If you guys have been watching the NHL network (the channel completely dedicated to NHL hockey), they have been doing that in spades. Stamkos, Parise, Getzlaf, Cammalleri, St. Louis, Philly, etc. HBO is not the NHL, and it was THEIR decision to focus on the two teams leading up to the winter classic. To be upset that HBO has dedicated TWO specials to NHL events (the Broad Street Bullies were the first last year) in recent history gives you an indication the NHL might be doing something right. And if you look at NHL.com right now, there are two main stories about the Wings (one of highlights) and a Devils preview. I have a subscription to NHL home ice (XM radio for 3 bucks a month) and they go across the board with different teams.

He played well but he let in four goals and the first against him was stoppable. Not a big deal considering it is the pre-season. I'm just happy to see an Osgood that plays really solid like tonight. I don't think anyone was saying that. Get your head out of your ass.

He looked confident out there, of course with a bunch of AHLers (and Bertuzzi) out there it isn't that hard to stand out. Hopefully he has a good regular season.

Pretty good. First goal was stoppable, but the second was off a 4 on 2. He has made some quality saves but has also looked like he can't find his balance, either. Much better than what we saw 6 months ago.

Yeah defensive coverage and positioning has been awful this game. Ericsson trying to pinch on a guy who has speed and the puck. Smith (?) completely missing the puck and allowing Hossa to get a path to the net. Stuart getting undressed by Kane. Bad bad defensive game so far.

I think he is learning from Jimmy.

Bettman ruined this league! He fixes Penguins games! He hates the Wings! GET HIM!! No, you probably aren't. Personally I have neither respect nor disdain for the guy since he is only one member of a very large organization.

All I'm saying is it seems stupid for the first game to put your captain with a bunch of nobodies (and Brett Lebda). At least put something respectable out there. I think Leafs fans deserve that much, at least.

Makes sense to put all of your scrubs with your captain to all share a merciless beat-down on the first ever game of the season for your fans who for the past year and a half have been told about how things are going to change in the Leafs franchise. Word, yo.

He was gliding into the hit. He took one or two steps after he committed to going after the guy. Forechecking in itself is not charging.

I think this might work. Stuart and Lidstrom are the best defensive defensemen on the team, and Kronwall and Rafalski had some defensive issues last year. Spreading the wealth might actually be a great plan.

Watch them win the cup this year. Luongo obviously couldn't handle the captaincy and his play and demeanor suffered because of it. He should have a much better year because of this.
