The Federal Hockey League is a new Single A level Pro League and I beleive you can tryout for most teams still. Check out their website

U of D Mercy has a team that has practices open to any full time student which is very cool for defraying costs of ice time and team supplies.

I can't wait to see Avery and Boogard together this year on the Rangers. I'm sure I'll get some s*** for saying that.

The Eastside Elite Hockey league started as a summer league for junior to pro players to keep in shape in the summer from the metro detroit area. They now have training camps for youth players led by former NHL ers that play in the league. I checked out a game before one of my hockey games at Mt. Clemens ice arena, and I have to say it is some good high level hockey. And it's free! http://www.eastsideelitehockey.com/

The AAHL currently only has 3 teams The West michigan blizzard, the battle creek revolution and the chi town shooters. But there is another AAA Pro league coming out this year in addition to the AAHL called the FHL. the FHL has teams mainly in the notheast US with one team in ontario. this year the Central Hockey league absorbed the IHL so the ECHL and CHL are the only AA Pr leagues. It seems that most of the lower level pro leagues don't last. People need to support these teams, its good hockey all over michigan.
