line minutes.

Yeah I guess two shots to the side of Forsberg's head was him trying to hug his face and missing. Also once again the two situations are not comparable. There is a reason Moore broke his neck and Lemieux did not.
-
Miller may be doing well on the ice, but he is a goddamn liar. "Zetterberg will be back." WHAT A LIAR!
-
Why ignore the Havlat hit when it is one of the hits he has made? I'm sure players are thinking "Nicklas Kronwall? He's no Aaron Downey." when they see Kronwall step on the ice. What a joke of a hitter.

Just because you know I'm right doesn't mean you need to start jumping on the Floyd bangwagon.

Wow this is amazing, really. For starters, Mac grabbed whoever that was an hauled him to the ice. He did not punch him in the side of the head then slam his face into the ice. Secondly, if you drink and drive and get into an accident, your punishment is going to depend on the kind of damage you do. If you kill a person, you are going to be charged with a hell of a lot more than if you simply give them some cuts and bruises. That's how life works, and in every single form of justice, the end result depends on how harshly you are punished. Completely different scenarios.

Someone's mad. Did I even say that? -
I don't think Detroit players are dumb enough to have their eyes gouged out by Howe-lite.

That's strange, I didn't know our first and second powerplay had names.
