WCSF Game 2 GDT : Red Wings 4 at Blackhawks 1 - (Series Tied at 1)

NBC has a quota on the minimum number of Toews comments that have to be made during a broadcast.

Which is just horse s***. The excuse given for Babs never being in consideration for years has been the loaded line-ups he had in Detroit. Ultimately though, I guess it's better to know you have the best coach in the league and not need a bunch of clueless broadcasters tell you who it is.

    Babs confident Datsyuk will stay

Axe, a little education goes a long way. Per terms of the CBA, a new contract can't be negotiated & signed until the player is in the last year of his contract. That means that nothing can be done until July 1st of this year. Stop with this crap that the deal is already done because there is absolutely zero chance that it's true.

    Babs confident Datsyuk will stay

I highly doubt it will be a 7 year deal if he re-signs. He's going to be 35 in July & to do a 7 year contract at this point would be ridiculous.

    Official Franzen VS Hossa

A couple of things working against a trade. The team Hossa is traded to would be subjected to cap recapture for any remaining years where his salary was greater than his cap hit & the Blackhawks would still face recapture for the years Hossa was on their roster. Granted they would reduce their exposure with a trade but it wouldn't eliminate it. The only way to eliminate carrying cap consequences for Hossa is that he plays for the entire length of the contract, traded or not, or they use an amnesty buy out on him which is the only way to truly guarantee it. I would think the fact that his cap recapture follows him in a trade would end up reducing the return the Blackhwaks would get for him.

    Official Franzen VS Hossa

Call it $17.5-18.775m once he buys out Sammy & Cola or Sammy & Quincey.

    Official Franzen VS Hossa

Pretty sure that's incorrect. Players need to go through waivers before teams can buy them out. Once the buy out is complete, the player immediately becomes a UFA.

    Official Franzen VS Hossa

Actual cap info for the 2009-10 season. Where exactly would Hossa's $5m+ cap hit have fit with this team? (rounding cap #s) Datsyuk: $6.7m Zetterberg: $6.08m Franzen: $4m Filppula: $3m Cleary: $2.8m Holmstrom: $2.25m Draper: $1.6m Bertuzzi: $1.5m Williams: $1.5m Maltby: $900k Helm: $600k Leino: $530k Abdelkader: $520k Eaves: $500k Miller: $413k May: $330k Lidstrom: $7.45m Rafalski: $6m Stuart: $3.75m Kronwall: $3m Lilja: $1.25m Ericsson: $900k Lebda: $650k Meech: $483k Osgood: $1.4m Howard: $716k Spending: $58,827,920 Cap limit: $56,800,000 LTIR credit: $2,027,920 FYI, I left off players with an actual cap hit of less than 50% of their max hit during the season like callups (Kindl, Larsson), waived (Ritola), or traded for at the deadline and never played. Official Franzen VS Hossa

That's a big NOPE. I suggest you read up on the new CBA. There's a provision that's been affectionately called the Roberto Luongo Rule which is for penalizing teams that signed players to long term (7 years or more), back diving deals. If a player retires before the term of the contact is up, the cap benefit (the excess of salary over actual cap hit in years it was greater) is counted against the cap equaly over the remaining years of the contract if the player retires or jumps to a different league before the contract is up. In Hossa's case, the Blackhawks benefit is only realizing a cap hit of $5.275m a year for the first 7 years of the contract while paying Hossa $7.9m in actual salary. That means if Hossa retires before the end of the 2020-21 season when he's 42 years old, the Blackhawks have $18.375m in cap hit they have to take in equal measure over the remaining years of the contract. If it's 2 seasons, that a cap hit of ~$9.2m. And yes, the same rule applies to Mule, Hank, & Kronner who have cap benefits of $8.3m, $12.9m, & $4.5m respectively. Where it's a little easier to swallow in the Wings' case is that none of them are signed through the age of 42 though. Really good tool if you don't want to run the numbers manually: http://www.capgeek.com/recapture-calculator/?player_id=291&player_submit=on

    Official Franzen VS Hossa

Question for everyone who thinks Kenny should have signed Hossa to the same/similar contract that he got from Chicago: How comfortable would you be having a cap hit of ~$4.6m a year on the books for 4 years starting in the 2017-18 season until the contract's end when Hossa retires after the 2016-17 season at the age of 38? Or lets say he does make it to 40. That would mean a ~$9.2m a season cap hit in 2019-20 & 2020-21. That's what Chicago is facing which is why he's a good buy out candidate in the off season.

Any tips on ways to tolerate the NBC media?

Wasn't it last season that Edzo let out a disgusted audible sigh on the air when the Wings beat his Hawks in OT on the NBC Game of the Week? Been looking around for the clip but haven't been able to find it. I think that says it all as far as his bias goes. He's gotten bad enough where I actually don't mind Pierre is talking 'cause that means I don't have to hear Edzo.

Doc might DRIVE! to your house & waffle board you in the face if he saw this. (So am I the only one who listens to Doc broadcasting & thinks about him talking like that in everyday life?)

Yes, booze does help. A liquored up game of Edzo Bingo is always fun: http://www.edzobingo.com/
  15. Hank's gonna make up that penalty with an empty netter to seal it....please
  16. Haaaaaaaate that stupid rule. Kill it boys.
  17. I would like to say thank you to the leaders of the planet that Pavel traveled from to play hockey in Detroit. Krypton was it?
  18. Looks like he injured himself going into the boards trying to make a hit
  19. Did Jimmy learn that "knock your own net off its pegs to get a stoppage" thing from Ozzie?
  20. I won't feel comfortable until the Wings open up a 4 goal lead
  21. It's the Sports Pack that's the key, not Center Ice. I'm Center Ice only & no FSD for me right now.

    Is Jimmy Howard hurt?

Last I saw, the move was to have Monster & McCollum on the ice for practice to limit the chances of anything happening to Jimmy.
