OK guys, where are they now? Gretzky fans are not necessarily hockey fans as evinced by the fact that post Gretzky they are gone. Nothing I've said is meant to slight Gretzky or Crosby. It doesn't last. People ***** about half ass fans, but that's all that's ever made by individual star players. I'd like to see more mainstream coverage of HOCKEY because people want to see HOCKEY for HOCKEY's sake. I've already said I like Crosby and do recognize his immense talent, but he is not the only jaw droppingly great player in the league. Knowledgeable fans already know that and most other people who's attention he'll grab will disappear when he does. Look at the abysmal ratings for even the Cup finals just about any year we aren't in it. They don't care about hockey. I should also say that I'm not even saying that my feelings should drive coverage, I'm just saying as a hockey fan who already knows who and what Crosby is, I'm tired of hearing about the guy .

What did Gretzky actually do for hockey? There are now a whole lot of people who know Wayne Gretzky was the greatest player in a sport they still don't watch.

I actually think the opposite as far as mainstream marketability is concerned. It makes the NHL sound like all they have to offer the public is one young superstar in a game none of them cares about anyway. As reprehensible as it is to us it's hockey they don't get and an army of Crosbys, or anybody else, isn't going to make fans of the overwhelmingly vast majority of non fans.

I'm surprised it wasn't reported that Sydney Crosby would've landed on his feet and scored the empty netter.

This is close to what I was going to say except that I don't know how dumb the move was overall. I'd rather kill a 2 minute penalty on a night when the opposition PP was non existent than face a determined Gaborik alone. Hasek wasn't trying to hurt anybody. He's just a goofball full of unconventional style and it showed.

OK, but in TSN's power rankings he's second for centers and 9th overall. However imagine what that might be like if he were on our team. I just don't believe any flesh n blood man that has been or ever will be born is as astronomically stupendous as he's being made out to be. There are even players right now, arguably, that are better albeit not by much.

Some of you guys get my point. He IS an amazing young player and does deserve a lot of attention as well as having the baby face and the right type of name for mainstream marketing. The game hadn't even started last night and you would've thought that Sydney Crosby was going to be the only player on the ice and certainly the only one worth watching. I don't like the fact that I do like the guy and the hype is subconciously pushing me into cheering against him and the Penguins. I catch myself hoping he'll flub a play or commit a giveaway that leads to a goal or something just for some balance, but even that would probably be spun as some ingenious plan to give the opponent false confidence or something. One player isn't going to save the ratings anyway. People just don't like hockey like they do other sports. That fact utterly mystifies me, but it is a fact nonetheless.

I actually like the guy. I didn't think it was possible but I believe the practical worship being heaped on his head is overrating him. It's the incessant over the top hype that's getting on my nerves, not Crosby himself.

They had a hot start and have cooled off some, but overall they're having a pretty decent year to this point and are definitely playing below their potential tonight. Although the Wings are becoming a well oiled machine which accounts for some of this one sidedness.

i though Miller did alright. He's is a bit enamored with Gretzky and Crosby. Scotty is a class act and looks to be in fine form. We should be grateful to have him on our side. A hidden weapon to be sure. I figured it'd be fun to throw it up there.
