Zetterberg Auto signing, 9/23 - Hockeytown Authentics
Detroit40oz replied to VladyIBELIEVE16's topic in General
you should! and on second thought, i definitely am gonna go anyways no matter what i end up with to get signed. ideally what id want is a north stars modano item, a jersey if possible, but id settle with a pic. i know of a few 8x10 modano north stars pics exist, but hopefully i could find a bigger one. id get a wings item, but modano was my favorite non wing player growing up, and the north stars are my favorite defunct team, which i know sounds totally weird but whatever, haha. the minnesota wild are my 2nd favorite team after the wings, so its a nice minnesota thing going on there. i gotta get this done for sure. -

jasonnewera, great pics and an awesome drawing who all is on that? i can make ou a few more from the top angle like draper, lidstrom, i think burr, robitaille, filpulla, pretty sure one of datsyuk's autograph forms, mccarty. post an upright full size of that for sure, it looks completely rad. -

nice! i would have went with the jersey too. i have a couple signed jerseys, but i really cant find it in myself to still want to wear one if i got it signed. i was thinking about getting a zetterberg winter classic just for this signing, but it was way too short notice to be able to scrape up the cash. i picked up a flyer today for the modano signing at the store a few down from hockeytown authentics thats going down next month, and i think i might pull the trigger on that if i can get the $120 or whatever it'll cost for a modano ccm vintage north stars jersey, its a 40 dollar signing, and if i spent that kinda cash, id want something nicer than an 8x10 for sure. not that 40 bucks is a horrible price, its definitely pricey for modano, but fair i think for an in store kinda deal. plus who knows when hes gonna retire and set up shop back west. -

Its what my mom got signed, haha. I had the 8x10 and she bought the puck at hockeytown authentics. I had another 8x10, but she wanted to get the puck and bought it, so thats fine with me. there was still abunch of people behind me, and i was happy enough just to get through the line as is since i didnt have a wristband, so i didnt try and go back in for another sig. but chris chelios did a free signing at verizon wireless in canton a couple months ago, and he was fine with signing a second item, but there were tons more people at this. plus it was a charity thing, and trying for two items would have been a dick move, but im sure a few people tried. -

I only had one class at 9am today and s*** else to do, so I left an hour before the class ended and picked up my mom (she got me into hockey and collecting red wings stuff 20 years ago at age 5). We got to hockeytown authentics at 10:50 on a slim chance of still being able to get a wrist band, and they were out. I guess the line wrapped all the way around the building and there were 400 people there well before 10am. I figured this was gonna happen, so I waited around for the long haul, explored troy a bit, and went back to hockeytown authentics at 3:00. probably a total of about 100-150 people showed up that didnt have a wrist band, and zetterberg signed for everyone. victory. -
going to the Joe for the first time
Detroit40oz replied to spongebob is a wings fan's topic in General
I'd highly suggest taking a 5 minute walk to and from the joe to the core of downtown, and hitting up Lafayette Coney Island. if you want detroit food, thats detroit food. and served by the most epic greek dudes ever. its like our poutine. Todd Bertuzzi and a dozen or so other wings fully support this establishment in the form of framed pics on the wall too and you can always trust the mustache: theyve also been featured on the food network and travel channel, along with the neighboring "american coney island". they debate over who was in detroit first, and its been almost a 100 year thing of this coney rivalry. but trust lafayette to deliver the goods, and the mustaches. heres the food wars episode with both of them. american ends up winning in a tie breaker, but food wars is not to be trusted. trust the mustache. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO3_0qlcN2k -

Detroit40oz replied to MCleveland89's topic in General
i didnt have my camera on me when i was there, but here's what i got signed: 1998 stanley cup finals inglasco puck by kocur: and a circa 1995-97ish detroit red wings promo sunoco stick. its got a blue shaft and abunch of red wings and sunoco logo's all up and down it and ive had it forever, but i have so many different things with mccarty's sig on them and i didnt have a stick, so i got that :] -
Where to buy "Fight night at the Joe" print?
Detroit40oz replied to Copenhagen848's topic in General
i seen 16x20 prints of this for sale at the mccarty/kocur signing at gibraltar trade center in taylor this weekend. 20 bucks. you can also buy it from dc sports for 30 bucks on ebay, and arrange to pick it up in their store and not pay the 10 dollars extra for shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/Darren-Mccarty-vs-Claude-Lemieux-Fight-16x20-Photo-/270554268489?pt=Vintage_Sports_Memorabilia&hash=item3efe4a8349 -
Where to buy "Fight night at the Joe" print?
Detroit40oz replied to Copenhagen848's topic in General
looks like the regular photo, just altered brightness/contrast. anyways, you should be able to find a 16x20 inch photo print of this around detroit sports card shops or possibly gibraltar trade center card shows. i remember several people back around 1997 trying to collect vernon, shanny, and mccarty's sigs on 16x20 prints of this picture, and im sure unsigned ones are still around. you could probably find a signed one too if you looked hard enough. it would be easier to find an 11x14 print of it though, and im sure you arent going for an 8x10 since its for wall hanging purposes, but you'd have zero issues finding one of those in any store that has a decent selection of wings photos. good luck -
it completely depends on what someone is willing to spend on it. you didnt post a pic or any details, so i have zero idea of what you have, so that doesnt help either. and i wouldnt go by the website posted above. its a reputable company, but they charge the highest possible price for their stuff, and that doesnt reflect what you would get for something similar at all if you were to try and sell it. assuming your autographed photo is an 8x10, and the signatures are nice and clean, you would probably get anywhere between 70-100 dollars, and more if you have a certificate of authenticity from a reputable source or proof of authenticity of some form. the frame wouldnt increase or decrease its value by much, assuming its a basic frame. peep ebay completed listings for an idea of what people are spending on whatever it is you have, theres always a few things signed by the production line both up for auction and completed listings. i'd hang on to it though, its only gonna increase in value. ive been collecting red wings things and autographs since i was 5, and im 25 now. i got this 8x10 signed when i was 7 or 8 and have zero plans of selling it, ever.

yeah, i dont think crosby seen much of the handshake line either.
-
this was the case last season aswell. I always get standing room because its easy to get in and out, and you can get just as close as people with 60 dollar seats. premium games were 35 dollars that I went to (chicago, boston) while the base price for a standing room ticket was 30 dollars (minnesota, columbus)

Marty Turco, Jack Johnson, Ryan Kesler appearance Tuesday at Best Buy
Detroit40oz posted a topic in General
EDIT: I put in the subject line that its at the Westland, MI. location but it was probably too long so it was cut short. Here's the address: 35100 Cowan Rd Westland, MI 48185 Phone: 734-525-0334 "The NHL2K11 RV is leaving Chicago, next stop Detroit. Come check us out, this Tuesday at the Best Buy at Westland Mall, from 11am-2pm, where you'll get a chance to demo the game before it hits stores and meet NHL players Ryan Kesler, Jack Johnson and Marty Turco!" http://2ksports.com/games/NHL2K11 http://www.facebook.com/NHL2K awesome! UPDATEEE: The 2K website updated the player appearances schedule with 4 stops over two days throughout the detroit area. I really dont have anything on hand for these dudes to sign aside from hockey cards, but i'd rather go for an 8x10 or pucks since that's what I ideally collect autographs on, so I'm just gonna get 3 photo mattes that fit 8x10 pictures, and then eventually get 8x10 photos somewhere down the line for each of them. they might have posters for the game itself (ryan kesler is on the cover) but the game looks horrible and i dont have or care about a wii anyways . NHL 95' FOREVER. -
Marty Turco, Jack Johnson, Ryan Kesler appearance Tuesday at Best Buy
Detroit40oz replied to Detroit40oz's topic in General
Just got back from the signing at Best Buy. pretty epic s***. there were no more than 100 people there, and they had free posters to sign (about 20x30") and I got a couple other things signed. I'd suggest hitting up one of these signings to anyone here that collects autographs. only ryan kesler is doing the signings tomorrow, but its free and he's the main dude on the poster, 75 point scorer and an olympic silver medalist. plus turco, johnson, and kesler are all doing the signing tonight between 5-7pm outside of comerica park. do it up. ryan kesler 8x10 matte... this should look rad once i get a good pic for it :]:thumbup::thumbup: -

I updated my original post with more Detroit area stops that were announced. Turco, Kesler, and Johnson are also gonna be signing outside of the Tigers game on tuesday from 5pm-7pm, maybe you can make that one :] otherwise just Kesler will be making two stops on Wednesday. -

hahahahhahaha im mostly going for ryan kesler, i dont even have any worthy stars/blackhawks/la kings s*** for turco or jack johnson to sign. although i might pull a "hey jack johnson, can you sign this?" -
Ive wanted a CCM vintage North Stars Modano jersey for years, so if I were to throw down on a Modano jersey, it would be that one. I would also throw down on a Modano wings jersey after first copping the North Stars CCM if I had the cash, but I really ******* HATE reebok jerseys, and having a CCM style redwings modano jersey would just look stupid since he didnt play in that brand/style of jersey as a red wing. so based on my hatred of reebok premier jerseys, I guess I wouldnt buy a Modano wings jersey, although I would really want one if it didnt have to be a horribly overpriced and form fitting reebok premier.

if you want a decent bitrate mp3 of the song instead of a ringtone or muddy youtube version, i could rip the 1997 playoff cd for you and send it to your email addy. hit me up at detroit40oz@hotmail.com and ive got you i could send the whole cd (4 tracks) or just the hey hey hockeytown track. the songs on it are: 1.) kid rock's "no party like a detroit party" intro 2.) get up (the arena version, which isnt actually the kiss version but some detroit dudes covering it) 3.) hey hey hockeytown 4.) american/canadian national anthem live by karen newman

"Weddings are among the most exciting [of events], and this will be really cool," said Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall. ahhahahaha, that quote rules.

these are my most recent ebay pick ups, i havent bought anything new in the last few months though. i picked up that jimmy howard griffins auto for a ridiculously low price, like $3.00 including shipping. i got it back in november before he broke out into full time fury, so im guessing i probably wouldnt be able to pick it up for as low as i did then ;]. its not an NHL card though so i wouldnt consider it a rookie, its from a 2007 AHL set. and the ciccarelli jersey cards were awesome deals aswell. i got the north stars one for 2 or 3 dollars and the capitals one for around 5 bucks, # 33/99

its not 2003 anymore, and the guys not worth what he'd want at all either. i'd like to see him get a cup before he's done because he was one of my favorite players as a kid, but it wouldn't happen here.
-
as for binders, a couple months ago i bought a pack of 100 9 pocket sleeves and a new binder. I went through all my non team set cards, and i compiled a pretty solid 70 page binder of strictly wings. it was all cards from like 1986 to 2010, and i organized it first by player alphabetically, and then the year of the card. kinda OCD s***, but definitely cool to flip through. i didnt wanna focus multiple pages per player unless they had lengthy careers with the wings, in which case a few choice players got multi pages of cards spanning their time with the wings.
-
i dig peeping collection pics ive never took scans or pics of my actual card collection, but i did start taking pics awhile back of the signed stuff. it got really tedious though so i stopped half way. i'll probably get around to it sooner or later though just to sort of digitally organize s***, haha. heres pics of a large portion of my wings/nhl player auto's though, which does include some cards to make it relevant to this tread. its on myspace, but it was easier at the time to upload there than photobucket. i dont really go on my profile anymore though. http://www.myspace.com/rastadubman_j/photos/albums/hockey-autograph-stuff-collections/3214909 some of the card pics are be a player auto's. i used to buy packs of those all the time when i was a kid. more often than not it would be some s***ty common card though, but it was always fun though. now pretty much every set these days has an autographed insert set, which is still very awesome. i need to get my grip on some wings auto/jersey combos.

thanks! nhl2k is definitely a key game. I probably put more time into that than any other nhl game. if you've never played it and just had that poster to look at for years, its worth buying a used dreamcast and a copy of it. you could snag both for probably less than 40 bucks ;].

actually under 100 for a professionally graded yzerman o pee chee rookie is a good price for sure. ...if its a card with a 9.0 grade. heres an example of a completed auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/1984-85-Steve-Yzerman-Rookie-RC-OPC-O-Pee-Chee-BGS-9-/190401045707?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_Hockey_Trading_Cards&hash=item2c54c964cb a 9.0 is almost perfect, and the difference between that and a 10 aren't much, but an yzerman rookie graded 10 could easily go for a few hundred. ive never seen one personally, but ive seen a 9.5. a 10 is the best it can get, and for a card thats 26 years old, being completely 100% perfect is a rarity. even if it was immediately put in a card sleeve pulled fresh from a pack in 1984, its centering and the cut could be make it a 7. cosmetically and centering wise, the difference between a card that receives a grade of 8.0 and 9.0 are somewhat small, and most people are fine with having an yzerman rookie that just looks good enough to display. some probably wouldnt care if its a topps or an o pee chee. i normally wouldnt care myself. im a pretty broke dude, and i collect for the fun of it and i like to occasionally look through binders and boxes of cards remembering old days. an yzerman o pee chee however was something i'd splurge cash to the best of my ability to get the best possible condition one i can. i've got a few ungraded topp's yzerman rc's and 3 ungraded o pee chee's in great condition. probably 8-8.5's if graded... those OPC's are cards that would currently fetch between 40-50 if i tried selling them (half book value like you said) but graded cards are a whole different game. also a topps yzerman rookie in great shape could probably be had for 20 bucks on ebay.
