Probably because he won't have to face up against quality d-men like Bourque, Leetch, MacInnis, Chelios, etc. at such an early age.
-
It is 99% certain the Kings are going to get Doughty signed before or during Free Agency. Doesn't mean I can't dream of Detroit getting him anyway.

Steve Downie re-signs with Lightning
Doc Holliday replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
Good for Tampa. Downie has definitely worked out for them. If the cap hit is low this will be a very good signing. 1.85 mil cap hit? Well done, Stevie. And he is an RFA after the contract expires. Very well done. -
Stanley Cup, 2011? Looking forward to seeing how Drew Doughty does next year.
-
This is a perfect example of "what have you done for me lately?" You ignore the Stanley Cup win and Stanley Cup final because he had his first losing season IN HIS CAREER with a team that was not only injured, but based on coaching decisions defferred to Howard for most of the season.
-
I never said he wasn't playing more than once every two months the entire season. I said when he was playing more than once every two months (which was hyperbole) he showed capability in the backup position. Just because he was rusted on the bench half the season doesn't mean he will be piss-poor in the next couple years. And considering he has one more year on his contract I would say your salutations to Osgood are a bit premature, no?
-
That is not relevant to the point I'm making.
-
Yes because Osgood didn't show he could do that when he was actually playing more than once every two months.
-
You wouldn't take Osgood as a veteran backup for league minimum?
-
This guy is going to be clutch in the playoffs. Cannot wait.

Harold, the reason people got into an 8 page argument was because a certain poster said that the asham signing sucked, that he would have been a "terrific" addition, and that this was comparable to signing Williams last year when we could have had Prospal or Grier. In my opinion this isn't even close to any of those things.
-
I never said Modano would be great here.
-
I don't understand why you consider the Wings to require a shutdown line considering Babcock matches up his top lines against the opposition's most nights.
-
My point was the poster I was responding to has no reason to cite empty seats in Detroit when the team still makes a s*** ton of money. Chicago still isn't there yet, regardless of increase in sales (Which is a given considering Chicago is a big city, the team just won a cup, and they are finally getting consistent advertising out there for a change).

Detroit's main issue last season was with depth scoring and special teams play. I think Detroit addressed that in the offseason, and I don't think signing Asham would have been a huge improvement on the bottom six either way. If Bertuzzi wasn't on the roster having Helm on the third line wouldn't have put us in a bad position when it came to strong forechecking on weaker lines. And for the record, Detroit's 2009 team was dominant with skilled third liners. The only issue was select defensive gaffes, certain stars not performing to their potential, and injuries to key players which did them in.
-
How much more would Asham do than the 4th line options we already have? And how much better is he that you had such a problem with him not being signed here. For the record: He was signed in mid-August at a bit over league minimum salary. What does that tell you about how valuable he was to teams around the league?
-
It's not like he had an "amazing" playoff. Like I said, it's a depth signing and is not a big deal since Detroit isn't in dire need to get a guy like him.
-
Because Eaves, Abdelkader, or other prospects don't fight?
-
Our fourth line has energy. We have Abdelkader and Eaves, among others. It's not like we have a fourth line of cowards on the team and need someone like Asham for it to stay afloat. This is a single fourth line guy who honestly would not improve the team a hell of a lot over what he would replace. Nothing to freak out about.
-
Because signing a minimum wage fourth liner is something we need to get upset about? This is what I find hillarious about some people here. They make such a fizzy about a fourth liner.
-
Pisani is an injury prone PK specialist/former playoff performer and has been getting worse since 2007. Eaves and Miller are healthy regular season 4th line players with more offensive upside and if I'm not mistaken either can play the PK. I don't like that both were signed but if I had to choose either of those two or Pisani I would choose the former.
-
I still don't see how this contract is any better than either of the Miller/Eaves contracts.
-
He was 25th of 33 players in that category. And only played half the season. All I'm saying is Pisani's value is at an all time low, so I don't think of this signing as anything more than a long shot to bring back a guy who once had a great playoff performance at a dirt cheap price.
-
His best season was in 06 where he scored 18 goals and 37 points. Since then his production and games played have steadily gone down. Last season he was a -16 in 40 games, a career worst. This guy is a bargain buy. Nothing much to see from this signing, good or bad.

The single biggest scapegoat of the Red Wings in the last 20+ years...

Jimmy hasn't cleared his name yet, has he?
