Good pressure on the first shift of the 2nd, better play like that the rest of the game or we're hosed

So sad that I actually agree with this I wish I had your gift for combining pessimism and humor, thanks for easing the pain just a little

You must be so proud of yourself. Seriously, why do you even bother posting on here, all you do is badmouth the Wings and start arguments with other posters.

Could the Coyotes get best record in the West?

Don't get me wrong, I am happy for the fans that they do have, I just don't know if making the playoffs will make that much of a difference. The main problem is that the franchise is still hemorrhaging money even after the league took over, there is talk of a new ownership group showing interest, they have a competitive lineup for the first time in a long time, but is it a good thing for the league to have a franchise that is going to have to rely on profit-sharing to keep them afloat until the fanbase catches on? Best of luck to them and all, but it is still my opinion that it was a mistake to put a hockey team in the desert, and it is also my opinion that having a loyal fanbase will lead to a successful franchise, not the other way around.

Could the Coyotes get best record in the West?

This reminds me of one of those zen philosophy questions: If the Coyotes make the playoffs, but no one is there to see it, did it really happen?

I agree that it's worth a shot, if nothing else than to see if he has it in him still, but I wouldn't go so far as to say Meech is useless on defense, he is not that bad for a 6th defenseman, but when you put him at forward, you are right he is just a warm body filling a roster slot, I doubt that Ericsson can do much worse at forward than Meech, at least with his size he could stand in front of the net.

Eaves out, Ericsson may be moved to forward Per MLive, Eaves is out tonight, should return by Monday vs. Pittsburgh Ericsson may be moved to forward, at this point it might not be a bad idea, but which line would they put him on, Draper/Helm/Ericsson or Bertuzzi/Williams/Ericsson? I vote the latter, but then again they may dress Meech as the 12th forward.

3/19 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Oilers 3 (SO)

Hah, Edmonton's injury list looks like ours used to. Last place team, starting a rookie goaltender looking for his first NHL win, sounds like a recipe for disaster to my cynical side. We have to go out swinging and get the early knockdown, them never let up. Anything other than a victory by 3+ goals should be viewed as a disappointment. No Mercy!
  12. Isn't that what this board is for? How many threads were made this off-season saying "the Wings should sign X player", how is this any different? This is a player who was obviously under-valued, i.e. undrafted, had himself a great season in Eliteserien and caught the eye of several NHL teams with his impressive Olympic tournament, and from the sound of the report that the OP linked, it has been speculated that his camp is favoring Detroit as the best option should he decide to leave Europe. He is a player of obvious skill and should be relatively cheap to acquire, just because the Leino experiment failed doesn't mean we should never take such a chance again.
  13. I really like these lines 100% agreed. Any undrafted free agent who signs with the Red Wings has to know going in to the deal that, barring an unbelievable training camp, he is going to have to pay his dues in Grand Rapids. Leino got a rude awakening and his entitled attitude and refusal to put in the necessary work ultimately led to his departure from the organization. Whoever put together that highlight package did a good job of showing his hands, but they also managed to show that he has better than average skating speed and a willingness to scrap, I will have to look .for highlights of him in the Olympics to see how he handles the smaller rink and playing against more physical players, but I trust Steve Yzerman and if he is raving about this kid, he definitely is worth taking a chance on.

    Hudler's Options

I believe this is correct. BTW, how did Hudler get the nickname "Rex"? Just curious if that is something exclusive to this board.

Canucks lose Samuelsson for 2-to-3 weeks

Even after leaving, he can't escape the Wings injury bug this season Seriously though, sucks for Sammy, he was playing lights-out and earned the promotion to the Sedin line. That was an awful lot of ginger on the ice at the same time.
  16. How could any self-respecting Red Wings fan NOT vote for Eaves? Holland picked this guy up off the scrap heap, and all he has done is earn his keep and then some. I want to see him get a multi-year extension, he deserves it. Also, how could any self-respecting Red Wings fan vote for 20 Cent?

    Evaluating Our Remaining Schedule

After looking at that schedule, my hopes immediately went up, and I started to have visions of 5th seed, but then as usual the pessimism started to creep in and I was reminded of how many game we "should have won" this season that we let slip away, or just never showed up in the first place (the Islanders comes to the forefront). I'm not convinced that it is not due in part to fatigue after playing 4 seasons worth of games in the last 3, but most of it has to be mental at this point, they just appear to get rattled easier than we are used to, and they have a bad habit of playing down to the level of their competition, which they absolutely cannot do and hope to make the playoffs.

Is Datsyuk a lock for the Selke?

The clear front runners for the Selke are Datsyuk and Kesler, without question. I can't even start to guess who would be the third nominee. Unfortunately the team performance will likely swing the voting in Kesler's favor, especially when factored in with Datsyuk's reduced PK time and the giveaway/takeaway difference. That being said, if Datsyuk continues to play like he has since the Olympic break, and more importantly if the Red Wings make the playoffs with Datsyuk leading the way, he has to be a lock, no one can deny that his skills are second to none and he has the highlights to prove it. Someone show me a highlight of Kesler picking someone pockets and scoring on the same play (I'm not saying he hasn't done it, I just want to see a highlight if anyone can find one)

3/13 GDT: Sabres 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

Do they have the nets up over the end glass in European leagues? The nets were mandated because a few years ago (pre-lockout don't remember the exact year) a little girl was hit by a puck that deflected over the high glass behind the goal and it was still traveling fast enough to kill her. The idea was that the net is there to protect the fans from flying pucks, but it did not change the part of the arena that is in play, it is as though the puck cleared the glass and ended up in the seats. The rub is that every now and then the refs don't see the puck hit the mesh and instead of blowing the play dead they allow it to continue, and it has led directly to goals against at least twice this season.

Compliments aren't so much rare, as they are instantly flamed by certain posters who seem to hate Filppula as though he had run over their dog or something. As a result, only a few brave souls still post positive things about him.

I like the Filppula/Miller PK combo, two games in a row they generate scoring chances shorthanded. Too bad they didn't bury it again tonight.

Just saw the reply of Buffalo's goal, it looks like that shot from the point dipped on Howard, he was thinking glove but it sunk and hit his pad, probably why the rebound was so juicy. Not making excuses for him, he still needs to absorb rebounds, but I can see how that fooled him, kind of like a split-finger pitch that a batter is way ahead of and looks retarded trying to swing at. Let's hope they come out and start the 2nd like the 1st, keep their foot on the Sabre's throat.

Am I seeing things? or are we up 2-0 in the first 5 minutes? Please, please, please keep the pedal down and don't let them back into this game.
