Just ask the penguins how easy it is to have quality depth when you pay two players max contracts. There is a reason why the penguins have failed repeatedly. The hawks are better off than the penguins because they actually seem to draft properly, but it will be difficult to find quality 3rd and 4th liners that aren't literal plugs. But on the other hand you cannot let Toews and Kane walk ever if you are the Blackhawks.

I think that Johansen is being the exact opposite. He has come out and said he wants to be a blue jacket and wants to be with them for a long time. Columbus is trying to do a Bridge deal because they can pay less for a few years. But that is a gamble in itself because you could be like Montreal and sign a bridge deal and then go see that person win a Norris Trophy, woops!

He's pulling stuff out of his ass, Boyle is 37 yrs old which means that his guess of what he would be looking for would give him a contract to 44. Absolutely 0 chance he gets that and also 0 chance he see's 5.5 to 6 from anyone else either. Boyle if he could be gotten on the cheap would be a good signing I think.

I think the cumulative aspect that might be considered is that if you have an undiagnosed concussion and get another hit while that is happening the symptoms and effects can get worse. theoretically it should be a single trauma, but with athletes you know that might not always be the case.

Puck Daddy had a whole series of these with writers from each team doing them. jagr ended up on 3 mt rushmores and a big joke about 'no jagr?' came up and was pretty funny. i agree with almost all the original ones posted here though.

Yea Capgeek has it at 250K, which is almost negligible in the long term. When he retires they won't have to pay him anything so for a team that was not financially well off, this is probably best... but holy crap they are gonna suck. If people didn't watch the devils at all they wouldn't realize how much kovalchuk actually does and how valuable he actually is. Hard to really contemplate this in its totality at the moment.

I would venture to guess abby has an incredibly low % chance, while tatar has far less competition at the end of the Slovak roster. The world championships rarely if ever include the best players from their respective countries and most won't be included in the olympic team, slovakia's team just isn't nearly as deep as USA so tatar has a better chance.

This is an overpayment... it feels like the "in good faith" contracts that holland can give out so that the player can reach and exceed their contract value. Except this one is just way crazier and I would be willing to bet a lot that it will never be reached... Lets just say this I'll take Franzen over Bickell at a 4m cap hit.

I don't know much about him in real life, but he's awesome in NHL 13, drafted him and 2 years later he is an 85 rating as a 20 yr old!! All kidding aside I believe that he hasn't had to adjust his game very much as he has been the big guy with superior talent for much of his life. Now that he is trying to make the big team it will very much be a matter of him actually needing to improve/change his game. The natural physical gifts are there and with the right direction I forsee success, and we know the wings give good direction.

Well at least we wont have to worry about the canucks representing the west, torts is awful for that team... way too many high skilled players unless torts changes his style.

im not sure why others perceive the national anthem as disrespectful in chicago, i think it is one of the coolest things in sports. I like in chicago so ive been to my fair share of the games and the emotion you get from it great. also it was definitely started in response to desert storm, not sure about the year. I think that the series will be really tight but that the bruins pull it out because they can play that tight hard fought game better than the hawks.

I think the career aspect is a bit of too much reading into it. There is so much uncertainty that comes along with an undiagnosed injury, which makes hte time frame hard to just assume he will be back. That is all I think this is.

NHL Network had the proper take on it, essentially the blue crease is the goalies and you cant literally camp out there, which shaw did. he made no effort to get out of the crease when the puck wasnt there. it was a bordeline call but the missed call on the franzen hit was too. i say it was all fair in playoff hockey.

I am a Detroit fan from Chicago, and I have the lovely perspective of being the away fan at the UC vs my dad being hte away fan at JLA. As for your questions 1 and 2 I don't know about 3. There was some representation for the blackhawks when I went to the sellout finale last year. So you won't be the only hawks fans there as the Hawks travel well. The people who don't do well in opposing barns are the ones that overtly talk smack to other people and ignore the fact they are surrounded by people who don't like who they are rooting for. It is just a recipe for disaster. You simply just need to be respectful, the fact you came here to even check means you likely are miles ahead of these people. As far as the experiences between the two, JLA is a million times better than the UC for an away fan. I have been to a wings game every year at the UC for many years. I can't count a single time where I didn't get one of: middle finger shoved in my face, yelled into my face, threatened to have beer thrown on me, or just general callous comments towards me. Now they aren't all combined at once, but still all happen. Luckily I am with my dad and my brother typically (im 27 now) who are Blackhawks fans. They are a buffer but walk alone down the hallways and things dont go well. This also isn't to say there aren't good blackhawks fans... I know plenty, but there are people who go out of their way to show their hatred for the Detroit red wings to the away fans. At JLA my dad came and the wings fans were generally nice to cordial to my dad. None of the above was even hinted at towards him. My dad didn't do anything outrageous besides the cheering and the random remark so I think you'll be ok. His comment to me was "I kind of feel bad because they treat you so badly at the UC compared to how I'm being treated here". So take what my experience is for what its worth. Enjoy the game!!!
