Will Jimmy Howard Be Overworked For Playoffs?

    Sorry, wrong thread

Can Conner reasonably be sent down?

Conner has definitely earned a roster spot with his play since being called up, and while it is a good problem to have, we will definitely have a logjam in the bottom 6 once people start getting healthy again. I truly think Emmerton will find himself in GR or claimed off waivers before long, he just doesn't bring anything to the table that we don't already have in our lineup. He doesn't have game-changing speed like Mursak, Conner, or Helm, he doesn't kill penalties better than Miller, Eaves, or Abdelkader, he isn't much of a scoring threat either. I'm glad to see a guy like Conner who shows up and exceeds expectations by simply outworking the competition.

@OP, did you copy the projected lines from the STL game, or is Filppula really out for tonight?

    Q & A with a few NHL players

'06-'09 with Calgary, though it's easy enough to forget about 4 first round exits

Who would you pick to have back on this team?

I have always wished we could have kept Kozlov in '02. I realize that we got Hasek for him, and that put us over the top that year, but Kozlov was one of my favorites from that era, ever since he turnbuckled Adam Foote's face.

    The Official NHL Suspension Thread

I was watching, the hit was all head, but Ben Smith was clearly trying to evade Brendan Smith and do a toe-drag move, he just went low and changed direction so Brendan's shoulder caught him across the face. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a suspension, but I don't think he targeted the head, just one of those things that happens when a player is trying to avoid a hit and by doing so makes himself vulnerable.

9/22 Exhibition GDT: Red Wings 4 at Flyers 3 (SO)

Pretty sweet goal, intentionally shot wide by Kindl, Flip redirected it in mid-air from the edge of the left circle.

Best Playoff Series of the Last 15 Years

As significant as the win in '97 was, I can't help but think that the WCF in '02 against Colorado was the most intense playoff series I have ever watched. Both teams had unbelievable talent, and aside from the blowout in game 7 every game was very closely contested. How many future hall-of-famers were involved in that series? The only reason that this is not a no-brainer for me is that the Avs series was not for the Cup, but all things considered my vote has to go to the '02 Colorado series.

    Best One-Two Punch?

Have to agree with this one. Getzlaf is a beast, Perry has established himself as a force to be reckoned with (despite still being a complete ******), and throw Bobby Ryan on a line with them, when healthy they are the most dangerous scoring line in the league IMO.

    2012 Playoff Predictions

For those saying there is no way that Winnipeg makes the playoffs this year, if I recall they were in the 7th or 8th spot as late as March. I don't necessarily think they will make the playoffs, but I would not be so quick to count them out, after all they do play in the Southeast still, and the will probably finish no worse than 3rd in their division. Aside from that, I don't think we will see many surprises this year, mainly a bit of shuffling spots among the perennial playoff teams, and the 8 seed in the West will be 10 or more points higher than the 8 seed in the East.

    Detroit Fans Have Turned Ugly

I disagree with the author's premise, but he does make some valid points. Every fan base has armchair GMs, fair-weather fans, and those who simply embarrass themselves, but like a vast majority of Wings fans, including most on LGW, I acknowledge that sports are just sports, not the end of the world but something I am passionate about and enjoy watching, talking about, reading about, etc. As a fan of the Red Wings, do I have the right to disagree with a decision that Ken Holland makes about a certain player? Yes. Does my opinion (key word here) have any effect on the outcome? No. Do I have the right to express my displeasure if the Wings lose a game in which they did not appear to give 100% effort (especially if I paid good money to see it in person)? Yes. Again, is my opinion going to have any effect on the outcome? No. So, I shake my head and hope that the mistakes the organization makes will not lead to a lesser degree of success than I have come to expect, I turn off the TV or boo from my seat in the stands, I throw my hat on the ground and storm out of the room, occasionally I kick the table and break a toe or two (ala 95 SCF), but life carries on, and so do I. I am proud to be a Red Wings fan, I am proud to be from Michigan, but I do not expect to be held accountable for how every fan of the Red Wings chooses to conduct themselves, neither do I make any apologies for their choice of expression, nor do I seek to impose my standards on anyone or seek to conform to anyone else's standards. \rant

Wings sign D Ian White to 2-year, $5.75m contract

This is a good signing, kinda takes a bit of the sting off Ericsson's overpayment. White will not single-handedly replace all of Rafalski's offense, but he has above average offensive instincts, a heavy shot from the point/high slot, and is a right-handed shot, which fits right into the role he is expected to play. Not bad defensively either. Now, with the remaining ~6mil in cap space, lets bring in a sniper for the top 6, go into camp with 15 forwards, 8 defensemen, and let the best lineup work itself out.

Our Free Agents not locked up yet -

I voted Eaves, of all our UFAs he has the most upside by far. Miller is replaceable, Ericsson needs to go if he thinks he is worth more than 2mil per year, Salei was OK for us but there are better younger options available for the 5/6 hole, Draper and Osgood are just taking roster spots away from up and coming players at this point, loyalty aside they need to do the right thing and step away for the sake of the future of this team.

Reports: Hulsizer Pulls Out Of Phoenix

Only potential problem I can see with SLC is that putting a team there would basically cut Colorado's TV market in half. Altitude Sports airs Avs games in 10 states in the rocky mountain region, including Utah & Idaho, so putting another team in that region would potentially hurt a franchise that, while struggling on the ice, appears to be one of the more successful in terms of attendance and TV ratings. Otherwise, I think an NHL team in SLC could do well, I know a lot of my friends in Utah are only Avs fans because they are the closest team, they would probably embrace a local team better than Phoenix would.

2011 NHL Draft: Rounds 2-7 Discussion

Agreed, his first couple of fights ended up mainly being just wrestling matches, but his last couple he threw some really good quick punches, knocking the helmet off his opponents with the first punch. You gotta figure a guy his size as a 17 year old fighting 20 year old experienced fighters will only improve in his technique, and he has room for 15-20 pounds on his frame. Reminds me a bit of Jiri Fischer
