And how many years was Lebderp a starter? Just because Emmerton was a starter the last two years, it doesn't mean he'll be one next season. His status in 2013-14 is going to depend entirely on the health of one Darren Helm. If Helmer's ready to go, Emmerton is what you would call expendable. That's especially true if the Wings no longer value him for his position as much as the last two seasons with Sheahan & Ferraro due for their cup of coffee in the bigs next season if injuries do happen.

He was considered day-to-day at the end of the Chicago series. Unless he does actually end up requiring surgery in the off season, I would doubt that he wouldn't be ready to go at the start of camp ergo eligible for compliance buy out.

I would say right now the Wings have 13 pretty much locked in, 14 if Sammy isn't bought out (which I think he will be): Under contract: Dats, Hank, Mule, Bert, Abby, Helm, Miller, Eaves, Tootoo, Tatar, Emmerton, Sammy RFAs that will be signed: Nyquist, Andersson I could see Kenny signing both Brunner & Cleary yet, seeing who plays their way into a spot in camp, & either trading/waiving those that don't, most likely a combination of Cleary, Emmerton, Tootoo, or Eaves. It's a numbers game at this point & if those salary/length demands from Flip are accurate, there's just no way those numbers make sense for the Wings.

The one they should make illegal is the Patrick Kane "Come to a complete stop & stick handle for 2 minutes" move

If it's the same process used in the accelerated buyouts allowed before the start of this season, the player has to pass thru waivers before the buyout is done. Once the buyout's complete, they immediately become a UFA & are only restricted from returning to their former team.

Andersson & a healthy Helm next season makes Flip totally expendable if he still wants $5m+ a year.
