You are right. It was probably Johan Franzen.
-
When you talk about being able to afford him as well as sign a full roster, they can't do it. They won't give up on all of their players like Gill and the K brothers just to sign an offensive powerhouse (which would go against their entire team philosophy anyway). I'm not even sure they could afford him even if they could sign the rest of their roster to bare minimum contracts.
-
We just forget that Franzen broke out when Datsyuk and Zetterberg potted 90+ points and the team was stacked like no other. Now that it is basically a less elite Datsyuk, a top 6 but not elite Zetterberg (arguably), Franzen, and Filpulla to lead the team on offense, his mistakes on the offensive end are magnified. If Detroit signs Parise our top 6 players get a lot more space to do what they want. The only reason the second line with Zetterberg and Filppula worked was because Fil broke out in a way most of us probably weren't expecting. Detroit does need a top sixer, though.
-
Yeah, I guess we will be stuck with his 25-30 goals in the meantime and the cap space to sign another top 6 player.
-
You said they could afford it. They can't.
-
Anaheim will not trade Perry. Especially not to Detroit.
-
To sign 12 players.... I suppose if you signed a bunch of guys to minimum contracts to keep guys like Gill and both Kostitsyns it could work. But there is no way the Predators will be seriously in on Parise.
-
Yes, I'm sure plenty of GMs will be chomping at the bit to get the rights of a UFA.
-
Which teams, other than Detroit, can guarantee consistent success and bids to the playoffs? Detroit is a promising destination no matter what the naysayers think.
-
Datsyuk is god, Franzen sucks, and Bertuzzi sucks. That will pretty much sum up this thread.
-
If I was Yzerman I would jump on that trade immediately. A choking goaltender is much better than no goaltender.
-
Same tired jokes, different season. No originality when it comes to bashing Detroit.
-
Does that mean Detroit gets to keep playing in the playoffs?
-
Did you just combine two different phrases?

Who do you blame for this unsuccessfully playoff run

Take a chill pill. Was Detroit really hurting at the dot up until the trade deadline? -
Shanahan didn't suspend McSorely.

My spirit has been broken this season. I will not root for anyone for the first time in my fandom. And it's all the Red Wings' fault.

How many times are you going to complain about getting negged? As someone who has been here since the rep system was put in place, you should know how meaningless it is. -

If you don't think a player capable of 30 (or close to it) goals isn't awesome secondary scoring (secondary being the key word you chose to omit in bold), I don't know what to tell you. -
Holland's cup in 2008 was not because of Scotty Bowman. Jim Nill will probably not take over the reigns and Yzerman is in Tampa. Neither of those are realistic choices (don't forget Yzerman as GM had a 60 goal scorer on his roster this season and still couldn't find a way into the playoffs).
-
Astute comparison. It's amazing the amount of success the team has had with such an albatross of a GM for so long. And before you say it, no I'm not implying Holland shouldn't be criticized for moves the past few years and for actions he may make or not make in the offseason. But honestly, I can't think of many GMs in the NHL who are much better than Holland, let alone any who are available. Most GMs that are having successes right now have had the virtue of high talent in draft picks (Even the all-mighty Polie was able to get all of Weber, Suter, Radulov, Rinne, among others with high draft picks). The fact is it will continue to be harder and harder for this team to be successful without finding high-talent drafted players, especially now that Hakan Andersson has much more competition than years past in Europe. Touche.

I think Hal Gill pretty much won Nashville the series. -

That's nice, but pretty much misses the point. -
I'd love to see who you'd think would be good to replace him.

Man won't it be such a let down for you if Holland actually does something.
