gdt 12/21 GDT: Red Wings 5 @ Maple Leafs 4 (SO, yes, SO)

How is there even a discussion? They just showed the stick in Quincey's face. What a joke. -

Holland would knock the net off if Tatar or Jurco were to score. Those are CLEARY'S goals. -

Wow. Reports have it that Gaborik broke his collarbone. It's his first game back from IR. -

So....Holland clearly knocks the net off, but that's called? -

2013 UFAs impact on trade deadline/future of Wings
Paul MacLean's Mustache posted a topic in General
This isn't a knee-jerk reaction to last night's game, but Holland's going to have a lot on his plate this offseason and I think we all can agree that we need to shore up a depleted defense. Having said that; several key players are going to be UFAs after this season and trading for a top-4 defensemen is going to be tough with Jimmy, Flip, Cleary, Brunner, White, and Miller all up for grabs at the end of the season. We know Holland likes to take care of his own, but there are some interesting players out there after the end of this year, especially on offense. With over $10 million available in cap now, you could conceivably see that dwindle just with the likes of new deals for White, Flip, and Jimmy. So, who goes? Who stays? Personally, I'd like to see us in the market for Scuderi or Streit, but what if Getzlaf or Perry hit the market? -
Living close to D.C, I can say firsthand that Semin is the favorite scapegoat for the casual Caps fan. Sometimes talent doesn't overshadow work ethic -- just ask the proud new owners of Nikita Filatov. Unless he's given up for cheap, stay far, far away, Kenny.

Do you think Mickey will talk about the good old days of wooden sticks? It's just these days everyone's using the GOSH DARN BENDY STICKS THAT BREAK SO EASILY!

Leafs changing jersey; naming Phaneuf captain
Paul MacLean's Mustache replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
Think about this logically.... Mats Sundin will be succeeded by Dion Phaneuf. Let that sink in now.... -
He had nothing more to prove -- cup winner, sure-fire hall of famer, Norris trophy winner; you name it, and Cheli's done it. Loved watching him play for the Wings for all the years we had him.

With Ritola having to pass waivers to continue playing in the AHL next year, Maltby and Draper's desire to continue to play, and the addition of Hudler, we could see a very different Red Wings team next year. My question: out of Bertuzzi, Eaves, and Miller, who do you hope to see here next year? I think Eaves gave it his all every night and his abilities on the PK are something the Wings will continue to need, but I thought Bertuzzi had an excellent showing in the playoffs.

Who should we Keep? Release? Sign?
Paul MacLean's Mustache replied to Paul MacLean's Mustache's topic in General
The sheer fact that I read on here that Jimmy Howard had "nothing" on Carey Price brought the lulz right out of me. -

I didn't even factor Abdelkader into the equation -- that makes it even more interesting. I think if Bertuzzi comes back, he drops a line. He's not fast enough or half the scoring threat he used to be, but he still provides a decent amount of offense. Hudler replaces Bertuzzi in our top 6 next year, in my opinion. -

Agreed. Draper and Maltby aren't making this decision any easier. I'd gladly take Ritola/Eaves or even Eaves/Miller on the fourth line than those two. -
Luongo can bring home the gold, but he can't bring home the silver.

It's kind of like the first "Mighty Ducks" movie where Gordon Bombay is teaching the kids how to dive. The sharks' team effort to this lost art is impressive.
