Making the Detroit Red Wings, who drafted him in the seventh round of last summer’s draft, once again look like THE draft gurus of the hockey world, Axel Holmstrom began the season on fire with five points in his first three games. Coming back to earth after that, the 6’1”, 200-pound forward continued to learn on the job and became one of Skelleftea’s strongest players in a season where the team was desperate for its youth to step up to the plate in a big way. His ability to do this was put on full display in the SHL playoffs when he led the entire league in scoring with 18 points in 15 games, despite losing out to Vaxjo four games to two in the final. In total, Holmstrom went from being a home-grown prospect to a playoff power play go-to guy who finished the year with 17 goals and 38 points in 59 games to go along with a +10 rating. Along the way, he put up seven points in seven WJC games on a line with Nylander. With a bit more to learn about life as a pro, it is felt that the Red Wings will allow him to spend another season with the championship caliber Skelleftea club before testing his mettle on North American soil.

Haha yeah ... Ferraro has had a nice year though after signing at one-year deal so why not reward him as he's still fast (not as fast as AA I'm aware) and probably a safer Defensive play than AA

Because he has 270 games of AHL experience playing against men (plus 4 NHL games) versus AA's 52 Games

Looks likes its a precaution in case Datsyuk can't go but also from the article they may choose him over Cleary which I doubt people would be upset about. He's fast and has been scoring goals in the AHL but that prob wont translate if Pulky cant do it.

Datsyuk left the game in the 3rd after taking a hit by Scuderi and going into the corner of the glass at the end of the bench. Looked like he banged up his shoulder. I guess we'll wait for Ansar Khan to update...
