This. 100% this. We are playing 8 pre season games. Downey is playing in 1 for sure. s*** guys he made the team. Looking at the line up, we seem to be missing a few highly skilled vets in this game, which is letting other players who are not guaranteed to make the team play. Heaten, you've listed Miller, Ritola Draper and Maltby as all being better than Downey. Draper is hurt, Malts is going to be the first call up, Miller is probably going to get traded. Ritola is the only one likely to make the team just because, if i remember correctly, he cant be sent to grand rapids with out having to clear wavers this season. I also hope you are joking when you say that Tatar, Andersson, and Mursak will be traded. Tatar is most likely to see some ice time with the wings this season if he doesn't make the team after preseason stuff. the other two will probably become part of the wings next season or even later as they develop even more in grand rapids. No way Holland will trade/release them because the latter 2 have not been in the system long enough to develop and learn the wings game.

Probably because there is more than one pre season game and Downy wont play in all of them. He's gotta get a feel for the team and a chance to maybe make the team as well.

judging by the box score on espn.com, it looks like each team played two totally different line ups. I'm guessing one game was a rookie game and the other was a real line up game.

i'm watching the sens leafs game right now and the sens just took way to many stupid penalties resulting in the leafs having about 2 min of 5 on 3. so far the leafs look like s*** and can not convert on this 5 on 3 lebda just completed a "great veteran move" by falling down and drawling a penalty. why did we let him go

I feel like Bettman knows what will happen if there is a work stoppage again and as much as he'd like to control salaries, he doesn't want the league to lose the fans they have gained in the last few years. I'm expecting either a revenue sharing system again or a cap just like MLB where you can have x number of players being paid however much the team wants to and the rest of the team counts toward a cap.

This is a very solid fear. Donald lead the MLB through its strike in '94-'95 and is not afraid to play hardball. I'd expect some changes to the salary cap at the next CBA.

I think this hits the nail on the head. We will never have another Yzerman and we wont need one. What we do have and should always have are amazing team leaders. Lids has done an amazing job of leading and Z will be able to pick up right where Lids leaves it when he retires.

Its really hard to say before july 1st, but i really think that the flyers are going to be contenders again. It doesn't seem like to many players will be leaving. As much as it pains me to say, i don't see us getting past the second round of the playoffs again.

I really like bostons chances against the pens just because of how good Rask has been playing in the post season. I cant imagine the bruins going away with out a fight, especially after the savard hit.

Did you see ozzy play at all at the start of the season? We dont have the team in-front of the goal to score like we used to, thats why these games are close. Howard has improved a ton from where he was at the start of the season. We'll never know what would of happened if we would of stuck with ozzy early in the season, but i have a feeling that it would end with us not playing now.

At least Lilja wont be rusty.

i really dont think you watched the game tonight. Howard was the only reason we were still in the game after the 5 on 3 happened.
