The trade lockout for the 1st year of the contract applies when the original team matches the offer, so in this case Weber is in Nashville for at least a year.
-
But ultimately, what does it say about your franchise player when your fanchise has done nothing but suck? I could see not wanting to trade a true franchise player to a true rival, but Nash and the supposed rivarlry the Jackets claim to have with the Wings don't count imo.

To summarize what is defined as HRR in the CBA: 1) Regular season & playoff gate receipts 2) Pre-season games 3) Special games with the exception of All-Star games 4) National, International, & National Digital broadcast revenues 5) Revenues from the NHL network 6) Local cable, over-the-air, satellite, & radio broadcasts 7) Club internet 8) Publications 9) In-arena & non-arena novelty sales 10) Concessions 11) Luxury boxes/suites & club/premium seats 12) Fixed signage & arena sponsorships 13) Temporary signage & club sponsorships 14) Dasherboard advertising 15) Parking 16) Other revenues i.e. league sponsored events, sale of game used equipment, sale of special memberships, etc. And based on the legalese in the CBA, you have to assume owners are already playing fast & loose with what is & is not HRR within those categories and that they're going to try to get some of them removed in the next CBA. Not only do they want to reduce the player's share, they want to reduce the size of the pool they play in too.

Essay from a player's perspective: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/story/2012/07/21/spf-labour-dispute-players-perspective-collective-bargaining-agreement.html Interesting read

Last I saw was that they got nearly $20m in revenue sharing last season. Edit: That $20m may be high though. Have found the full share for 2010 & that was $10m. Probably above that last season but not double.
-
What they should actually address is teams taking revenue sharing kick-backs from the teams that make money going out & dropping huge bucks on free-agents while complaining that salary expenses are too high. I'm looking at you, Craig Liepold.

I think it's pretty clear the owners what the length of contracts addressed along with signing bonuses. Wouldn't surprise me to see the ufa/rfa structure get readdressed i.e. owners want to raise the age/years of service & adding back the ability to include cash in player trades again.

Red Wings make "helluva" offer for Nash, no response

Well you know, the only reason the Wings won the Cup in 2008 was because of the inspiration of winning it for him. If not for that, the rest of the team didn't give two s***s about winning it right? If only the Wings could roll four lines of Dallas Drake types next season... On the topic at hand though, I do like the looks of Sheahan. Even though he didn't show much offensive spark at ND, which really is a defense first program under Jeff Jackson, I think he's got enough offensive talent to add to his defensive & cycle game to become a very solid 3rd line center. With Helm holding that spot & the Wings tendency to start younger players off with little responsibility, I think it's pretty clear he'll start out his career with the Wings, when it starts, centering the 4th. I personally wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot over Abby, let alone Emmerton, sooner rather than later. For those saying we have more talented players we can put on the wing on the 4th line over Abby, I think the same will be said in the next year or two with the 4th line center position as well.

Seeing the rumors leaked from the Rangers & Canes discussions with Howson & the players he was asking for, I still get the feeling that the 2 NHL proven forwards he would demand from Kenny in a trade for Nash would be Flip & Helm, not Franzen. -
Flyers sign Weber to offer sheet: 14y/$110m ($56m 1st 4yrs)
ogreslayer replied to a topic in General
No need to panic. Just wait a couple years when Phily still hasn't won a Cup, Holmgren starts to get an itchy trigger finger, & looks to trade Weber off.- 469 replies

And we don't really know whether Holland talked to Poile are not, do we? Dreger mentioned that there were "a number of teams" who had talked to Nashville about a trade. Who's to say Kenny didn't inquire? And there we are...- 469 replies

All depends on how much he signs for. If over $8.41m, it would be 4 1st rounders. Figure it will be in the next tier down which would be 2 1st rounders, a 2nd, & a 3rd. And how's that been working out for the Flyers? I would say it hasn't been responsible for winning a Cup, but his moves did manage to win one in LA.- 469 replies

With news leaking out that the Preds were talking to a number of teams about trading Weber, that leads me to believe that he told Poile that he wasn't interested in signing in Nashville long term after they met post-Suter signing. If they match, I wouldn't be surprised that they work out a sign & trade w/ the Flyers yet. I wouldn't say his cap hit would be lower than Suter's yet. The reports are "upwards of $100m". We don't know how much more "upwards" of that mark it is yet.- 469 replies

If Weber does indeed end up as a Flyer, this means one thing... Lilja becomes expendable & ready for another go-around with the Wings- 469 replies

And given the fact that it's now out there that the Preds & Flyers were working on a trade already, I have serious doubts that they'll match. But who knows, maybe Poile gets pissed off that Holmgren basically did an end-around on him with the offer sheet & matches simply out of spite.- 469 replies

Signed Red Wings re-sign Quincey: 2-years, $7.55m total, $3.775/yr
ogreslayer replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
Interested to see what the hit & years are. Slight raise on a 1 year deal so he becomes a UFA at the end of the season is what I'm guessing. Edit: If indeed 2 years, I'm a little surprised given that he would have gotten just 1 year if it got to arbitration. -

And there's no way Holland will ever come out & confirm who was offered up. That would certainly do wonders in the locker room if he did. -

Can't add cash to deals under the current CBA. The reference to Carson, Gelinas, 1st rounders, & cash was what LA traded to Edmonton for Gretzky i.e. joking that Howson thinks he's trading The Great One. -
Should Pav and Z play on the same line for the majority of this season
ogreslayer replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
I think that all depends on Flip's production if he moves back to center. If his offense regresses if they move him off the wing & there's nobody that picks up the slack on the 2nd line, the Wings can't afford to have Z & Pavs together for any extended length of time. -

What did Kenny offer I wonder? Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, 3 first rounders, & $15m in cash? Last I've heard, Howson's asking for 2 NHL proven forwards along with prospects/picks. So what do we think, the offer was Flip, Mule, Nyquist, & next years 1st rounder? -
I think the biggest question right now is whether or not he & his agent understand that he's not worth $6.7m or more a year.
-
From a couple of stories I've seen, Green wants to stay in Washington so I don't see anything happening here. Him rejecting the qualifying offer was more a necessity for negotiations to continue more than him declaring his intention to accept offers from other teams.

I assume you mean Brunner, not Brunnstrom. I think the ship has already sailed on Fabian.
