I just hope one day after he reitres he comes back as a D coach maybe a few years after taking a break he will get the itch to get back like most greats do, come back and help out/teach guys like Kindl,Smith and other young guys we will have in the line up. if the Cap goes up by 2 mill maybe something like this would be ok. Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) * Tomas Holmstrom ($2.125m) / * Todd Bertuzzi ($1.650m) / Kris Draper ($1.583m) * Justin Abdelkader ($1.000m) / * Darren Helm ($0.899m) / * Adam Burish ($0.775m) Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) * Carlo Coliacovo ($1.555m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood ($1.417m) / Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion) ROSTER: 22; CAP: $56.8m; PAYROLL: $58.384m; CAP ROOM: $-1.584m BONUSES: $0.000m Franzen-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Hudler-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Cleary-Filppula-Abdelkader Burish-Draper-Helm or Bursih-Helm-Ritola (Draper subs) Ritola Stuart-Rafalski Lidstrom-Kronwall Coliacovo-Ericcson Kindl Howard Osgood

May 30, 2010 // 11:34am ET Maltby finished in Detroit? TheFourthPeriod.com According to the Edmonton Journal, veteran Red Wings forward Kirk Maltby might not be returning to Detroit next season. Maltby, 37, is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and even though he doesn't make significant dollars, he understands he isn't the team's top priority. "There is only so much money to go around. I'm sure it'll be Nick (Lidstrom), then (Tomas Holmstrom) ... a lot of pieces have to fall into place after that. It's a grey picture right now," Maltby told the Journal. Maltby, a four-time Stanley Cup champion, has played 1,072 NHL games, most of which with the Wings. Maltby's future in Detroit likely rests with how much money Lidstrom re-signs for. Despite all the questions surrounding the defenseman's future, Maltby expects him to return. "I would be surprised if Nick stepped away. It'll just be a matter of the terms with Nick. It's not like he's lost a step or there's any one aspect of his game that has fallen by the wayside. I would be hard-pressed to find anything like that," said Maltby.

maybe read all posts ?! just an idea "The News, however, does suggest the Wings could go after a depth forward, with Atlanta Thrashers forward Colby Armstrong linked as a possibility". Armstrong plays a way tougher game then Eaves does to. Figure it out....! -

I understand that im just saying i would much rather have Armstrong over Burish/Nystrom or Winchester, but if we werent bringing back Eaves im am 100% down for bringing in one of them my choice would be Burish. I would love for this to happen. Franzen-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Hudler-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Cleary-Filppula-Armstrong Bursih-Abdlekader-Helm -

Abby,Helm,Eaves would be a perfectly fine 4th line they all can chip in with points plus there all fast and like to hit, i do like the idea of Burish in but i would be happy with the 4th line of eaves, abby, helm, and i would rather have Helm,Abby,Eaves go out there and run someone over then have another guy drop the gloves. Franzen-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Hudler-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Cleary-Filppula-Armstrong Eaves-Abdelkader-Helm ( this line would draw alot of PP with the speed and hitting they would be doing) Like i said i think this line-up would be great for next season, 3 lines that can produce points and a speedy 4th line that could probably dominate alot of other teams 4th lines. But Burish would be a nice fill in if Eaves doesnt come back -

I dont think when kenny says gritty he means fights, i think he means a guy that finishes his checks every shift punishes the D on the dump in. which i would much rather have a guy that hits and makes other players feel pain every shift then i guy that sits on the bench most of the game then in the box for 5 min, Armstrong will fight not very good but will, and he is DEFINTLY a BIG hitter. Plus he can put up points to. (57 sec'ish) -

May 31, 2010 // 9:53am ET Wings unlikely to have busy summer TheFourthPeriod.com Don't expect Red Wings GM Ken Holland to go after a number of big-name free agents this summer (SHOCKER LOL ), reports the Detroit News. According to the paper, the Wings will be relatively quiet this summer, outside of trying to re-sign their own free agents, like Nicklas Lidstrom, Tomas Holmstrom, Todd Bertuzzi and Kirk Maltby. The Wings have already re-added Jiri Hudler, who spent this past season in Russia and will give the team some extra scoring punch. The Edmonton Journal reported this weekend that Maltby may not be brought back, and the veteran forward understands the team may have other priorities. "There is only so much money to go around. I'm sure it'll be Nick (Lidstrom), then (Tomas Holmstrom) ... a lot of pieces have to fall into place after that. It's a grey picture right now," Maltby told the Journal. The News, however, does suggest the Wings could go after a depth forward, with Atlanta Thrashers forward Colby Armstrong linked as a possibility. At least maybe Colby Armstrong that would be sweet! -
All i know is if Lids signs for anything more then 5.5 i dont see the Wings going that far into the playoffs if they actually make it. The team we had this year was one of the worst in a long time, we need way more scoring depth and if Lids signs that high i dont see any more help coming in.

I dont think Kenny would do that, the only problem with that is you could potentially pay Maltby to much and no body wants to take that contract on or you sign him to cheap and someone defintly takes him and it helps them out with the Cap -

With the Cap you cant be giving guys 1yr top dollar anymore especially in what would be probably his last year Holland IMO should offer him the most he can but with money left over to spend so like 5 mill for Lids and the 2.5 go out and bring in someone else to help. I really hope Lids does take like 4-5.5 mill just to shut everyone up on here saying he wont take less then 6, if he doesnt take less then 6 ill gladly appologize to all that i have disagreed with.
-
Not going to lie if Lids take 6mill or more knowing the Wings are tight against the cap im going to lose a little respect for the guy, and it will show why YZERMAN is the one and only TRUE captain of the Wings. Pros and Cons of taking a big paycut Pros His rep with fans will sky rocket. Will show the team that he is willing to do whatever to win. A HUGE chance at adding another ring. Cons Lose a few million dollars. Now if i was Lids i can honeslty say i would take a big cut to get that last ring. I just hate when people say he wont make less then Rafalski, well thats managements fault for giving Rafalski that kinda cheese. Lids just seems like the type of guy that would take the cut to me and im sure Kenny is going to tell him some of the Pros i said when they talk i honestly thing Lids is going to sign a 1yr 4-5.5 mill. not sure how bonuses work in the NHL but if its like the NFL id give Lids 1yr 4mill and if they make it back to the Cup 2mill bonus or something

at least he is scrappy lol -
I agree that Stevie wasnt the best but still one of the best, but hopefully Lids has the quality in him like Stevie had which was to take that pay cut at the chance to win another Cup, and Lids must know signing a 1yr-6mill contract with pretty much that same roster isnt going to get him that ring.
