I think that's exactly what's happening. They're signing more stop gaps until the the kids are ready. It's been the plan for the last 3 years. They don't want to pay inflated market value for others team youth when they know we have a crap ton of our own on the way. EDIT: Plus we're going to be end up against this the cap this year after signings and it will only get worse next year and so on. They don't want to commit to an inflated long term deal that will bar us from signing our prospects in the future

Plenty of GM's make big gutsy moves, only to have it majorly bite them in the rear. Milbury, Holmgren, Snow etc. He plays a conservative close to the vest style.
