I thought Legwand has been great as a center, can anyone explain to me putting him on the 4th as 41's winger? Is it just to have a pure shutdown line or what?

Going to a three point system has been mulled over for years. I think switching the qualifications to make the playoffs should be changed to the teams that have the most ROW. This eliminates the shootout as any kind of deciding factor for teams to get in, and has no effect on standings until a tie. Points would be a good secondary tiebreaker. I always thought GF was a bad tiebreaker, does't seem fair to defensive teams. I would be fine with the season series used as a tiebreaker, or even goal differential. For the record, I personally think shootout is better than a tie. Changing to ROW would keep anti shootout people happy, and keep the shootout in the game with less weight.

Maybe they can just do a best of three between shootout, hardest shot, and accuracy. That seems like the most fair right?

The main thing I am for is taking power away from the shootout. I do agree giving less credit for losing in overtime is troubling, but I am fine with that. Should we let team A get in who won more 3 more in overtime? Or is Team B better because they happened to make it to overtime more times than team A, even if it resulted in a loss. Taking out some of the reward just for getting to OT or SO, will result in less teams trying to trap the game up if a W has more meaning. I feel like too many team may look at OT and SO "extra points time" when it should just be deciding who gets the W. This should result in more exciting hockey IMO. I do like the 3 point system you proposed however.

Whats wrong with having a strong third line with Legwand at the center? They would have to try Sheahan at wing a C is bound to get hurt to open up a spot anyway. Z-D-Alfie Franzen-Weiss-Nyquist Tatar-Legwand-Jurco Ab-Helm-Sheahan Miller-Andy-Glendenning/Callahan/Ferraro Jurco probably won't start with the team but a new "two kids..." line looks pretty good. It would be nice to have the privilege of another skill guy to go with D and Z. Yea, it's nice to have a "puck retriever" on that line, but its not like those three aren't already the hardest working guys on the team. Man they going to have a surplus of F next year, but those lines look niiiiice

For the first time in a long time I think we can say, our D is too inexperienced. We need some vets on the back end. I feel getting someone like Robidas would help out greatly.

I live in Columbus and have family in Toledo so I have a chance to go to many CBJ games and a few DRW games a year. I don't know about you guys, but when I end up going to games its because I wanted to go and made a decision to go. I love hockey so I always enjoy myself and don't really care if the guy next to me is doing a crossword puzzle or some vapid businessman not there for hockey, I am going to have a good time because there is hockey being played. Hockey games aren't the only place I have ever been where people lack self-awarness, I don't know about you guys. Shame on people for being so bitter about little things, and if I had good seats and an empty seat and someone wanted my extra I would most certainly give it up and not worry if my coat has a good seat. I can see getting upset if you have children and people around you are being belligerent but even than, you know you're going to a place where they serve alcohol. ENJOY THE GAME PEOPLE!!

They said today that 10/14 game is at 1pm, which happens to be on a Monday. What is the sense in having a game that early on a weekday? I realize it's Columbus day, but thats not exactly an observed holiday. LAME

In a league where it's already hard enough to differentiate your players that are on the ice you think anything to set them apart would be encouraged really. You think a guy like Ovechkin tucking his jersey, making him instantly recognizable on the ice, would actually be a positive thing.

Although the D somehow came out of last year looking better than most of us had thought, I feel they absolutely must get an other top four guy by the trade deadline. Honestly, any of our 2-7 guys go down and we are not in bad shape. My main concern is if Kronwall were to miss any kind of time, especially in the playoffs. A D corps in the playoffs consisting of Ericsson or Quincey as the vets, just seems to me like it would be missing too much experience, and composure. We do have a great coaching staff that has done great work with what we have, they can only do so much though. I honestly feel like Kindl will take a big step next year on the PP, and that he may have already taken that step from what I saw in the playoffs. The main need I feel right now is of a stay at home guy. With that said what does everyone feel here may be our best options as far as a trade goes? Also, if you had to choose one of Quincey-Lashoff-Smith to trade who would it be? At this point if we end up clearing space I wouldn't be against taking a chance with Hal Gill as the #7 guy, we'd be giving up nothing for him and always could package him at the deadline for something. For the record I wouldn't be totally opposed to trading Smith. Those three are't that far apart in skill I feel like, and Smith's return on a trade would be the most worthy.

That's pretty much why I am willing to part with someone like Smith, we need to make a cup run NOW. That and it appears we have a dancing plethora of D prospects waiting to come up. GMRwings is that Maynard?

Exactly. The team is two over the roster limit, so clearly some changes have to be made right?

I really just feel like another vet is needed, even if just as an insurance policy. It would be nice to see a list of Dmen with expiring contracts.

Just saw other teams in my division have games at nationwide. Oh man i hope everyone gets a game there that's amazing!

I play for the Leagues in Columbus also. I knew they had a drop in tomorrow on nationwide ice. I hadnt heard about any games there yet though, thhat would be awesome.

Just a crazy thought but if Brunner and nyquist both make the roster some thing like this looks interesting to me on paper: Flippula/Z/Samuelsson Nyquist/Datayuk/Brunner Franzen/Helm/Cleary Tootoo/Abdelkader/Bertuzzi Miller/Emmerton/Mursak Eaves-IR Emmerton most likely waived in that situation, and Eaves on IR since we can't actually ice a 5th line. I really think Nyquist is smart enough to play on Datsyuks line. Cleary could very well get top line minutes if he's healthy. Still kind of pains me I see Abdelkader at center but there really isn a whole lot of room for another winger at this point, however.

NJ and NSH should just trade Weber and Parise straight up EDIT: But on second thought, I definitely think NSH could get more out of NJ than just Parise for Weber.
