  1. It's gonna take time for me to decide whether I'm happy about this off-season so far. I don't blame Filppula for sticking to his asking price, after all it is a business, but for everyone to be celebrating his departure when his replacement is a whopping $100k less per season is a bit ridiculous IMHO. Elsewhere, Alfredsson is an upgrade over Cleary, at least in terms of offensive production and the intangible "let's win the Cup for X veteran who has never won" factor. I'm not happy that Samuelsson scammed us out of a compliance buyout, I think we should just waive him and eat the cap hit. Also not happy about Brunner, nothing is official yet but it's sounding more and more likely that he's gone.

As of right now, I feel as though the Wings made some lateral moves, replacing players that I really liked with players that I could care less about. I also don't fault Holland for trades that the Wings may not have been able to make. Whatever else may happen, I'll be happy if Cleary and/or Samuelsson are not at our training camp. Ultimately I'm a fan of the Detroit Red Wings, so I'll support whoever is in the lineup.

  2. Well, if he wasn't gonna re-sign with Detroit, I guess this is as good a result as I could have hoped for, at least he didn't end up on a team that I despise. Looks like I won't be getting that Filppula Red Wings jersey this Christmas, perhaps a Filppula Bolts t-shirt and a blank Wings sweater until I decide who my new favorite Wing is.

  3. I'm not sure this is a great move by Jokerit either.

I don't think their attendance will suffer all that much, but I don't think they were turning much of a profit as it was, and now their travel costs will skyrocket. Combine that with them going from a top team in the FEL to an also ran in the KHL they will probably be losing a lot of money.

I'm not sure what advantages there are to teams joining the KHL from outside Russia, the league seems to make its rules up as they go, and it seems that they are slanted in such a way that the Russian clubs get all the advantages.

The further the league expands the more I wonder how long it can continue losing money like it does, but I guess most European Soccer/football clubs operate at massive losses as well and they are still operating strongly so maybe the KHL's model will work.

First thing that popped into my head when I heard this news: Their travel is going to SUCK now.

Their farthest opponent was only 332 miles (535km) away

Now their farthest opponent is 4445 miles (7155km)

  4. I vote Boston because:

    1. I hate Chicago and their "fans" who think their team is a legit dynasty even though most of them can't name who was captain before Toews.

    2. I hate Pittsburgh, their fans, Crosby, Malkin, Iginla, and the homerism of NBC.

    3. I don't want another team to win back-to-back Cups unless it's the Wings.

And the city of Boston could use some good feelings.

This, Boston/LA final is best-case scenario, with Boston winning, don't want either Pittsburgh or Chicago to even make the final

  5. Can you redo this one with todays date?

I didn't see this request until just now, but I see Up Against The Boards beat me to it, so thank you

So I thought long and hard about how I could make this even funnier, and in the end, I came up empty. Resizing a screen cap counts as a photoshop, right? :P

You gave me the perfect image to complete an idea I had last night, so thanks to you good sir (or ma'am):
