Three goals coming up for the Wings in the third; Wings win 4-1!!!
-
True but Dallas doesn't seem like the threat anymore. With Minnesota winning tonight it is looking like it will come down to us vs. CBJ for the last spot. If CBJ wins out (not at all unlikely vs. Dallas and Nashville) then the Wings must get at least 5 points from the last three games (i.e. no regulation losses). It's tough but doable. The only positive out of this situation is that the Wings are the only team out of these three that has destiny in their own hands -- Win and you're in.

Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

This season will be somewhat of a success if the Wings make the playoffs and keep the streak going. Winning a round would be a bonus in my opinion. -
That and how Sammy pertains to Yzerman anything.

Nice pants!

Danny is our Rudy. If only all of our players had his heart....

You do realise the game doesn't start for another 6 hours, right?

Saturday, October 11th, 1958. They lost 2-0 in Montreal. Sid Abel was our coach and we didn't make the playoffs that year It also happened on November 18th, 1926 when the Detroit Cougars lost 2-0 to the Bruins in a game played in Windsor, ON. Also, November 15th, 1928 the Detroit Cougars lost 2-0 to the NYR in Detroit. So, only the fourth time in franchise history and the second as the Red Wings. Something else that's interesting... From 1940-41 to 1954-55, Detroit went 14-0-1 in season openers. But in franchise history, they are just a few games above .500.

I've always thought Pavel could turn into Larionov in his 40's and get 5-10 goals and about 40-50 assists. Sure he wouldn't be the 90 point superstar of today but he would still be a hell of an asset. I for one look forward to another 3-4 years of 'superstar Pavel' followed by another 6-7 years of 'Larionov Pavel'

I tried to find this one picture of Bouwmeester where the caption reads something along the lines of 'I am tough to play against' but was unable to. I did however stumble upon these two gems while searching...

"By rejecting the offer Green becomes a restricted free agent." It seems to me that if he becomes RFA we can submit an offer. If the Caps low-balled him with a 1-yr $5m deal then they probably wouldn't match a 3-year $6m/year offer. Then again, you never know with these things. It's worth a shot, no?
-
Hmmm, could we finally have a replacement for Rafalski on our hands? I say with all that cap space and nowhere to spend it, throw a 2-3 year $6m deal at Green. If we could land him, suddenly our D looks half-decent. And if we could get Semin as well...

This is what some of you people seem like: Edit: Seriously though, a team doesn't improve only by adding new players. How about improving from within? How about getting back a 80-90pt Zetterberg? A 90pt Datsyuk? A 25 goal Cleary? A motivated Franzen? A 50pt Kronwall? Maybe Ericsson turns into a solid top 4 d-man. Maybe Smith takes a huge step forward and becomes one of those rookies that other teams always seem to have (you know the ones that play great right away instead of taking 8 years to develop). Maybe this Brunner guy scores 30? Who knows?

Unfortunately that day is not here just yet....

It's probably just people feeling like he has peaked and this would be a good time to trade him because you would get the maximum in return. I can understand why some people feel that way. Still, I'd rather have Flip here. Then he should sign with us. Yea, what can you do. It's just the way the NHL has gotten to be. These long term contracts are ruining the league. Maybe another lockout is looming? I agree with everything you said. And if that ends up happening I'm sure the Wings will benefit in some way. But it is a gamble, and even Holland can't win them all. But you're definitely right about something needing to change. Otherwise we're looking at another 100pt season and a 1st/2nd round exit. I just wish it was a signing (Doan, Semin?) rather than a trade.
-
So, we are gonna land Bobby Ryan and still somehow hang on to Franzen, Nyquist, Brunner, Helm, Abdelkader, Quincey and Smith? Even if they wanted to trade Ryan for Filppula, Cleary and Kindl, I wouldn't be too crazy about that deal. I don't know why everyone is s***ting on Flip. The guy had a career year (finally). He's only going to get better. I'd rather trade Franzen for Ryan (more because of the length of Franzen's contract than any thing else). Also, I think Doan would be one hell of an addition but $5.75m? I know he could probably get that from a dozen teams in today's market but that would be an overpayment imo. The guy is 36 after all. Unless we're talking one year deal?

Yea see that's another thing. "Continuing the winning tradition." Ever since the lock-out this team has been cautious in making big changes to the roster. Signing Suter would've been awesome at the right price and term length. And I guess it would've been great if he was signed for 13 years and $90m like Kenny offered. But only because we are desperate for D-men, not because Suter is that good. IMO, these new contracts are getting way out of hand. How the hell does Parise deserve $12m this season while Jimmy Howard gets only $2.25m? It's outrageous. As far as trading for Ryan or Yandle, or even Nash... I think it would be great if we had these guys on our team because we have the cap space. But if you trade Franzen and Filppula and some youth/picks for Ryan or Nash, what have you really added? Same goes for adding Yandle. Edit: Btw, isn't it time you changed your avatar?

I totally agree about not relying on past success and also about the Wings being a stale group since that SCF loss. In fact, ever since, the way the Wings play hockey has been stale. It almost feels like the other teams have figured us out. And it makes you wonder how the St. Louis Blues can come out of nowhere and almost win the Presidents' Trophy. Even more so, how does an 8th seeded team win the whole thing! (Parity, I know, I know.) All I'm saying is that making a signing or two would make us better (and excite the fan base) but it doesn't guarantee success. And this team is still a good team. Like Holland said; Any team with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Filppula, Kronwall, Howard and Helm on it is a good team.

After 21 straight years of winning, you would think the fans would have a little more faith than this.
-
Sure we have a weak D on paper as it stands. But they might just pleasantly surprise us. Look at 2007-08 and 2008-09: 07-08 we had 257GF and 184GA, won SC. 08-09 we had 295GF and 244GA, lost in SCF. The point is that in 09 we had Lidstrom and Stuart, and some of the other guys we have now but our D still sucked. And we still almost won the cup (BS imo).
-
Here's the thing, though... Our excitement as fans has zero impact on the team's performance.
-
They're not even gonna make the playoffs. The only way they finish ahead of us is if we have one s***ty ass year.

NJD/LAK: 4-1

When I opened this thread, I thought it was going to be about something entirely different.
