I am feeling a big night from the Mule tonight, no you didn't hear it first, but you heard it here nonetheless. He is due, he only has 1 goal so far, can't remember the last time he had that long of a goal-scoring drought in one playoff. Come on, don't let me down.

I figured Keith would be a finalist, pleasantly surprised to see Doughty in the running, disappointed that Green is being considered. I feel strongly that Keith will win this year, but Doughty will likely win multiple times before his career is over, he's just that good. Maybe not the best shutdown defenseman, but as others have said he is highly visible when on the ice, has great hockey sense and no glaring weaknesses. As far as I am concerned, Mike Green is basically a forward playing the point, and since Washington plays like they are on the power play all game, he never gets to play his true position. In all seriousness, he is a defensive liability on a good day, on a bad day he is painful to watch (just see the highlight package from game 2 of the Montreal series above), the only reason he is more than an afterthought is because of his numbers, which admittedly are impressive but are misleading if you ignore his play in the defensive zone.

To me, that period was a victory. We have gotten off to really bad slow starts in this series, and even though they waved off the goal, I felt comfortable with the effort and intensity. As long as they don't give up a goal in the first minute of the 2nd, we'll be OK

As long as it's not part of the pre-season or regular season schedule, I say why not. I say send the SCF teams to play their champ and runner-up, and have them send 4 other teams here to play our bottom 4 (Edmonton, Toronto, Florida, Columbus) just so we can say that our best beat their best and our worst beat them too. Might discourage some players who were thinking about jumping ship, let them see how much better the hockey is in the NHL by direct comparison.

This^ He rarely takes a shift off, but at times depending on the flow of the game and/or his own confidence, he tends to disappear offensively and look to pass at all costs. I don't know what the trigger is for him, but he always seems to play with such confidence in the playoffs and if he could just maintain that all season, he would be a real force in this league. As an unashamed Filppula fan and apologist, I am not blind to his perceived flaws, but my faith in his abilities and enjoyment of the passion with which he plays when at the top of his game outweigh his cold streaks and occasional disappearances.
