Brian Rafalski announces retirement after 11 NHL seasons
HankthaTank replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
Right, his mobility was awful toward the end there. Bogosian would be alright but I still would love to see if we can make a try at a franchise dman. This will no doubt insight 80 lines threads in the next month Shall be interesting. -

Lots of $ to spend. Fear not, we will make it work. Take your boy Hudler's 2.875 off the books and we are sitting beautifully. -

As it had to be. Defensively this was one of the worst seasons in memory and still finished 3rd in the conference. Oh, what might have been. Regardless, this is a sign of moving forward and getting some fresher faces. Sad but a necessary move to make things happen. -

You actually spell it Ehrhoff but yeah, maybe he's a possibility. -

Ehh, let's not get crazy here man. All signs point to Smith not being quite ready for the NHL yet and a top 4? Maybe in 2-3 years or so. We have to make a move somewhere here. -

Sad and good day for the Wings as we are taking a step in a different direction.... Just a weird feeling right now. -

Raf just did one for the organization I bet. I can see it just being a tough decision to make on his part, obviously but this helps the cap space immensely and we can make a damn splash now. Just still kind of unreal to think this currently. Starts to hold more water though if you look back at his body of work of late and skating, etc. -

Yeah, I know you weren't, and read mine above. Regardless, Nick can take an even higher discount now with Raf's contract not there to compare, yes? I know that isn't a feasible idea but sounds quite appealing doesn't it? -

And also realizing you aren't comparing them as players but I can't see one decision affecting the other. This in fact frees up a s*** ton of cap space to do many different things. -

6 mill off the books is great but pretty crappy ending for him as well. I am guessing his knees just couldn't take much more. We have to see what develops from this but loved having Raf for the past few seasons, but this is a move I didn't see coming whatsoever. Umm, an aging Rafalski who could barely skate in his own zone and was more around for his puck controlling holds little comparison to the Norris candidate Lidstrom. Just sayin' here. -

WTF happened?!?! -
Right.. If that's the case, we'll take Carle for Hudler. I mean they both have been in the KHL

Notable Restricted/Unrestricted Free Agents in 2011
HankthaTank replied to The Russian Rocket's topic in General
Yeah, I'd take him in a second. Again, fills that need for the Wings. Big defenseman who actually uses his frame, so not to bring this up but someone not like Ericsson -
Hellz yeah! The person below me like roast.
-
Yeah, this is definitely the most sensible move to make. A place to mentor a young Russian goalie and step in to be a #1 right away, assuming he is up to par.
-
I wish. The rest would also be pretty tough to make happen here. Wiz and Bieksa are at the top of my list to be paired with Kronner though. Valtteri Filppula / Pavel Datsyuk / Patrick Sharp And yes. Yes, please.
-
Nashville most likely wouldn't be affected as I see them going to the Eastern Conference; just speculation. I totally agree about the Wild's "watching grass grow" play though.
-
Nah, I can clean. The person below me thinks they're ain't no party like a Detroit party 'cuz a Detroit party don't stop.

Spot on. I do not understand that thought process one bit. I know not every single native Canadian thinks along these lines but I know it's pretty damn close to becoming a border war with those fans. But, we then become irrational by even pointing out their sense of amazingness as the 'founding nation of hockey. Meh, whatever, I have found my peace on this topic and almost feel bad for those who try and justify cheering on another Canadian team just so they can say they "won the Cup".

Mursak-Helm-Eaves = Speed The potential for that being the 4th line is enough to have me excited. The rest of the forward lines will look basically the same with Drapes and Modo hanging them up. Miller probably comes back at the same salary although he was pretty replaceable as well. Good but not anything we can't bring in from GR. The defense is the point of emphasis and Salei and Ericsson are definitely the ones on their way out. If a trade is the way we make this happen, I am sort of hoping that Hudler is included in this deal. Just not all sure what we can get for him now.

Joey T is above "tweets". Anyways, haven't been able to watch the past few games due to the cable being down but I am definitely pleased with this result. Sharkies just can't get it done, again.
-
Yeah, WTF is this team? Winning streak followed by a losing streak. It's frustrating to an insane degree. The starting pitching has been so good and then we can't hit or the bullpen comes in and s***s the bed. Inconsistency to any team will end with us around 3rd place at this rate. Thankfully, this division is horrible and might keep us in it.
-
Spectacular. LOL of the day by far.

Not doing capgeek stuff but I see it going this way (with some line predictions sprinkled in because your my boy, blue!) Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary Bertuzzi-Abdelkader-Miller/Hudler (whatever) Mursak-Helm-Eaves (sexy looking isn't it?) Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-UFA Stuart-Kindl Howard UFA Not sure how Hudler works himself into this lineup whatsoever. Would rather he becomes that salary dump and we use that cap hit to an overall real need.
