2/1 GDT : Blues 3 at Red Wings 5 (Z with Hat Trick)

It's on NHLN-US, so you should get it on CI in Canada

2/1 GDT : Blues 3 at Red Wings 5 (Z with Hat Trick)

Somehow, I don't see this game as being anything like the last one, we've had a couple weeks to shake off the lockout rust, plus we are at home. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a fight early on, send a message, maybe we can throw Abdelkader, Eaves, and Tootoo on the same line against Backes' line and have them pull a Hanson Bros. (hey, I can dream, right?) I see it being a very close game, 3-2 or 4-3 Wings.

Babcock wants a righty an a lefty on the point on PP whenever possible. I agree though, get him out on a wing, let him find the open space in the circles, and feed him for the one-timer, ala Brett Hull, Steven Stamkos, etc. Can't be any less effective than what we've had so far this season on the PP.

New lines going into Friday (not speculation)

I like the look of the top 6, and I agree with those that are saying switch Miller and Eaves, back before the concussion Eaves had some pretty good chemistry with Helm, both at even strength and on the PK, same with Miller and Abdelkader. Not to mention it was an empty net situation, the only defenseman on the ice was Kronwall with 4 forwards, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Brunner, and I believe Franzen.

    Ian White Out 2-3 Weeks

I like where you are going with this, after all we've used extra D-men to fill in when we were short on forwards, but not sure if Emmerton is the forward I'd want to put back at D, call me crazy but I'd put Helm at D if he can go Friday, he's the most effective defensive forward we have not named Datsyuk.

    1/22 GDT : Stars 2 at Red Wings 1

↑ Made my day, thanks. Looking forward to the game, but worried because Loui Eriksson makes us his prison girlfriend just about every time we play Dallas, hope tonight is different.

1/21: Red Wings 4 at Blue Jackets 3 (SO)

Hopefully they got the rust and nerves out of the way Saturday night, and the real Red Wings show up tonight.

NHL Gamecenter Live **No illegal stream discussion**

What that means is that the only team for which you will be blacked out of every game on GameCenter Live is the Dallas Stars, since you are in their regional sports network's market (FS Southwest). As for the television, if you subscribe to all of the Fox Sports channels, you get those channels, but they have already arranged for Center Ice to be the means by which the NHL games are distributed out of the regional markets, so the only way you will be able to watch FSD broadcasts of Red Wings games on TV is if you get Center Ice, that essentially "unlocks" the out of market hockey games on the RSNs, and also adds a dedicated channel for each game when it is being aired.

Love the new look, and so freaking excited to drop the puck finally!!
  10. Did anyone happen to record the game? If so, any chance you could upload it or at least the highlights?

  12. Wow, talk about putting words in my mouth. All I did was point out two ways in which your post was incorrect, I never said anything about an anti-Wings agenda, all I said is that Olczyk has on many occasions had difficulty hiding his disdain for the Red Wings, and as haroldsnepsts pointed out there is the expectation that a commentator on a national broadcast be able to remain objective. One thing I am certain of, if they ever decided to use Ken and/or Mickey on any national broadcast teams, they would do a much better job than Olczyk, and they both lack the cringe factor or Emrick's high-pitched grating. Just because you disagree doesn't mean that others aren't entitled to their opinions, and your histrionic mock-sobbing adds nothing to the conversation

    Brunner's nickname

I'm just dorky enough to love it. More importantly, I wonder what number he will wear, he wore 96 for EV Zug and the Swiss Olympic team, I dont see them giving him Homer's old number so soon after his retirement.
  14. In all the years I've had to put up with the Versus/NBC gruesome twosome, I've never once heard anyone refer to Eddie Olczyk as "Enzo", it is definitely Edzo, as in the first two letters of his name followed by ZO. Say what you want about whether NBC in general has an anti-Wings bias, even non-hockey fans that have watched games with me have pointed out how negative Edzo is whenever he mentions the Red Wings organization or any of it's players, if I had a nickel for every "subtle interference" that I heard in the 08 and 09 playoff runs, I could retire now.

Doan staying in PHX 4 yrs $21.2 mill

So looks like Doan wants to be the first player to play for 3 different cities without changing teams.

    Pens Targeting Suter and Parise

I somewhat reluctantly admit to owning one of these, as well as a gray one, and I have never worn either of them in public, I don't even know what possessed me to buy then in the first place. My black one, however, is the only jersey that I own that still fits me. Back on topic, I agree with what some have said regarding Pittsburgh being a slightly more desirable destination than Detroit for free agents, however the fact that we have fewer players to re-sign with more money gives us an edge. If there is any truth to the rumor that they want to play together, it gives even more of an edge, as we can afford them both without having to count on a bottom-dweller taking an albatross of a contract off our hands. All things being equal, I still feel confident that we will sign at least one of them, but the fact that Pittsburgh is publicly talking about being interested is enough to make my stomach churn.

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

I wanted to hold my comments until it was official, because like just about everyone else here I didn't want to believe it could really be over. I don't use the words "pride" and "proud" to describe myself very often, but today I am proud to be a fan of the Detroit Red Wings. Even though it is likely going to be a difficult transition, I wish to thank Nick for his contributions to the success of my beloved team, and for being the kind of person that I have no reservations in counting among my role models.

    World Chapionship Streams

Wiziwig has multiple streams for each game, watched the Finland/Belarus game earlier at decent quality, though I've had a hard time with the Sweden/Norway game.

    2012 Free Agents

Would be pretty sweet if we could somehow snag Karlsson, he could turn out to be Lidstrom-like, at least offensively.

#7 San Jose Sharks vs. #2 St. Louis Blues

Feels icky to be cheering for the Blues, but I hope they knock the Sharks out tonight. (and then get knocked out next round of course)

So Who Do You Cheer For Now?

Hockey is essentially over for me, although I will still watch the finals no matter who is in it. The only teams I would not mind see winning this year are LA and Ottawa, anyone else would bother me on some level.

Have we seen the last of Holmstrom?

As much as I appreciate his contributions to the franchise, and the way in which he revolutionized the role of net-front presence, it is sadly time for him to hang up the skates and decide what he will do next. I just hope that Holland doesn't offer him a contract because you know he still has the desire, he has just become more of a liability than an asset with his body breaking down and his reputation costing us goals and scoring chances.
