I was thinking more like Area 87. I'm not saying they've been told to "make sure the Penguins win", like the other guy said that couldn't happen without even casual observers seeing it. However in a close series a little overprotection of Fleury (and Crosby), being not quite as observant when the time's right and a little over observant the other way could influence the outcome. Don't forget Dallas's cup winning goal in 99 came on what was at the time a flat out horrendous call. I dunno. I've just never seen a such lopsided coverage. It's one thing to believe that one team really is favored that much. It's quite another to cheer for them before the series even starts.

You really think were going to see more of this after the attention it's gotten? BTW, I'm a huge Wings fan and am fervently praying for us to win, but it does us no good to view things from a blindly biased standpoint. After you read this touch your own eyeball. Just touch it and then tell me that a grown man skating into somebody's stick that's been put in the path of his face is no big deal. I do not believe Osgood was trying to blind the guy, but what he did was dangerous and potentially injurious not to mention irresponsible. Everybody would be saying that if it were Turco and one of our players.

BTW, I totally agree that we SHOULD IN NO WAY retaliate for this. That would be foolish and if it cost us a win somehow we will have played right into their hands.

The more I looked at and thought about this the more I began to think they would treat them as equal offences. In other words either suspend both or neither. Since it was our starting goaltender and their top points getter they figured it was better to let both play. Looked at from their point of view what Osgood did could have cost Ribeiro an eye though it didn't look as blatant. I don't think they thought they could credibly get away with treating one as worse than the other. Given the choice I'd much rather see this than both suspended. Send em to the golf course in front of their fans with no excuses. Wouldn't you rather beat them without having to hear about how they didn't have Ribeiro? And does anybody prefer to see Dom in net at this point?

I took the trouble to put together an animated gif of the sequence where Ozzie clips Ribeiro as he's going by and there's no question it was high with the butt of the stick and it was intentional. He clearly moves up and into Ribeiro while angling the stick toward his face. He may not have entirely went for the face, but he definitely was trying to hit him with his stck. http://gregnmary.gotdns.com/pix/oz_reb.gif That said, everybody agrees that Ribeiro's response was uncalled for and illegal. The undeniable provocation will undoubtedly influence Campbell's thought process when making his decision though. What scares me is that they COULD view Ozzie's action as an intent to injure as well though I doubt it. We'll see what happens. I just want to be as objective as possible and anybody who says they wouldn't want Turco examined if it were the other way around is lying.
