Yes, still in for the cap hit but this clears them up to just send him straight down to GR without waivers again I believe once Ericsson & Smith are back.
-
Sammy most certainly can be waived as he doesn't have a no movement clause, just a no trade clause. From a cap relief standpoint, sure the Wings would only receive a $100k benefit from the move but based on some coverage I've been seeing, the next move the Wings will need to make is all about staying at the 23 man roster limit & has nothing to do with the salary cap. Fingers crossed that Sammy may very well find himself going through waivers soon.

I'm pretty certain that re-entry waivers were done away with in the new CBA.
-
Maybe that's a hint to the fact that Mr. Ilitch is a vampire or something. "IF you come back down....mwaaaa haaaa haaaa..."

Latest I've seen on the story: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/semyon-varlamov-accuser-speaks-social-media-russians-concerned-155935079--nhl.html Looks like a break-up gone bad & some overreactions.

With initials like XO, does he possibly have an "A" on his jersey in the future?
-
He didn't when he played center near the end of last season too. A little harder for him to float given the responsibilities of the position.
-
So what happens if Ouellet looks better than Smith tonight?
-
Going to be at least 5 or he wouldn't have been given an in person hearing.
-
They only save $100k against the cap by sending Sammy to GR
-
While there's only been 3 players claimed on waivers since the end of training camp from what I remember, most of what's been sent down are your typical career 4th liners. Smith, despite not looking all that good so far this season, would be snapped up in a heartbeat. If the Wings desided to only dress 6 d-men in an effort to help towards cap compliance, and I really don't think they would, the odd man out would be DeKeyser who is still waiver exempt. If Smith goes anywhere, it would be in a trade.
-
I don't think that there's much danger of Eaves getting claimed on waivers if sent to GR, which doesn't really help the Wings all that much from a salary cap standpoint. $1.2m for a 4th line grinder/PK specialist is a little much for most teams with the drop in the salary cap this season when they can find someone to fill the same role for half that amount. I have my doubts that Tootoo would be claimed either if sent down, primarily due to that $1.9m salary. Kenny's going to have to eat some of those salaries and/or sweeten a deal with picks/prospects to trade either of them off to get cap compliant imo. Time for Kenny to prove why he has a reputation as one of the best.
-
Either way, I think Kenny's going to have to sweeten any deal to trade either one of them, whether it's a draft pick or decent prospect.
-
That doesn't clear enough salary with Helm's $2.125m coming back on the books, even if Kenny manages to trade Eaves outright as that only clears up $1.775m. If he can't trade Eaves & sends him to GR with Glendening, that only clears $850k because of the new buried contract rules. If the end result the Wings want is to have Helm & Nyquist on the roster this season, that means at the very least one of Tootoo or Eaves will be traded & the other plus Glendening head back to GR.
-
Key phrase there is "if all goes according to plan". I think we've seen plenty of examples of how those "if's" have worked out for him over the past 18 months. I'll stick with Helm's own assessment of the situation myself which is, and I quote, “Until my name’s on a lineup sheet I’m not going to get that excited about it.’’
-
That's a little bit of an overstatement. That is simply the first game he would be eligible for if he returns from LTIR on time. No confirmation at all at this point that he will be back for that game.
-
The penalty applies to any team that received a cap advantage from one of those long term contracts, even if the player is traded. The only way the Wings can avoid the risk of carrying a cap hit from Franzen retiring early is to do a buyout.
-
Franzen turns 40 in December of 2019 so he'll be 40 when his contract expires.
-
It's the Cap Recapture Rule, also known as the Luongo Rule, which ends up recapturing the cap advantage from the early years in those "lifetime" contracts & adds it to a team's salary cap over the remaining years of the contract if the player retires before it's up. You can play around w/ Franzen scenarios here: http://www.capgeek.com/recapture-calculator/?player_id=292&player_submit=on Personal opinion, if Mule doesn't get his ass in gear this season, he very well could be looking at a compliance buyout come June as improbable as that once seemed.

-
Because he's not 20 yet, he either stays in the Q or he has to be up with the Wings. fyi, he's eligible for the AHL next spring as soon as his season in the Q is done. I expect he'll see at least a few games in GR before the season's over.

Cory Emmerton and Petr Mrazek sent to Grand Rapids

Does it feel like they're punishing the wrong player by dropping Alfie to the 3rd & leaving Mule on the 2nd? -
Might he also be a joker, a smoker, & a midnight toker? Back to Hertl though. "Act like you've done it before, it's a team sport so don't call attention to yourself, blah, blah blah." Sure that's one side of it, but these are professional players. If you don't want someone celebrating after scoring a goal, do your job & don't let them score in the first place.

No, not until the Wings get rid of a body or two. These moves are all about Tootoo & Gustavsson being back soon plus Eaves should be cleared to play in the next couple of weeks. Nyquist won't be up any time soon imo. -
Doesn't take brilliance to see that. At the very least, all he had to do was watch footage of how the Blues & Jackets did this to the Wings last season.
