Blashill: I agree 100% with Blash. If your expectations were he was going to perform the way he did in juniors then it's your own fault for setting your own expectations that high. He had a broken leg and was injured before the playoffs. Absolutely nothing wrong with him performing at .5 PPG for his first AHL season against actual men. Patience from the Wing fanbase should be expected.... -

Also he didn't have a proper training camp like the other guys. He started it, got injured before the season started then had to get back into shape while healing his injured leg. The fact he scored .5 PPG is pretty good, he was also playing on the 3rd/4th lines for awhile as well getting limited minutes and being stuck with Potter didn't help. Edit: Forgot he was also injured before the playoffs as well. -

I think he was trying to figure it out while the Wings were in a nose dive. To start the season he should be in a much better place with team playing to their standards. -

Right but what I am saying is there is no accurate advanced stat that could measure something like that. Saying we lost when Datsyuk plays doesn't justify anything really, It could have been the opponents, it could have been other players causing turnovers, I mean it could be anything. -

Doubt it was because Datsyuk wasn't playing. They can't even enter the zone without him and I am dreading the day he retires because of that. -

You said he can ask for more then Tatar but based off last year he shouldn't be because he wasn't very good 5 on 5. I still believe Tatar will be the better player based off all the evidence compared to Nyquist so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tatar was far and away the better player last year. Nyquist struggled 5 on 5 to generate anything, and Tatar's possession number rivaled Datsyuks. Last season, of all forwards who have played at least 200 minutes at 5v5 in the NHL, Datsyuk and Tatar are in #1 and #2 respectively in 5v5 CF%. Tatar helped drive our offense immensely.
