I don't think I've ever seen someone make that gesture without it meaning distaste with a play or referee. Simply because he is falling during the process doesn't change it from "complaint" to "dive". Also I don't understand the logic that he can risk injury while falling in a dive but can't risk injury while falling in a complaint to the referee.

Please show me a dive on that video that compares to the Abdelkader "dive". If you are of the opinion that he could have stayed on his feet and kept playing, we can agree to disagree. If not, you need to explain how you think him raising his arms in the air to signify distaste with a play is a dive. He was most likely contesting the fact Mac threw a pick which mainly got him in the head. You can miss a guy and still piss them off for assumed intent.

Hey. Watch the UFC. It's a growing sport and I think you would definitely enjoy it.
-
Well I hope you get up in arms whenever someone protests a play or call from now on, because that is what you consider a "mockery of the sport." And word-prick? Grow up.
-
It wasn't a flop either. He got knocked off balance and put his arms up in protest. The only reason it can be considered embellishment is because him trying to get the referee's attention on a weak hit. Sorry, not a dive.

He was knocked off balance and put his hands in the air in protest at having interference run on him and/or getting hit in the head. It's not a dive, at all. If you want to argue embellishment that is fine, but there is no way you can think he dove from that.

He didn't dive. Sorry.

Would be terribly ironic if Brunnstrom ends up getting a regular job here. Good on him. Hope he works out.

From my experience it has only been waived when the offensive player has a sizeable lead. Ties go to the defending skater.

In Div III College they have a hybrid icing rule, where if the player can negate the icing they wave it off. They could incorporate that to keep players from getting drilled chasing for it but allow players to beat the icing call.

For starters, it is much easier to maintain those buildings than composite structures like Tiger Stadium and Joe Louis. Second, the Joe is surrounded by highways, without any sort of pre-game or post-game activities. It needs to be put in a more prime location to promote business and activity in the downtown area. Third, the Coliseum and Sistine Chapel are historic relics for many different reasons. Hell, there are other buildings in Detroit that are much more important to keep standing than the Tiger Stadium. It is unfortunate we will lose the great sightlines that we have now, but there will need to be a new arena in the future. It just needs to happen.

Is it really that big of a deal?
-
Shocked that he would say that.

I just think there is so much attention being put onto it now that it appears as if there are more. I doubt players came into the preseason, knowing they were looking more closely at headshots, and thought it would be a good idea to aim for people's heads.

Just another monstrosity the NHL wants to sell to the fans. I think the bigger insult is they are charging 160 bucks for a non authentic jersey with screen-printed numbers.
-
The problem is figure skating doesn't even compare to hockey, except for the fact both sports are on the ice. If you are going to argue for fighting that's fine. But you are belittling the sport itself to defend an aspect of it you enjoy.

You really think this is comparable to the UFC analogy?

9/30 Exhibition GDT: Toronto Maple Leafs at Red Wings
Doc Holliday replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Who in the hell negs the OP of a GDT? -
I'd rather not the Wings play. It would make the 2009 game feel much more special if that was the only time they were involved in the classic. And there are other teams that should be showcased. The event is going to make oodles of money regardless.
-
Remember when Victor Stalberg lead the league in points a couple preseasons ago?
-
Maybe we should make a sticky with frequently asked questions and such instead of having people ask the same questions each year. Win win.

Datsyuk's assist on Kronwalls goal if anyone is interested: Amazing he only has to look once to know where the best pass is, where that target is going to be, and how to get it through at the right time. -
After seeing who made this thread, my first instinct SHOULD have been to chuckle and go on my merry way. Instead I was about ready to say "Really? You've followed the team on this forum HOW LONG?!?!" My cynicism is getting the best of me.

This is the most positive I've seen the boards after a loss. Am I in the wrong forum? -

Yeah, apparently Malkin skating around Wings players who pass the puck to each other is "terrorizing".
