  1. As much as I think they need a shake-up, I do not see the Red Wings making any major roster moves.

I think May will be waived, he will clear and spend the rest of the regular season in GR to be called up in the playoffs.

Lebda will either be waived, or traded for a low draft pick, it will mainly be a salary dump, but if we get something in return for him, that would be OK, especially given the prowess of our scouting staff with finding mid to late round gems.

I would like to see either Afinogenov or Kozlov brought in, but again I don't see it happening realistically, asking price for Afinogenov would be higher than we can afford, and Kozlov's cap hit would put us over.

  2. I actually think its time to break up the Helm-Draper-Eaves line. They have been good and hardworking, but I would much rather see Draper back on the 4th and Helm centering the 3rd. Breaking up this line just gives us so many more options for line combos.

Saw a little of this last night, Helm was out with Williams, Miller, and Cleary on his wings at different times in the 3rd, while Draper, Maltby and May hardly played at all.

I think Williams/Helm/Eaves or Williams/Helm/Cleary could be a good 3rd line if Babcock to keep Zetterberg and Datsyuk together on the 1st line.

    Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Holmstrom

    Franzen/Filppula/Bertuzzi

    Williams/Helm/Cleary

    Miller/Draper/Eaves

Gives us what we're used to, 2 very good top scoring lines, a 3rd line that has can provide secondary scoring and is defensively sound (Helm and Cleary more than cancel out Williams' defensive liability), and a 4th line of hard skating, high-energy grinders who are solid defenders and have just enough offensive knack.

  3. That's not a bad plan, and I like the schedule changes proposed too.

I think there should be serious consideration given to either relocating or expanding 1 or 2 teams in Canada, pick any decent-sized city and with the way that the league redistributes revenues, a franchise could survive and even thrive in a smaller Canadian market.

  4. Artyukhin, Evgeny for Lebda and Williams ?

Pretty please with a cherry on top

Doesn't exactly give us a top 6 forward, but I would definitely like to have Artyukhin on our team, he's a tough Euro and he gives Pavs someone to говорить руÑÑкий with. I was calling for this all off-season.

  5. Franzen is scoring at a 0.66 PPG pace, so if he returns to form, he should have 16 points over the last 24 games of the season.

Seriously though, I don't think anyone on here honestly thinks that all of the team's problems are going to magically vaporize once #93 is back on the ice, but the way things have been going this season, he can't do any worse than some of the guys who have been filling in while he was out.

Personally, I don't think he will get any goals in the 3 games before the Olympic break, but I hope I'm wrong.

  6. <wipes tear away>

I wasn't sure if I should have had "God Save the Queen" or "My Country 'Tis of Thee" running as a soundtrack behind that.

We don't need to tank to get good draft picks. We get guys like Z, Mule, Ericsson (I think he'll pan out in time), and those sort in the draft.

A bit of luck, a bit of scouting, a bit of believing in the people who work for this organization. Throw in a few judicious trades here and there. Add a couple of mid-summer signings.

No reason to tank. Just re-load. Old players will leave in time. Young guys will step up.

We don't throw the torch; we pass it.

I would have gone with "Battle Hymn of the Republic" as the soundtrack

  7. Spoken like a gentleman, sir.

Even if the Wings do break the longest post-season streak in professional sports this year :fingerscrossed:, the Ilitches, Holland, Yzerman, etc. have too much class to cut and run. There will be some retooling in the offseason, moves will be made that are consistent with the model franchise, and the Wings will be back on top soon enough, even as the media darlings fade into irrelevance again, and who knows, maybe they start a new streak next season.

  8. As much as I want Kozlov to retire a Wing, I don't think this is the right move for the team at this point, mainly for the cap hit, but also we are in danger of missing the playoffs, and while we need scoring, I don't think we necesasrily need to bring it in from the outside, we have guys that can score but just aren't playing up to what they're capable of.

That being said, I would have no problem if Kozlov signed here as a UFA in the offseason, for a much lower salary of course. He's still got it in him despite his disappointing numbers this year.
