From what I've seen, the big sticking point will be revenue sharing. Currently, the players get 57% and the owners want it split 50/50 like the NBA just locked in.

So if not Parise, what does everyone think of Kenny going after Semin for the top 6? Personally, I would much rather see Nyquist get a chance over bringing someone with Semin's history of slacking into the mix. Story here: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1183658-washington-capitals-alex-semin-to-be-a-free-agent

That should be Franzen's m.o. every game. Too bad he's not like Brad Richards and gives 2 s***s...

Tatar signed at the age of 18 in September of 2009. He has 5 years until he has to go through waivers which wouldn't be until the 2014-2015 season.
-
Saw another story where Semin's said he wants to go somewhere he can increase the amount of responsibility he takes on including penalty kill time. Semin on the pk? No thank you. As far as signing him on the cheap, I don't see that happening. If he's looking to sign for big responsibilities/big minutes that also means big money. Buyer beware imo. I think ultimately, he'll chase the big money all the way to the KHL. If Kenny can't land Parise, it's time to give one of the youngsters like Nyquist or Tatar a chance instead.

The players had the option to extend the current CBA that ran through the 2010-2011 season by one year only. Obviously they already did that. From NHL.com... So yes, the CBA does expire on 9/15/12. http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26366 EDIT: I stand corrected actually. Unless either party sends notice of termination at least 120 days prior to the CBA expiring, it does remain in effect for the next year. I guess we'll know in a few days if they're going to terminate it. Here's the full CBA: http://www.nhl.com/cba/2005-CBA.pdf

He got the owners their salary cap. He's not going anywhere unless he wants to or if he royally, and I mean ROYALLY, screws something up... Like having his sex tape with Sidney Crosby leaked to the public.

Only the team holding a player's contract rights can negotiate with the player or their representative regardless, so there's no such possibility of Kenny calling up David Poile in Nashville to ask if they can start talking to Suter now. I'm pretty certain that it's against league policy for Kenny to even flat out mention they're going to make an offer to any other team's pending UFA prior to July 1st as it's considered tampering.
-
If Suter signs somewhere else as a UFA, the Pred's get no compensation. If they already know he won't re-sign prior to July 1, they would trade his rights off to another team, probably for a draft pick, which would give that other team exclusive rights to negotiate a contract with Suter before he officially becomes a UFA. See the trade last June between Montreal & Columbus for James Wisniewski's rights as an example. BTW, I recall Kenny saying last year around draft time that trading for a UFA's rights before the deadline is a practice that he doesn't want to participate in. We'll see if that changes w/ Suter or Parise this year.

Original 12? Original 12??? If you want to brand them, call them the "Second half-dozen teams added" or something like that. NOT Original 12.

Philadelphia bar brews a beer called "Crosby Tears"
ogreslayer replied to PredsFanTheBayouState's topic in General
I want to know if they up the carbonation in the beer to produce extreme hangovers & severe headaches after drinking. Too soon? -
And near the end, Stevie was maybe a quarter of the player he used to be due to injuries and there wasn't any debate that he was no longer the #1 forward on the team let alone it's best player. I think there's still plenty of sentiment that Lids is easily the #1 d-man on the team yet & is still probably second only to Pavel as far as his impact on games. And as far as pay cuts, he's been taking them for years on end.

Predators bench Radulov and A. Kostitsyn for Game 3 of WCSF

Trotz better wear a helmet on the bench for the next game Radulov plays. -
HBO 24/7 Returning for Maple Leafs @ Red Wings Winter Classic

And I will enjoy every Babcock Death Stare he aims the camera's way during the show, of which there will be many I think. -
As much as everyone would want Stevie, if Holland hangs them up in the next couple to few years, Nill will be the next GM in Detroit imo. Glad he's sticking around.
-
^^^This Just don't see room for him on the roster, especially if the Wings are active in the FA market like they should be.
-
He would probably face a firing squad after the hearing actually.
-
You mean the same Semin what was benched in the 3rd last night because he's such a huge defensive liability? Yeah, for those who think Franzen floats, watch more than a couple of Caps games to see what Semin's game is about. Do...not...want...
-
I for one am going to be really disappointed if Kenny goes after Sutter, Praise, & Webber. Are those cheap, Chinese knockoffs of the real Ryan Suter, Zach Parise, & Shea Weber?
-
I'm in for an additional $50 if they can pull off the next 3 games.
-
That's it! Do an entire roster swap with the Blue Jackets!!! I think it's clear at this point that the straw that actually stirred the Wings drink was one Brett Lebda. (/sarcasm for anyone with a broken detector)

Ultimately, I think Lids & Homer retire together at the end of the season, Stuart's negotiating rights are traded off to a Cali team for a draft pick, & Hudler's let go outright. If it plays out that way, I do see Kenny going hard after Parise to set up something like this at forward... Parise-Pavs-Mule Flip-Hank-Gus Abby-Helm-Bert Eaves-Emmerton-Miller Mursak Edit: Just dawned on me that I forgot Cleary... Much of the 3rd & 4th line's problems get fixed with a healthy Helm & Eaves next year imo. Personally though, I would much rather see Sheahan centering the 4th if he can prove he can hold his own on faceoffs in camp. He has a clear size advantage on Emmerton & comes from a defensive minded system at ND that placed a great deal of emphasis on cycling the puck too. I just don't see Suter leaving Nashville at this point, at least not for Detroit, and the rest of the FA class doesn't look that strong at all. That might mean the d-corps looks like this going into camp... Kronner-White Quincey-Ericsson Smith-Kindl Janik If that's the case, I think Kenny needs to start packaging some prospects/draft picks up for a trade. But who knows, maybe if Lids does hang them up, Kenny will too like he's mentioned before. Maybe this should be a "What's Jim Nill's offseason plan" thread instead.

Let's see him learn a little bit from Pavs on how to anticipate contact & deliver a hit before getting one.

The Official NHL Suspension Thread
ogreslayer replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
And a rook that appeared to try to avoid Smith where Lucic just pretty much steamrolled Miller. I guess it's getting bad when as a Wings fan, I'm defending a 'Hawks player. That Shanny sure is a uniter! -

It appears Shanny didn't call the 'Yotes to find out that Smith isn't injured & is in the starting line-up tonight before he lowered the hammer.
