Personally, I think its gimmicky and stupid. Plus, I'm sure a lot of the main people pushing so hard for him to wear it are the people from Commodore themselves to help promote their new Commodore 64 computer, and nerds who don't give a s*** about hockey or the Wings and just think it cool that there might be a player in some sport with a "Commodore 64" jersey.

Not related to this topic at all, but I find it funny that this comment gets so many +1 votes now that its summer. If this same comment had been made during the finals, when almost everyone here was on the "Yay! Go Boston!" bandwagon, it would have gotten like -30.

I'm glad they are endorsing some quality s*** and not some trendy fad flourescent colored plastic hipster watches or whatever other flavor of the minute is hot now in pop culture. Breitlings are one of my favorite watches, even though I can't afford one. But if I ever win the lottery, you can bet after a new Jeep and house, a Breitling would likely be next on the list.

All color guys are somewhat biased, thats the point of a color guy. I don't think Mick is as crazy biased as some people claim though. I mean...he routinely calls out BS calls, like every game, when its the Wings going to the PP. You don't see too many other announcers doing that, they only complain about bad calls going against them.

If I as Commodore, I'd set up a paypal account and pick a dollar amount and say "if it reaches that amount, then I'll wear 64, so make it happen." (then pick it anyway regardless of the amount raised, cause as you said, its charity.) That way you get actual money, not just theoretical "pledges". And it gives people an incentive to donate to try to reach the mark. I don't like the "pledge" idea for a simple reason. Its meaningless. A lot of those people are not going to come through on their pledge. People say a lot of s***. Action is the only thing that matters. Donate to the paypal account, then its a done deal. No "pledge" to possibly donate some money. I think Mike really wants to wear the number, i think its more a matter of if they'll let him wear it. If there is a lot of money going to charity, maybe Holland, Babs and company would be more open to the idea.

Agreed. Not only does this NOT take the sting off the E contract, it makes it sting a whole hell of a lot more. As I mentioned in the other thread, this is going to f*** with the other Wings' heads, and mess up team morale, knowing that most of them signed bargain contracts to help the team, while a money hungry bum like E gets a ridiculous 3.25 mil undeservedly thrown at him.

More importantly, as was already pointed out, this move by Holland sets a horrible precedent and hurts team morale and on top of that, is going to drive up the prices our other players start asking by millions. (I mean, s***, imagine what Kronwall is going to ask for now, seeing someone like E get such an insane contract) Think about it. All the other guys now have to play knowing that a s*** player like E is making over 3 mil while most of them signed contracts for less than they are worth. Imagine how Jimmy must feel. Jimmy is a true Red Wing. He came off a Caulder caliber year and signed a 2 mil contract knowing damn well he could have gotten a ton more playing elsewhere. Whereas E asks for the moon and sky, after doing nothing but declining play-wise, or at the very best, remaining stagnent, over the past couple seasons. And he is going to make more than Kronwall this season? Thats completely and utterly retarded. I know Nick gets a raise next year, but still... This signing does a whole lot more than damage up monetarily. It really f***s up the other players heads knowing most of them are signed to contracts for less than they are worth, while s***ty ass E is making over a million more than he is worth each year.
