IMO, the only way Abby cracks the lineup is if someone gets hurt or really hits a bad slump. Miller is too versatile to think about sitting in favor of a rookie, and more importantly he has earned his spot since the day he was picked up on waivers. Eaves is pretty much a fixture on the 1st PK unit with Helm, the only thing he has struggled with this whole season has been little nicks and dents (and apparently shootouts ) No one else deserves to be even considered for being a healthy scratch in the playoffs. As much as I like the kid, Abdelkader will likely end up another black ace this year, and have to earn his spot in training camp this summer.

His picture on NHL10 looks like it was taken outdoors, he's got gunslinger eyes like he's squinting at the sun. Ever since I saw that, I've been calling him either "Squints" or "Snake Eyes". Unless someone on the team gives him a clever nickname (ala Yzerman calling Franzen "the Mule"), I don't think anything will stick, and he'll end up being called "Howie" or "Jimmy", seems to be the pattern.

QFT It seems like a while since we've had a GDT over 20 pages before the game ends. Then again, there hasn't been much to talk about this game so far, kind of a yawner

Do I dare get my hopes up for a 5th straight win? Of course, I'm not that much of a pessimist. I'm predicting that the 1st line will stay hot, the 2nd line will get back in the act, and this will be a dominant performance all around. Wings win by 3 or more goals, Rinne gets pulled, Lilja gets revenge on Weber, and guys like Miller, Helm, Eaves, Howard get meal tabs picked up by our vets in light of the unreal taxation debacle.

Franzen and Holmstrom are not as similar as it seems. Holmstrom is definitely at his best when standing with his rear end in the goalie's face, and while Franzen has scored a lot of goals that way, especially during stretches when Holmstrom has been injured, he (Franzen) is about the closest thing the Red Wings have to a true sniper, someone who can find the voids in defensive coverage and accurately fire the puck to spots where the goalie is not. I actually like this line because of that very fact, Franzen has probably been the best fit to put with Datsyuk and Holmstrom so far.
