Interesting... Doubt the Wings have a snowball's chance though.
-
Or here's another scenario... 1. Holland pulls off a trade for Carter 2. Wings go on to win The Cup 3. The league avoids another lockout with a new CBA that includes a new cap structure 4. Due to the new CBA, teams have a grace period to buy out contracts to get compliant 5. Wings buy out Carter & send him on his way 6. All other teams' fans can get back to accusing the Wings of buying Cups again

Can I pick a cyborg version of Nick if all the parts were made by Volvo so he would still be all Swedish?
-
If the Wings got Selanne... He would spend more time complementing Kronwall instead of calling him a dangerous player: I don't see him coming to Detroit at all though

what should our 2013 winter classic jersey look like

Would definitely love the reverse of the WC jersey. Just hope I'll get a chance to add a Lidstrom one of those to the Pavs & Homer WC jerseys I already have. I mean Nick HAS to come back for another year to play in the game right? -
I haven't found any pictures. Will a video do? http://video.redwings.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=156892&catid=-6

And how fitting is it that he comes away with a broken nose in #1000? Homer won't make the HoF but he is the best ever at what he does.
-
I hope they just play a looped video of Homer saying "for sure" in honor of his 1000th tonight. Got to say that I'm more nervous about tonight's game being the streak-ender than Sunday's with the Flyers. Hope the boys don't overlook the Ducks like they've done with teams like the Habs, Islanders, etc. Prove me wrong Wings!

And this move could have the added benefit, as stated in the article, of moving Hank out to the wing. One of the reasons Fil is having his best year ever, imo, is due to the fact that he's pretty much played wing exclusively & doesn't have the defensive responsibilities that go with playing center. Bringing Carter in to play center (well, anyone really) at times to take the pressure off of Hank would be a godsend as far as I'm concerned.
-
Agreed. I think the price to make a big splash will be way too high. Unless C'bus wants to get rid of Carter for twenty cents on the dollar, I don't see it happening. Regardless, if there's a locker room that can teach Carter how to mature & become a true professional NHLer, it's Detroit's.

According to LeBrun, Garth Snow's saying he's not thinking of trading Nabokov. http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/14557/rumblings-sellers-starting-to-emerge Another target off the board apparently.
-
News out of Carolina this afternoon has Jim Rutherford saying that after meeting w/ Ruutu, he's going to try to re-sign him. Another supposed target for the Wings potentially off the market.

Carter was only rumored to have slept with Hartnell's wife where Shanny did indeed do that & ended up marrying Janney's wife 3 years after the incident. So I guess that means by your line of thinking, once Carter marries the former Lisa Hartnell & confirms that their screwing around is what broke up her marriage, the Wings organization (and by extension you) would be able to welcome him with open arms? Oh and for Carter being a prima donna & making it known he wants out of Columbus being something that Shanny would never do here's just a little bit of an article from back in October of 1996 about a little transaction between the Wings & Whalers... http://www.nytimes.com/1996/10/10/sports/whalers-finally-trade-shanahan-for-coffey.html Maybe take the Wings Rose-Red colored glasses off & see the situations aren't all that different after all.
-
Nope, just the best pic I could find on-line where he had a hang-dog "You just did what with my wife?" look on his face.
-
I don't see a big move happening because it's a sellers market now & will probably stay that way going into the trade deadline. I just don't see Kenny mortgaging the future to make a big splash. I don't doubt though that what Kenny might pull off is picking up a player off another team's scrap heap (think like a Brad Boyes in Buffalo) that flies under the radar at first but turns into a great deal at the end of the day.
-
The Wings would never trade for a guy who boned another man's wife? I think this guy would disagree... But that's more about the history of another franchise I guess. If you do want to talk Wings franchise history though, I think it's pretty safe to say that if the front office & the coaching staff really thought that Carter was the piece to take them over the top & win The Cup this year (like they did with a certain lad of Irish descent that they traded for in 1996) Kenny would find a way to get it done.
-
So was it that Shanahan had a good work ethic or that he actually DID manage to sleep with the spouse of a teammate the reason for the Wings trading for him back in the day? Have to doubt the "NOT given a chance" statement based on past history.
-
With reports of the Wings scouting the Sabres lately, I wouldn't be too surprised to see something like Enroth & Boyes as Kenny should be able to make that deal pretty cheaply with the Sabres wanting to get something back out of the Boyes deal. Maybe Conks, a 2nd or 3rd rounder, & Miller to sweeten the pot. Given how much of a seller's market it is right now, I see smaller gamble moves like this on the horizon than Kenny making some huge deal.
-
For C'bus to trade the face of their franchise & the best player to ever put on their sweater to an intra-division rival? Kenny would have to empty the cubbard for that & I don't see that happening. I could see the Jackets taking much less though to get rid of Carter & his salary in order to focus on a different rebuilding plan.
-
Stevie Y was 21 in the early 90's? Um, nooooooooo. He would have been 26 at the start of the 91-92 season. Personally, I really don't see them as very similar to begin with. Stevie was much more gifted offensively (clearly as far as I'm concerned) but he had to turn himself into a two-way player later in his career where Hank's always brought that to the table. I see Hank as the current heart & soul of this team. While I would never say never, I think it would have to take one hell of an offer to convince me that Hank shouldn't be a Red Wing for life.
-
This will be a good opportunity for the team to step up their support of Conks & get him on track. With reports of Malts scouting Buffalo for two straight games, maybe Kenny will pick up Miller to back Jimmy up the rest of the way if Conks can't get it going?

Keep crossing them for Morrow. Maybe not so much for Doan: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/01/31/coyotes-gm-wont-trade-shane-doan-soul-of-franchise/

Clearly #5 will happen the year after Lids hangs the sweater up. My question is, does #30 go up in the rafters if Ozzie actually does get into the HoF? I'm thinking no, it won't.
